Challenge for all atheists

So I became, and still am, a licensed, ordained minister who can legally marry people in the states of Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky.
That's awesome. If I lived in the States and found someone to marry I'd totally want you to officiate the wedding. It would have to involve ponies, though. :D

Incest is a sin in the Bible, so doesn't that mean we are all born from sin hence it is who we are? How could such a deep stain ever be washed away when it is the reason for our being? Won't that tarnish all of us throughout time as an original sin that can never be cleansed?
Welcome to Catholicism! ;)

(The Original Sin there is something different, but close enough...)

^ I found a woman to officiate my "atheist" wedding and she did a great job. I think we found her at a wedding show or some such. And hubby's crazy-ass Expert-Level-psycho-Moromon sister was thoroughly appalled that hubby and I didn't have a "proper" ceremony....which made me love it even more!

Of course, being an atheist in Texas is hard just in general, so finding someone--anyone- to perform a religion-free wedding was a challenge but we got very lucky in hiring that woman. She was awesome.

Firstly, I would be happy to do so, and secondly, I would expect no less! :D

As Scotty would say, are you daft? Marrying between relatives in the early biblical days was okay. Able was not a sister. He was a brother. The only reason it's not marrying close relatives isn't legal anymore is because of two many genetic impurities or whatever the word is that results in unhealthy offspring. They didn't have anyone else to have a relationship with at first, so they had to marry someone.
God bless, Jason Irelan
You sure of that?
The Bible said:
And now you are cursed from the ground, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother's blood from your hand. When you work the ground, it shall no longer yield to you its strength. You shall be a fugitive and a wanderer on the earth.” Cain said to the LORD, “My punishment is greater than I can bear. Behold, you have driven me today away from the ground, and from your face I shall be hidden. I shall be a fugitive and a wanderer on the earth, and whoever finds me will kill me.” Then the LORD said to him, “Not so! If anyone kills Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold.” And the LORD put a mark on Cain, lest any who found him should attack him. Then Cain went away from the presence of the LORD and settled in the land of Nod, east of Eden. Cain knew his wife, and she conceived and bore Enoch. When he built a city, he called the name of the city after the name of his son, Enoch.
Kind of jumps from his banishment to having a wife and a having a kid. No mention of her being his sister. And who's going to find him and attack him? He's in the land of Nod, everybody else is back near Eden. Major plot holes.

JJ Abrams screws everything up!

My faith module overloaded.

Well, there's your problem... you let Kirk near it!

Do you think Kirk would have eaten the Apple?
Wait, he did!!!...well, at least nuKirk did...right on the Bridge! Could the bridge and computer system be considered the future "Tree of Knowledge"?

No need...I thought what Kirk was eating in TWoK was some exotic fruit from the Genesis Cave!

NuKirk's apple eating was an homage to oldKirk's apple eating scene. Both scenes involved talking/taking the Kobayashi Maru.

My wife and I were Christian non-denominational ministers for a while. We even met on a Christian dating site.

After much deep research, thought, and meditation, we left it behind because we came to the following conclusions:

* Thousands of years ago, humans couldn't accurately grasp the concept of how children came into the world. Out of that ignorance came a religion that cast females as the superior and males as the inferior. Over time, males rebelled against their status and turned the tables by establishing patriarchal-based religion.

* God was created in the human image, not the other way around. Humans have the capacity to be very nasty, so they projected their own negative aspects onto a deity. Some humans can be much more loving and compassionate than the wrathful god of the bible.

* As described, Adam and Eve were created without the mental tools necessary for deep thought but then they were blamed for it. Blindly obey, without question. That's the Christian way. Utter manipulative nonsense.

* Job was basically a victim of God and Satan getting together and making bets on how much misery it would take to be lumped onto his shoulders before Job would renounce God. What the bible describes God doing to Job and his family is cruel, sadistic, and monstrous. The whole thing is a monumental steaming pile.

There are things out there that we don't yet understand that are labeled as 'supernatural'. There is growing research that points in the direction of the likelihood of the existence of other planes of existence that might overlap with this one in some ways at times.

But a great father-overseer responsible for everything that we see around us? No. Unfortunately, a lot of people don't do their homework and don't realize that what they have put their faith in is just another cult, albeit a much larger one.

Sure and of course people can do what they like. It's just when someone sets themselves up as a leader it would be nice if they had social work training, psychology training, the sort of people training that non-church groups require of leaders as well as having a period of time when you're apprenticed to an experienced person whose done all that for years. The idea that you can send away for a card on the internet as a teenager and say you are now a minister is.. well I don't even know how to address that. I can send away for a card or a magic ring to be a superhero and that doesn't make me a superhero.
As long as we're on these sensitive topics, I'd just like to throw in that it might be nice if politicians who lead whole nations, states, provinces, etc. were required to have some kind of training in leadership... and politics.

All I can do is live my life to the best of my abilities. If there is a God? I hope he judges me fairly, because I've lived a more "Christian" life than most Christians I know. If I get sent to Hell? Hopefully, I get some nice beachfront property on the Lake of Fire.
You can stay at my place. I keep the fridge stocked, and there's a jacuzzi out back, on the patio.
