I think perhaps that the lawsuit has been dropped with the proviso that he doesn't make his film. I'm only guessing.

Like I say, till CBS/Para confirm this I ain't buyin any

Denial isn't just a river in Egypt. It's also a river on Frocus III

Perhaps that's where Guinan got this stuff then......

If the settlement negotiation falls through, it's entirely possible that this all goes back to where it was earlier this week. It isn't time to start counting chickens.
You're just trying to make me feel better, aren't you?

@Indysolo said ":It was as irresponsible for JJ to say anything last night as it's been for Alec to say anything once the lawsuit started. And fans aren't being sued. One person is being sued."
I agree, and that's one thing that bothered me since this came out. Why would he be tasked to make the announcement. He's a director and producer, not the plaintiff.

So this thread won't break the magic page 1000 ;-)
For all we know CBS / Para might take a page from Lucasfilm / Disney and only allow 5 min fan films.
It'll all be AP's fault if that is the final outcome.

Historically they've been very accommodating toward fan films, so maybe the guidelines will mainly relate to how they handle the money. All idle speculation at this point, of course...

Well, I've enjoyed immensely all the humor at LFIM's expense. I see no reason for it to end. Everyone knows that AP can't keep his big mouth shut. I predict many more months (if not years) of Internet fun.

No more lawsuit? Bah! Humbug, I say! Let the flaying continue!

Play by the rules, respect CBS/Paramount's wishes and some guy comes along, uses Star Trek's IP to raise $1.3 million dollars to build a studio. So C/P is going to pass out guidelines to whom, the Studios that already respects C/P's IP. I'm not sure the exact message this is going to send to fan films.

After so publicly denouncing this project, it seems that C/P will lose some credibility if they try to go after someone for some other violation of another of their IP's , won't it? I'm talking in public eyes, not legally

I think I may have made this point when the announcement first came out, but I was half asleep, so I don't remember

Let's hope this doesn't remain a classic case of Ruining It For Everybody.

Nah, getting sued is still a nightmare. They'll have made their point.

When we hit page 1000 we should throw a party. We can still guess what the guidelines MIGHT be. I agree w/ some, a limit / cap on how much $ you can raise for your fan film, what you can do, what you can't do, etc etc etc, if the guidelines are like anything that was tossed around awhile back, namely the "unofficial" guidelines + a few new ones to keep folks from trying to do what AP has done, thing is AP isn't in the clear by far, CBS / Para will do something about him, and he won't like the outcome.

While you can be quite certain that AP will be crowing like a rooster over his "famous victory" the real story will only be told when the settlement goes public. I suspect some of the terms will fall under a confidentiality agreement, but if there are concrete guidelines laid out, I also suspect that they will make few, if any of us, making fan productions of any kind very happy.
