Let's just assume that directors who can make it to Hollywood can probably direct multiple genre projects, and like actors should not be pigeonholed. Lin directed independent movies as well as big blockbusters, so he's a good man to be on this.

BTW, I've never watched more than a minute or two of a F&TF movie..always planned on watching one.

I know. My opinion about F&F isn't a dig at Lin or Beyond.
But still very "ridiculous" on its own.
No one was going to mistake it for a well grounded documentary back then either. "I Dream of Jeannie" probably had more "realism" and relevance to the Apollo program

Well of course seeing one movie by itself would not give you the full context of how the characters have developed over time or the massive continuity that has been built up between the films.
In fact, the revenge plot for the seventh film is capped off by an event which happened in the third film, but which was chronologically retconned in-universe —without any major continuity errors beyond people being slightly older and plumper looking— into not taking place until the start of the seventh film, and now was depicted as a deliberate assassination rather than just an unfortunate accident. Michelle Rodriguez's character is still suffering the after effects of something that happened to her in the fourth film and has been slowly developing ever since with a hint dropped in a post-credits scene in the fifth film and then fully explored in the sixth and resolved in the seventh film.
I'm not sure why it would be wrong to introduce more casting diversity "just for the sake of it," but regardless, that doesn't apply to the F&F franchise, since as I mentioned, the growing number of family and friends and partners Diesel and Walker's characters work with were drawn from all the previous films rather than just showing up randomly, with the exception of Kurt Russell's character, who was new.
The best way to find a genie is to join the Astronaut program.
I like Michelle Rodriguez. That's a plus.
I've noticed around here that massive continuity is a negative, so it's a strange comment in the context of what appears to be the prevailing thought about the Abramsverse versus Prime. Granted, Star Trek has a few more decades on F&F.

It would only be a strange comment if my opinion represented the sum total of what "around here" thought and I was speaking for all of them instead of just myself. I don't mind a deep continuity, especially when it's done well. I also don't mind the idea of a reboot if and when said continuity does get ponderous after decades. As long as it's interesting and enjoyable storytelling, I'm easy like Sunday morning.
That picture was taken during a screening of the Trek documentary "The Captains" on the flight deck of the USS Intrepid - now a floating museum docked at Pier 86 in Manhattan on the Hudson River. They have a regular movie night there during the summer months.

Furious 7 was the first of that series that I saw. I enjoyed it and will see the rest in the near future. It's a shame what happened to Paul Walker. I've seen several of his other movies and felt that he did a very good job in every case. He is one who would have been serious competition for Chris Pine in the role of Kirk.
I started with Fast 5 and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Massive continuity is fine as long as it doesn't handcuff the story or get flatly ignored. If it comes down to continuity and a good story, then I tend to lean towards a good story.
Also, what's the prevailing thought about Abramsverse? I have more enjoyment from Abramsverse because I know Prime continuity.
I haven't seen the first three for years. 1 introduces the core characters. 2 and 3 are good (I recall) but don't have much to do with the larger continuity. Lin started on the franchise with 3, but 4 is the stronger film. 6 is the weakest IMO: just too many characters, and some action bits that were too long and over the top. I haven't seen 7.
I can recommend the 6th one in the series, which grossed over $700m.
The vibe I got at the end of the film from the ensemble cast was one that I hope Lin can replicate for STB.
Every cast member had a task or a job to do, everyone needed everyone else in order for the team to succeed.
Hate to be that guy, but the first thing I noticed was the flipped insignia on Sulu's uniform. Other than that I like his poster best. He looks less plastic.
