Spoilers STAR TREK BEYOND

For comparison's sake, here's the JJPrise vs. two shots from the trailer.

They definitely look swept back.

Very good trailer and definitely getting FAR more positive reaction than the first one. The new warp bubble effect I think is probably the best warp effect I've seen in a very long time, possibly, ever, in Star Trek.

AS soon as I saw the warp bubble effect I thought of the warp graphic in Star Trek: The Secrets of the Universe

Now what does Krall's line about counting on Kirk being merciless mean? Is he setting a trap or does he want Kirk to prove his views on the Federation?

The funny thing is, it looks like they reversed the direction of the nacelle pylon, with the straight front edge and the bump at the connect point now facing aft and the curved trailing edge now facing forward.

I did like the second trailer more than the first. The makeup for Idris Elba looks a bit too restrictive though. Hopefully it won't mar his performance.

Yeah, I wish they would have given him a bit more expressiveness. Seems kind of a waste of Idris Elba's abilities to be locked in a largely unmoving mask. Maybe it's just those shots and he can move it more in others.

Interesting, looks like the swarm concept is used to cripple large ships and capture any escape pods from them. But they want a sizable catch, the Franklin looks like it's too small for their tactic to work.

Well, that was all a hell of a lot better than that Beastie Boys crapola. Space battle scenes all look utterly derivative, but there look to be some nice quiet character moments in there a la TWOK between Kirk and McCoy.

And Pine appears to have visibly aged enough in the last 7 years for him to look similar to Shatner in TOS ie he actually looks old enough to be Captain.

I realise I'll be in a minority of one here, but I think that warp bubble effect, while likely being a technically correct visualisation, looks shite. Looks like something a 5 year old did on Windows Paintbrush.

Maybe the incident with the Swarm convinces Starfleet that their ships are too big so they design the next Enterprise to be smaller, closer in size to the prime universe ships? Could be an interesting way to rationalize the size differences between JJ trek and prime trek.

Nah, they'll just develop a burst wave weapon that disables large amounts of the Swarm, assuming the race survives this movie and the Federation doesn't just hunt them down.

The new Enterprise is going to resemble the current one, or at least be the same size.

I cannot wait for July. The star base looks incredible, the planet looks incredible. I hope They didn't yank the Beastie Boys out of that scene based on the reaction. That part is icing on my cake! I couldn't sleep last night after viewing the new trailer 8 times.
