Here's a theory.
Maybe the images are deliberate references to the other shows' openings.
A plain star field - TOS
The solar system - TNG
Icy/misty chunks -DS9
Zooming through a star's corona - VOY
They do appear in that order.

They could do something like Star Trek: New Voyages. Yeah that is a book series but could work for a TV series too.
I think that would confuse too many people.
Love the trailer! The effects are kinda wonkey and the font is weird (I'd guess it's temporary anyway), but it's the trailer for the new Star Trek series, damnit! How cool is that!?

I can't stop smiling!...New villains not New aliens. New Crews doesn't mean it won't be a federation ship, just that it won't be old characters. So New Villains could mean new Klingons we haven't seen before.
For that matter, it doesn't say New Ships, so maybe it's a ship we've seen?

ST17 works if it's just Star Trek.
My first thought was to wonder if they lifted it wholesale from Star Trek Online? The graphics and music kinda had that feel.
Marketing is synergistic. Teasers will reinforce both. But they don't want the final product directly competing in the market space. (The 6 months probably also allows home media sales of ST Beyond to capitalize on new show interest, and vice versus.)
Remember these?
New villains? Yes. That doesn't mean only new villains, I would imagine.
Gah Facebook is full of people hating on there being new villains as if all the old ones are going to be erased!
