CBS/Paramount sues to stop Axanar

We're now a bit closer to the point where Team Axanar has to deliver on what they've been promising and after the pages and pages of bluster, self-promotion and doing down of just about everything else Star Trek what they end up producing had better live up to their own hype or....
Well they've basically promised it will be the best Star Trek story ever so I don't see how they can ever live up to that.

Yes, and it's a dreadful feeling.
Embrace it. Let's imagine CBS say "F**k it, make what you want, you're boring us". The 'huge Axanar fanbase' will now expect their 'best Star Trek movie ever since forever. Ever' and just how the hell is he supposed to deliver that with next to no cash and a DVD extras director?

Coming so quickly on the heels of the judge's denial of the motion to dismiss makes me think that P/CBS know they have the upper hands and are in a strong position to dictate terms.

Given the way Disney has neutered fan films and given the future risk of tentpole invaders to all IP of entertainment firms, and given how ultimately ruthless corporate control tends to be, it would not surprise me one bit if the terms are onerous. And if they are going to slam something like that down, sugar-coating it is conceivable.

But the fanbase probably doesn't expect that anymore. They probably expect a defiant showing of the flag of their project in any Trek garb at all and a chance to feel vindicated. The more pewpew the more emotional catharsis for Axanar marines everywhere.

If only there weren't a million of those all over the world just waiting for a studio to let this turn into a crack in the wall...

Very curious about these fan film guidelines. Alec Peters is $38,000+ richer entirely because of CBS and Paramount's Star Trek name and imagery. If it's okay for him to leech off of their brand, it'll be okay for others too.

I wonder if the rules and regulations will be akin to what the Star Wars fanfilmakers have to adhere to?

I hope the Axanar faithful enjoy their five minute movie. Gary Graham will have to get his lines out a damn site quicker then he did in That Vulcan Scene, that's for sure. And presuming they use the same VFX the ships are going to be zipping about pretty sharpish too.

Remember such rules would also effect shows like Star Trek: Continues and Star Trek: New Voyages which are known for their TOS style length episodes (50-ish minutes long). So don't wish so poorly just because of Axanar.
