Religion and Star Trek

Didn't he have a miniseries earlier this year?
The Infinity Entity, but (according to the Marvel Comic Database) that isn't the prime universe Warlock, but rather Adam Warlock from Earth-14209.

I'm sure he'll pop up again when Jim Starlin gets the urge to play with him again.
He did appear in Starlins Graphic Novels, but before that his last apperance was in the Annihilators limited series (2011).

I agree that Star Trek has been rather inconsistent about depicting Earth religions, usually avoiding the subject entirely. It's probably difficult to write about religion in a sci-fi setting without upsetting someone. But I like Babylon 5's approach to it. They didn't avoid the question, but rather acted like it was just there all along, not making a big deal out of it. There was that one scene with Sinclair introducing Delenn to a long line of representatives of many of Earth's religions, Ivanova's ties to Judaism was addressed a couple of times, and then there was Brother's Theo's group of monks on the station. But they did address a couple of times how alien contact has influenced some of how they have evolved their faith.

It would be so awesome to have a scene with an non humanoid Christian priest or something like that.

Also have a group of humans dedicated to following the teachings of Surak.

Wasn't there one at grandma Howard funeral in sub Rosa?

...and this.

I don't think Jesus is mentioned once in any ST show or movie. Imagine if The Enterprise had been a churchship on a mission of conversion. They would have been told to go home by every species they encountered.

He's mentioned in Bread and Circuses.
SPOCK: I wish we could have examined that belief of his more closely. It seems illogical for a sun worshiper to develop a philosophy of total brotherhood. Sun worship is usually a primitive superstition religion.
UHURA: I'm afraid you have it all wrong, Mister Spock, all of you. I've been monitoring some of their old-style radio waves, the empire spokesman trying to ridicule their religion. But he couldn't. Don't you understand? It's not the sun up in the sky. It's the Son of God.
KIRK: Caesar and Christ. They had them both. And the word is spreading only now.

I seem to remember Dr Phlox saying at some point that he had visited a Catholic mass at St. Petersburg? Presumably their must still be Catholics around in the Enterprise Era.

Now, having the crew encounter a missionary ship would be interesting.
We hear so little about civilian ships in Star Trek. It’s possible that there may have been a missionary ship or a faith inspired humanitarian vessel at some point separate to Starfleet. I would bet The Salvation Army had one and called it the 'USS William Booth' and that YWAM had a fleet of medical ships :)

In the TOS episode The Conscience Of The King there is mention of "relief ships," responding to the food disaster. it wouldn't be hard to imagine those being Salvation Army or (interstellar?) Red Cross chartered ships.
