Original UK Comics

I've been enjoying reading IDW's collection Star Trek: The Classic UK Comics vol. 1. The stories are delightfully bizarre and they clearly don't fit into the continuity of TOS, let alone the novelverse or the other main series drawing from TOS (like DC Comics's series). Has any author ever referenced, even just in an Easter egg sort of way, anything from these UK comics, like the names of any planets or species? I think it would be hilarious if an author had Kirk just once exclaim "Bursting Novas!" or "Suffering Starships!"

"Suffering Starships!"

Sounds more like Scotty! Saints and heavens preserve us. None o your heathern gibberish.

I'm not aware of any references back to the UK comics, but there has been one nod back to an issue of the Gold Key comics, which are from the same era and just as zany. An SCE ebook referenced a location from the fourth issue, though in a kinda roundabout way.

Also John Byrne did an issue of his photocomic series in the style of those 1960s comics.

Would I be right in thinking these started to run in the UK before anyone here had seen Star Trek? I seem to remember that being used in an argument for the BBC having the broadcast rights and planning to run it earlier than they did but for some reason delaying it.

The comics started to appear in Joe 90: Top Secret in January 1969, six months before the show debuted in the UK (in Doctor Who's time slot during the hiatus between the final Patrick Troughton season and the first Jon Pertwee season).
