The Alternative Factor

I feel similarly, in as much as both often stimulate lively debate!

I never believed that Lazarus was a time traveller either.

His being a time traveler explains why the Lazaruses are still around, long after the population and civilization of their planet(s) is gone.

They didn't say an y contact at all between universes would destroy them. It was just contact between identical "particles".

Many of these objections to AF seem to come of impatience, not hanging in there long enough to figure out what they were going for. Some are valid, but shouldn't matter that much.

Lazarus avoided death due to examining communication satellites! But does the mass deaths mean that everyone came through at the same time and met each other or was it just the one man meeting himself that caused the destruction?

Bad pizza is bad. Bad Star Trek is bad. You couldn't get me to watch this turd, or "Plato's Stepchildren", or a half dozen others.

We only have the unhinged Lazarus's word that his counterpart caused the mass deaths. Maybe the unhinged Lazarus caused their deaths in trying to get his counterpart and thus in his bent mind concludes it's the fault of his counterpart.

"You should have let me kill you! It's your fault!"

Indeed, that there were mass deaths may be mere lunacy, or more like another deliberate lie to justify the madman's quest in terms Kirk would accept.

When Kirk finally has a chance to chat with the sane Lazarus, there is no indication that either "mass deaths" or "time travel" would relate to the situation. According to the sane Lazarus, the quality of monstrosity is in the eye of the beholder, applicable to both the men - it sounds as if neither Lazarus has actually killed anybody yet, but that both could be held responsible for the deaths of everybody everywhere ultimately.

If there weren't mass deaths, where is everybody? If no time travel, why are they still alive after their civilization has been gone so long it's hard to find any trace of it? If you want to say that only crazy Lazarus said it was their planet (I can't quite remember), why are they even there?

The time travel was needed to explain their presence so long after their civilization disappeared. That's been clear with every viewing of mine since my first one in 1967. A lot of these things are fan-created problems.

Maybe that spaceship looking thing that the Lazari have is; ya know, a spaceship?

The abandoned planet need not be their own

Didn't Spock state the planet had undergone a cataclysmic event thousands of years before though?

Not that I'd have heard...

OTOH, the mad Lazarus did speak of a "chase across the universe", suggesting he was nowhere near its starting point when found. Yet according to a later interrogation scene, Lazarus gave Kirk some actual information on this starting point, but Kirk soon found there was no planet there and never had been. Do two lies make a truth of some sort?

Was there a chase across time, perhaps, with the living civilization left somewhere in the past or in the future? Was there a chase "across universes", a tedious one where the Lazari flipped from universe to universe for a million years, never quite catching the other? How would that work, and would it tie to the claim that their struggle at the end of the episode would be "eternal", suggesting the Lazari were immortal?

One thing I wonder about Laz's little Scooty Puff Jr. doesn't have a door? How does it contain it's atmosphere, or does Lazarus's dinosaurian constitution mean he can hold his breath a long time?
