James Bond movies have been a mixed bag for some time now. Far too many rely on action/spy film cliches and references to previous and better (Moore and Connery era) entries in the series. Perhaps 6 Bonds and 24 adventures are enough?

Bond is timeless.
Nope...still so many "Art Imitates Life" stories to tell, however fictionalized. Also, there is still Big Interest in James, and the escapism and enjoyment of watching his adventures still ranks high with people! maybe Retirement for 007 some day, but it is not this day...or decade!
You could say the same about Star Trek or Star Wars films.
Sometimes, due to whatever circumstances, you get a film in a franchise that either doesn't live up to its predecessor, the hype that surrounds it, or your own expectations. Such is life. Focus on the good and live a happier life for it.

Too subjective.
Moore ? Even his best (For Your Eyes Only) isn't as good as the recent films. Speaking of which, Casino Royale is probably the best Bond film ever - right up there with From Russia With Love. Craig's films have steadily declined in quality yet Skyfall is his big success.
Whether the next Bond is Hiddleston, Turner, Hardy (my choice) or someone else, it'll be someone's favourite. And someone's worst.

A big fat NO! The Bond movies have been going strong for over 50 years. Only a few in my opinion are bad but I'd say 20 out of 24 are amazing films and that's quite a feat. I've been a Bond fan since GoldenEye which was my first Bond film and since then my love of the franchise has been strong. I've been happy with all of Pierce Brosnan's Bond films with the exceptions of Die Another Day and I've been more than happy with Daniel Craig's Bond films. The Bond series has always been an unpredictable animal, always reinventing itself with the changing of the main actor playing Bond. As long as the Bond films remain fun, entertaining and profitable why shouldn't they keep making them? It provides a lot of people like me an escape from reality for a few hours. I don't want the series to stop I want to see where it goes for the next 50 years.
I've noticed that a lot of people find Bond and his ways to be antiquated so in that sense I can see the character fizzling out. On the other hand, he has been able to make some incremental changes that allow him to keep up with or ahead of the times, as mentioned, and the movies are more profitable than ever so we'll see.
On Room 101 the other night, Warwick Davis suggested that he be cast as a 003½ sidekick who helps Bond out of tricky situations. Victoria Coren Mitchell wanted to put Bond into Room 101 because he's a terrible spy.

I'm firmly of the opinion that Ian Fleming's template for Bond should be the basis for the cinematic Bond, albeit updated slightly.
Having said that, I'd love to see some more '00' agents and more diversity. I can't see any reason not to have black or asian agents or female operatives. Just because Bond's a bit of a dinosaur...

I'd really like to see Bond done as a period piece set in the times of the novels (won't happen though). The moment re-casting was introduced with On Her Majesty's Secret Service, any "need" for Bond to "retire" ended. Like any franchise, there are variations in quality but there are also opportunities for reinvention. So I fully expect and want to see James Bond in another adventure.
There's a basic appetite for spies and there is a basic appetite for space adventure. And if interest in any of these genres was to fall through the floor (which won't happen) Bond, Star Trek, Star Wars will still be the last fortresses standing. These franchises are at the core of their respective genres.
Umm, the Bond film series pretty much created the majority of the 'spy film cliches' they've used over the past 50+ years. That said, I find the current crop far more palatable then the last few films of the Roger Moore run - which I all saw first run in the theatre (I'm old).
If they feel they have a story to tell, by all means I think they should keep going, but yeah, the end of the 'cold war' era, pretty much closed a lot of story avenues.
