Likelihood of automation? It's quite unlikely (1%)
Yay, I think. There are actually two different sides to my job, one of which could sort of be automated in small ways. The other part I don't see being automated at all.
I don't see my job being automated any time soon and in fact more of us are being hired as a result of increased technology. Our unit used to hire a higher percentage of administrative positions to deal with the day-to-day tasks, but as the time to do those tasks has been cut considerably, we now hire many more people with high-level analytical skills to deal with the unusual cases and unforeseen side effects of technology. I also work in an industry where change from the higher-ups is a constant. A new person comes in and wants to uproot the system to do it their way. As soon as we update our systems to accommodate this, someone else comes in and wants it another way. So, I guess as long as we have people and their egos making decisions, my job will certainly stick around.
And I just don't see how a machine can take over the analytical portion of my job that deals with those special cases. These require a great deal of research and a judgment call.

But a UBI means I could stop doing work I don't love and start doing work I do. I take your point, but it;s about education. Current education breeds factory or cannon fodder.

Mall powers down security robots after one bumps into toddler.
A mall in Silicon Valley this week suspended its security robots after a collision involving one of them resulted in a toddler getting a bruised leg — a reversal from children harassing robots at the mall.
The accident could reignite fears about evil robots that many robot makers have tried to overcome with cute designs.
The robot company, Knightscope Inc., designed its 300-pound K5 machine to protect against malicious humans. Children usually present the greatest risk to robots’ ability to get their jobs done, previous incidents showed.
Knightscope called the incident a “freakish accident” and issued a formal apology to the family.
“Our primary mission is to serve the public’s overall safety, and we take any circumstance that would compromise that mission very seriously,” said William Santana Li, Knightscope’s chief executive.
The Stanford Shopping Center in Palo Alto, Calif., said it is investigating the incident, and has docked its robots until the investigation is complete.
Last week, 16-month-old Harwin Cheng was walking in front of his parents outside an Armani Exchange store at the mall when his mother pointed out a K5 coming their way. The toddler didn’t seem to notice the robot, and he bumped into it and fell forward. His mother, Tiffany Teng, says the robot ran over his foot.

As I work plain clothes, tracking, deterring and arresting pickpockets, bogus police officers, watch robbers and ATM thieves. I'm not convinced he would blend in all that well.
