I thoroughly enjoyed most of Golden's Voyager books. I felt the ones which take place during the series and the Homecoming/Farther Shore duology were quite good. In my opinion it was really only the Spirit Walk duology that wasn't up to her usual standard. It was a total misstep after some pretty solid work.

The worst thing is I've loved Golden's writing in the past (her Ravenloft fiction back in the day was great, and I even got to interview her via email in college!), but what I've heard about her VOY fiction was just...maybe I didn't want to tarnish my impressions of someone I've enjoyed reading before.

I liked the Christie Golden books just fine, it's just that in comparison they just weren't as good as Kirsten's run of books. I agree with @20fridge. The Spirit Walk duology was the mis-step, but the Homecoming/Farther Shore story was decent.

Sorry, I was referring specifically to the relaunch books. I should have been more clear.

It was an OK book but not as good as I remembered. It's impressive that David has written a lot of good TNG books despite his generally irreverent style and his specific preference for the original series over TNG, kind of disliking the latter, but both attitudes felt a little too blatant in this one (Winnie the Pooh ). Revisiting the "Yesterday's Enterprise" timeline felt like it didn't have much point to it.

Despite the "TOS vs. TNG" name of that column, David spends most of it talking specifically about Generations rather than TNG as a whole. And I think that most people would agree that GEN was a pretty disappointing movie overall.

And again, just because something is not your favorite does not mean that you dislike it. It just means that there's something else that you like more.
