The Stealth Borg ... are cool...!!! As is the welcome news of your Muse returning to you, HIjol. I've just poured myself an excellent aperitif, as dinner makes itself ready, and am reviewing my own handwork, in this thread. There's no denying it ...

Seriously, I've read many a thorough thread about the TMP uniforms in my day, and I was thinking, "How is it that this guy never came up?"

Departure

Departure is a word, that is often, sadly, heard
It's usual meaning?, "leaving" - at least here in this part of the world
But also, meaning "take one's leave", of that is what I speak
The layers of the "leaving", new horizons I will seek

There is so much to do, Adieu...
So many people, places, things...
Experience and venue
My "Changeling" nature rings

But "leaving" means "arriving" in another place and time
Through 9 or 10 new Time Zones, yes, but soon a different life
Time spent here has been fruitful, and so many things they "mime"
But 14th meeting 21st C. can still be toil and strife

Not only my "Departure" (from here a certain thing)
Returning to my "home" presents a word called "anxiously"
My purpose here was Duty. Care. The mantra that I sing
The reasons had to do with things Financial Responsibility

What made its presence known to me as I acclimatized
A revelation of my "self", unknown in my previous life
I found a home and "self' here, that I've come to truly prize
I think Transition back to home will be more than just a trifle

I hope Homecoming brings a joy and happiness to me
I want a smooth Transition with a path of Harmony
I "pray" that I will see the me I know that I can be
But they have lived their loves and lives and dreams Successfully

An adage in my mind regarding people and the seasons
Some words describing how and why we meet and interact
A reference to the nature of relationships and reasons
Implied, imbedded meaning, message? There's no "going back"

However, Back I Go, and, as the Doc was fond to say
I truly am departing "past" to travel to the "future"
My Triple 7 "DeLorean" will spirit me away
To what Past or the Future? That I cannot say

Carrousel? The Island? I think no, not be my fate
Reinsertion, Reacquaint, Refer and Realize
My love and need to "do the thing" is what I need to sate
The Best That I Can Do is how I think to summarize

For Her

I see your pulse pulsating in that place along your throat
My pulse? It also rises and my head begins to float
Your beauty and intelligence entrances me beyond
Ability to speak, but still I try, yet You confound

Your Silk, infusing skin, your hair, your shoulders and your mind
Beguiles, bewitches, brings me passion, intellect, So Fine
But form and frame do also capture visions of a melding
My hope is verbal "speaking" sure, but other kinds of "jelling"

I crave the whole of you, all that you bring - with all you are
My passion burns in head and heart, like kindling for a fire
My hope is that you see me as an equal and a friend
But also as "Fulfiller" - your desires served; no end

And so, my Pearl, my Angel, and my Love and Lust, you see
I want you madly, crave-ly, we tumesce, then share between
Devotion and Emotion carried deep inside of We
Explains all that We are and all We try and aim to Be.

How to follow up such an epic poem? I'm sure other would-be contributors will ask. So, allow me to take some of the pressure off by making the next entry, myself. This one revolves around the unusual episode: Unforgettable (VOY). Featuring Kellin, the most beautiful, the most exciting (in short, the most worthy) woman that Chakotay ever got involved with ...

When your world is crashing inside out
And there's nothing for you but fear and doubt
You've painted yourself in some corner, or another
You can still paint yourself out with a whole other colour
The Greats seem so inaccessible & out of normal reach
But this is only a perception! They have much to teach
The Master, Leonardo da Vinci had many obstacles in Life
His wealthy father knocked up a peasant who wasn't his wife
Nine Months later, Leonardo is born ... born a bastard child
In a day when being illegitimate meant you were defiled

Doors were closed to you and success seemed very unlikely
But The Master used his father's connections, in society
To have his talents recognised and he forged his life ahead
Though we think of Leo as wealthy, he was often broke, instead
He would paint when he had a cash-flow problem, it seems
But being an engineer, entertainer and inventor were his dream
The King of France marveled at the genius of da Vinci's work
Allowing The Master to retire as a member of his royal court
Patience, persistence and ability are the key to any lock
So, follow his example and let yourself think outside the box

My words cascade and tumble out
So much Inside, there is no doubt
At times my function slows my form
I write and type too slow; mind storm

Often I sit in quiet amazement
Writing in ink - no erase-ment
The thoughts just seem to compose themselves
As if there was me and somebody else

But, no, there is only one thought scribe
Me alone with rhyme and gybe
Be it Poet or Writer or Wanna be Muse
In a Wordsmith Battle with nothing to lose

Meaning and Reason don't change with the Season
Budding and Growing and Harvest and Freezing
Through it all I nod and smile
Knowing someone will pause and read, for a while

An Artist whom I deeply admire is Diego Rivera
His wife was another famous Artist named Frida
Who loved him so, with an all-consuming passion
Films about famous Artists are always in fashion
At least, for me. So, I purchased 'Frida,' on DVD
Salma Hayek stars, but a tango singer stole her scene
She was so beautiful, singing passionately for the dance
Didn't know her but had to find out, when I got the chance
She was a Real Life Mexican singer who never acted, before
She even lent her vocal talents to the motion picture's score
This woman's name is Lila Downs. She's charming & eloquent
The songs are fine, but what I love is what she brings to them
Raw passion and energy. I listen to her often, when I paint
Have been for several years, now and I think she's just great!
What's this to do with STAR TREK? That's a very good question
Ashley Judd played Tina Modotti in it - my TNG connection

Salma Hayak is a very good actress, and also witty and lovely!
I will search for music by Lika Downs, and listen for myself.

~~A Poem d'Artiste, for Frakes~~

My "Picture Painted" is my Words
The Bon Mot and the Bad
My Canvas is the World I'm In
Experience I have had

My Brush can be a keyboard,
A Touchpad or a Pen
My Palette? Crafted Meanings...
From What I Can't, and Can

My Mind's Eye sees "Expressions"
Of all the Things I've Learned
The Longings for the Reasons
The Lines and Songs Unheard

I make the Strokes to fashion
Word-Pictures, Rhyme and Meter
I mix the Colored Language
And 'Paint In" what I Feature

My Easel placement varies
The "Backing", wrapped and curled
Attached to points along it
Word-Richness full Unfurled

Selecting for Word-Gallery
The Images I think "worthy"
The showing of my "Artwork"
Is free!, and there's no Hurry

When Others "see" my "pictures"
I hope that they will see
An Artiste with the Language
A Special Part of Me

Whilst you reveal your poetic truths from their matrix of rhyme with a hammer and chisel, HIjol, I go into mine with a pick axe and sledgehammer! I'm much better at writing song lyrics, believe it, or not. Saying of which, I hope you'll give Lila Downs a listen. Be aware that her music has an ethnic texture, or flavor, so her lyrics are in Spanish. But she's apparently a very passionate woman and whether you understand her, or not, you still get that. She does speak English quite fluently and has a very beautiful speaking voice. Lila's an older woman, now ... Time has galloped on a bit since Frida hit the Silver Screen. But she still projects that sense of beauty from when her rose was in bloom. As does Salma Hayak, of course ...

HIjol Dovetails Off Of 'Frakes

Take a look ahead
But don't forget to look back
Opportunity Awaits
But Perspective? Don't lack!

Fixing Mistakes is Key
Avoiding them, Desired
Turning it All Around?
Most would say is Required

Regrets have Many Songs
"Regrets, I have a few..."
Successes are much better
That much is True

We Learn from what we do
Or not, in many cases
Success and Failure's guises
Have oh, so many Faces.

HIjol! When I wrote "Take a Look Ahead," it was with the ulterior motive of showing a would-be contributor that a STAR TREK poem can, indeed, be short .. and ... sweet! So, I'm quite amused that you expanded, extended and added to the basic concept. Obviously, I'd brought up a STAR TREKKIAN theme that needed something far more substantial than a passing glance. Thank you, for picking up the gauntlet, sir. Nicely done!
The following poem I wrote the same time as the one about Kellin ... its "sister" piece, if you will. But I shelved it, because it needed a title ... and I was buffaloed! Upon reading your last entry, it hit me, with your "face" line, what to, finally, call it. Face to Face, of course, being the song that Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle dance to in Batman Returns.

Tim Burton's Bruce Wayne didn't talk much. But, with my offerings, character goes out the window. And who knows? Maybe the Spirit moved him, or some shit - right? Feeling His Oats, perhaps? A sip too much of that Schuylkill Punch!
You be the judge ...

'Frakes, although I can manage brevity, it is not my strong suit. I only meant to pay homage to one of your many pointed and clear Poetic Messages! I am truly gratified to inspire you to a Title for the excellent message you created, and the stunning images - black and white made all the difference!

Plus, I kinda liked MK's interpretation of Batman. And, I always like your interpretations of the meanings and musings you create!

Small favour is greatly received! You know what I like most about the Ballroom Scene in Batman Returns? Up until that scene, the movie treated Selina Kyle like shit, for the most part. Out of necessity, true, but all concerned seemed interested in atoning for this by showing her some love with this sequence. And she's ready! She's all for that.

When Bruce finally sees her at the top of the stairs, looking impossibly beautiful, she's instantly put upon her pedestal. At which point, she starts descending, like an Angel visiting the Earth from Heaven, above. No acting required from Keaton ... jaw hits the floor and the whole bit. Then, Bruce starts being all sweet to her and paying her mind and stuff. And only when Selina's assured that there's plenty more where that came from, does Catwoman even dare to peek out, like, "hey ... I'll take me some of that."

And though Bruce first notices Selina on the stairs, her being there couldn't have been happenstance. It's all so calculated, on her part, it's wonderful. Like she knew what effect she'd have on him and positioned herself, there, for just that purpose. I love everything about this sequence, the interest that went into it and how gorgeous it was shot. And seeing Selina getting the star treatment was very sweet. If I ever live out my fantasy of directing an "Independent" motion picture of my own devising, having such examples to follow will most certainly inform the project.

"Crimson & Clover" by Broken Bells, inspired me to subject you all to, yet, another poem. Obviously, this refers to an Irish redhead. And TNG has one, too. I'm sure you'll agree, this song really is quite good ...
