CBS Marketing would love it. CBS Payroll would not.
Ok, I saw him in a bunch of the behind-the-scenes stuff for Almost Human, but must have hallucinated he also directed.

I'm sure they'd love to get Abrams to direct it, if only for name value. Lin isn't as recognised, but Beyond might change that. But I imagine money and scheduling will make it difficult to get either of them. My understanding is that in the TV industry there are a few people regarded as top pilot directors; none of us would recognise their names, of course, but probably one of them will get the job.
I would bet on Kurtzman directing. As the Executive Producer (and I assume the writer of the pilot) he would probably want to establish his vision for the series right at the beginning.
What about Bryan Singer? He's directed a few TV episodes before, and is a big Trek fan. If the pilot is the only episode that'll be shown on the network, then it should target both demographics of hardcore Trekkies and casual fans or newcomers to the series. I think Singer is a perfect option for that, with his ability to make both thought-provoking films and blockbuster action movies.

With the way they're gathering old Trek talent, I wouldn't be surprised to see Jonathan Frakes direct a couple of episodes.

Or maybe Roxann Dawson? She's quite the veteran TV director this days.
Since Star Trek 6 25 years ago, he has directed exactly 1 thing: a TV movie in 1999. I would say he prefers writing.
I do wonder if any of the Trek alumni will be back to direct episodes, after all there were quite a few who've sat in that particular big chair.

With all due respect to Frakes though, based on the films I've seen that he's directed I'd pass on that.
I've seen a fair number of TV stuff that she's done and think she'd be a good pick.

Based on the TV eps I've seen (Agents of Shield, Burn Notice), I think he has grown into a pretty effective director.
I'll take your word for it regarding those shows as in fairness I've never seen ''Burn Notice'' and I gave up on ''Agents of Shield'' after the first season and a bit.
