What are your favourite fun movies?

I'm not quite sure why, but certain movies remain fun even though you have already seen them. You already know the jokes. Perhaps because they still evoke a mood?
This is true of my favorite movies. Take Clue, for instance. When it was first released, they had a clever marketing idea: Make multiple endings, but don't show them all at once. If you wanted to see all the endings, you had to see the movie at least 3 times, at different theatres. I didn't get to see the third ending until the VHS release, because we only had two theatres in town!

Over 30 years later, I still love this movie. I loved the board game, and have found a whole section of fanfiction.net where people have written stories about it (some are quite good).

I had to take a time out from Marx Bros. movies for awhile, because I knew all Groucho's lines and monologues by heart. But enough time has passed that I can enjoy them again.

Yeah, Timewalker, the DVD includes all three endings, as I recall. I remember playing the board game during childhood-I thought it was kind of fun that a movie was based on it. I didn't know that there was Clue fan fiction.

You should try to find the novel that was based on the movie. There's a fourth ending in that one, along with all the others.

My grandmother loved this movie (I think we both had a bit of a crush on Wadsworth!). The first time we saw it was when Superchannel (an old all-movie channel here in Canada, back in the days before movie channels were ordinary) offered a free weekend, and Clue was one of the ones we watched. Later on I bought the VHS, and my grandmother promptly invited her friends over to see it.

Of course I've upgraded to the DVD now. :)

I think that one thing that many of the movies listed have in common...is that they were intended to be fun.

Which seems to be unacceptable to critics.

BTW, a long time ago I noticed that those reviewing movies seemed to despise anything that I enjoyed. So I started to ignore the reviews.

I totally ignore critics because that's what they are paid to do. Be critics.

Why people can't pick a movie to enjoy without someone else telling them what they should enjoy baffles me. Movie critic is such a useless job title.

Chilly Dogs, another fun movie.

I think that movies that are intended to be fun can continue to evoke a mood-one of fun. Even if you have already seen them before.

I tend to rewatch movies when I'm tired and winding down before going to bed. Some movies, such as Clue, I prefer to watch at night.

Yep. There are a few reviewers that I respect in that regard. Roger Ebert, bless him. He saw movies as they were intended. If they weren't good he'd say it, and if they were good he'd say it. And if they were meant to be seen as fun, he'd like it as well. Same goes with Gene Siskel and Richard Roeper.

Ditto. With a new movie you might be tempted to stay up too late just to see how it ends. But with THE CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON or whatever you can just watch until your eyes start drooping and call it quits since you already know what happens next . . . .

To name just a few:

Star Wars OT
The first eight Star Trek movies
SpaceCamp
All three versions of The Time Machine
Independence Day
Corvette Summer
Batman 1966 and 1989 versions
The Chris Reeve Superman films except for III
The Indiana Jones movies except Temple of Doom
Time After Time
Journey to the Far Side of the Sun

Yeah, I think at this point a movie can the visual counterpart to comfort food.

There's 3 versions? I have the 1959 version and the 2002 version, which is the third version?

JTTFSOTS Now that's one crazy movie..... Thinking about it too much gives me headaches but I love it too.

One thing about Gerry Anderson as this was one of his productions, he really does love his long drawn out mechanical sequences. They're interesting to watch but boy do some of them take so long. It's like a mechanical ballet,

There's a made for TV version from 1978 starring John Beck as Neil Perry (the time Traveler), Three's Company's Priscilla Barnes as Weena, and Whit Bissel (from the 1960 original) in the Filby role (Filby's not in this version) as Perry's boss and friend. It's never been relased on DVD or Blue ray as far as I can tell, but I taped it off the air in 1989 and put the tape on a DVD-R around 2006 or so.

Great choices so far.

I always enjoy Conan the Barbarian when it's on and even its inferior Saturday morning sequel is fun in its way. Really any old school Schwarzenegger flick is fun like Predator and Terminators but also the gonzo flicks like Commando, Total Recall, and The Running Man.

I have a soft spot for "Hercules in New York" and "The Villain."

For the general category of "fun" movies, I will throw in the "Flint" movies with James Coburn, and the "Matt Helm" movies with Dean Martin.

What's Amazon Women On The Moon about?

Catchy title but hmmm.

I find that with a lot of those older B-movies, the title is pretty self-explanatory.

I liked "The Villain" too, but here they marketed it as Cactus Jack:)

The Last StarFighter is fun.

I'm not sure if it's fun, but I really enjoy Soldier with Kurt Russel.
Actually, he's in a lot I like, Escape from New York, The Thing, Big Trouble in Little China, Captain Ron.

And another one I have fun watching but not might not be a fun movie is Dredd with Karl Urban.
I guess it's a flaw in my character, but when Sgt. Todd or Judge Dredd rips through those guys, well I have a lot of fun watching it. Predator and Commando, too!

Beetlejuce! Beetlejuce! Beetlejuce!

I love all the ones you mentioned here too. And yes Beetlejuice. That's so fun..

I also love Little Shop Of Horros and though I haven't seen it that many times I know all the songs.

Win! I love this movie.
I don't know why anyone would watch it with only one of the endings. For me, it's perfect that all three are included ("But here's what really happened!").

The adventures of Baron Munchausen
Hell yeah! Actually, I don't watch this one often because I don't want to wear out its appeal.

I don't have access to my movie collection at the moment, but I will claim a couple by the underrated Paul Anderson:

Resident Evil
The Three Musketeers (steampunk version)

I'll also recommend the little-known horror film Horror Express. Starring Cushing & Lee, it's a heap of fun, with some laugh-out-loud lines and great creepy moments. (Plus it's set on a train!)
