IDW has done the same thing in their comics.Awesome. Weird that they used TNG-era shuttles, though...
They need to either scoot the nacelles or the pylons forward. That is a huge gap between them and the saucer.
Looking at the Enterprise schematic, they have something called the "Kelvin pod" attached to the bridge. Exactly what is that supposed to be?

Maybe the Kelvin bridge didn't have escape pods. So the update was named after the lost ship.
My guess: There will be no bloody A. Not in this film anyway. This would leave a lot of opportunities for next film to be set off-ship. AKA Voyage Home.
I do think we need a separate thread to discuss the changes to the JJprise. I think these changes are unlike anything we have seen in Trek i.e they are NOT supposed to be noticed by the lay person. How do we explain the smaller nacelles and swept back pylons? Was there a refit? If so, what was its purpose? We have to come up with an explanation quick or the universe will explode.![]()
If it was in cooperation with Bad Robot, than it's official. That's kind of the definition of "official."Is this an official diagram, by the way? It says it was produced exclusively for Popular Mechanics, in cooperation with Bad Robot (duh, otherwise it's copyright infringement).
But the reason George Kirk stayed on the bridge is because the auto-pilot was disabled. When the auto-pilot is disabled, someone does have to stay on the bridge and the presence of an escape pod won't make a difference one way or the other. That seems to be exactly the idea behind it - so no one has to stay on the bridge and 'go down with the ship' like poor George Kirk did.
1) There realistically shouldn't be a new ship so soon. Will feel cheated if they aren't on a new ship heading out to finish the 5 year mission at the end

2) The impression I got from the trailer is that the five year mission is over and that's why they're back at Earth. Or so I interpret McCoy's question of "you sure you want to go back out there?" The five year mission is done, what we see in this movie is something else.
Complaining about a lack of spoilers is 01 of the things I've been noted for for the past 08 years.Let's not complain about a lack of spoilers!
The trailers have shown Kirk on a motorcycle. Now we know it's something he got from the Franklin.Has anyone spotted this yet? The cut-out of the Franklin includes a "Motorcycle" label. Is this tongue-in-cheek or a spoiler?
