At the London 2014 one, me and my mate got the bridge and transporter pictures and I got my picture with Robert Picardo. We listened to the free talk about Klingon make-up by Suzi Plakson and the one by Levarr Burton.

Other than that, we basically just walked around over and over for the whole day. Oh and obviously we got some pictures with varioius hot dressed up Trek girls (and numbers).

As I said before though, the best thing about it was that it was in London so we made a weekend of it. Birmingham just doesn't give you that.

I read it on one of the many DSTL reddit threads a couple of days after the event, along with all the other rumours about what supposedly went on there ie the sort of stuff you'll never get to read on any website run by Joiner and his Stasi clowns.

Never has a forum been as heavily edited :(

Is it worth trying to track down? Sounds pretty harsh for the TrekBBS favourite :/

The event 2014 event was supposedly a little better organised for free talks, but aside from Nick Meyer, I don't think any of the bigger guests did any, so it's up to you whether, looking at the guest list for DSTE, you think any of the lesser guests will have anything to say that you want to pay £29 to hear. And given Showmasters' well known appalling sound system, you probably won't hear much at all, especially as the talk stages will almost certainly be held in the main area where everyone else is milling around.

I didn't find main casts of TNG/DS9/VOY "lesser guests" and enjoyed their talks very much. Not much problem with sound system either, heard everything fine, even though once I had to stand by the seats, as there were none free left.

If you didn't enjoy that con, that's fine. But don't say no one did.

As for the upcoming one... I won't call it a disaster before actually expriencing it.

That's my experience as well. In contrast to Admiral Bear, I prefer main cast guests to obscure bit parts so I'm quite happy with the 2016 lineup as it stands even though Shatner and one of two of the others I've met before. I'm not sure what ABs issue is with Showmasters but it seems to run pretty deep - I usually enjoy their events. And the organisation and logistics have generally improved over time.
Personally, I'm looking forward to DST this year, and won't be going in expecting disappointment!

Having doubts that Walter Koenig's actually been booked for this. The event isn't listed on his website appearance calendar, and the convention appearance calendar for all the clients of his booking agent doesn't show any trace of Koenig attending DSTE, although George Takei is listed. Plus, Walter's been asked on Facebook to confirm his attendance, but he's said nothing.

That wouldn't surprise me. Joiner has been known to announce people without having any confirmation of them being there.

A few years back I was chatting away to Robert Llewellyn on twitter about Car Pool and asked if he'd be doing one when he was at Collectormania Glasgow. Turned out that was the first h'd heard about it - and thats a minor incident compared to some bigger names that were announced despite not even being in the country.

I'm sur ein a lot of cases he makes an enquiry and then assumes all will be fine.

Tell me something I don't know!

One day, I'm going to do a version of Madonna's Vogue using the names of every single actor Joiner's announced without a contract. Hell, I don't even care if it doesn't scan or rhyme properly. It's never been so obvious that he's having massive trouble across the board getting actors to do his events. From what I've been told, booking agents think he's a scumbag and don't want to deal with him.

I've never thought much of Bryan Cooney at MCM either, but at least people in the industry seem happy to work with him, and he's started getting the big guests in again and semi reasonable prices, if only for one day.

Edit: This morning, Joiner's cancelled Bolton Film & Comic Con. Lock, stock and barrel. Lack of ticket sales apparently. I can't wait for DSTE to be cancelled around the start of September.

Walter's booking agent has confirmed to me via FB that Walter is due to attend DSTE, but that Walter was booked through a different agent. Must get very confusing if you have more than one person making bookings for you.

Roll up, roll up for the money extortion show. £125 to sit in the front row to watch Shatner peform "Shatner's World" at DSTE. :barf:

Aside from that, the Enterprise Blues Band *yawn* have been announced to do the Friday and Saturday night entertainment. For the uninitiated, that's Casey Biggs, Vaughn Armstrong, and Max Grodenchik.

No sign of any worthwhile bigger guests.

As main cast members from all five Trek series aren't 'big' enough for you, who is it you keep referring to?

Well, since those who aren't in the loop keep bombarding the DSTE facebook page asking where Patrick, Kate, Avery, and Scott are, I'll ask the same question! There's nothing more rewarding than seeing the intellectually incontinent who've already thrown hundreds, if not thousands, of ££££ at this event based on the initial guest list, asking for guests who it's already been extensively noted are busy elsewhere, or who've been pissed off by Joiner to the extent they'll no longer go near his events.

As long as Frakes turns up this time...i'm happy

You got more chance of Hell freezing over with all of Satan's minions emerging from Dante's Inferno wearing ice skates and performing Ravel's Balero.

Frakes has already cancelled the SF Ball and Fedcon this year. There's next to no chance of him turning up to DSTE, especially since October is TV shooting season, and TBH, no one expects him to show up. He might as well not even be on the already very uninspiring guest list. Seriously, even Fedcon managed to sign up Alice Eve for 30 Euro a signature the other week. What do British fans get served up by Joiner? Eddie Paskey and the bloke in the Gorn suit.

I don't understand why he signs up to these events then cancels them???? And let's be honest...what is he doing these days? what has he been in lately??? I asked Marina Sirtis where he was at the last con and her response was that he is Directing...directing what? Thunderbirds 2?
