Spoilers STAR TREK BEYOND

I always saw the Dominion war as the Federation's fault. They encroached on others territory then refused to go away when told to.

Eh, it was the Cardassians and Romulans that decided to wipe out their homeworld without the Federations knowledge, then refused to own up, allowing the Dominion to wage war on them in particular and take the brunt of their clusterfuck.

Maybe? But we never see the Federation go "my bad" when they violated their territory. Even Kirk understood that sometimes people don't want someone they don't know in their backyard.

You can't just secretly call dibs on a quarter of the galaxy, including territory you're not physically holding and societies and planets you're not interacting with, and then enforce that territoriality retroactively, wiping out established colonies and outposts with little or no warning and destroying Federation ships. Whatever mistakes the Federation might have made, the Dominion was an evil, conquering, racist, genocidal empire that was completely in the wrong for its actions.

The Dominion was evil. But that doesn't excuse the Federation's poor handling of the situation. Like driving into their (claimed) territory twice with battleships (Odyssey, Defiant). If they make a claim, then you work on negotiations. You don't send in battleships. That's liable to piss off the most stable of people.

By the 24th century, and after the massacre on Cestus III, the Federation should have a better handle on how to operate.

You'd have to reduce evil to some basic, universal truth to define the Dominion as evil. It seems they thought the same of the Federation. The universe is impartial except, apparently, to a left-handed spin of particle decay.

The Dominion genetically engineered a couple of slave races to serve them. Not sure how that isn't evil. By our definition of evil.

It's like both sides of a war believe God is on their side. I think It is fed up with the lot of them.

Judging another race by our own standards? I don't think that works out well.

In the promotional picture, it looks like Pine is being prepped for a pretty intense scene. Commander's chair of the Franklin, maybe?

I don't think it is spoilage, only a rumor, but in the mists of my mind, I remember Orci's story supposedly had something to do with the possibility of restoring the timeline to pre-Nero. Some Vulcans were apparently willing to attempt it, and I guess the story went from there. Again, this may have been just a rumor, but I do remember reading it, and it does tie into the other two movies by brining in the timeline.

Yeah, pretty big. China is picking up some of the PRODUCTION budget, making any risk less risky. I think we will see China easily push STB into the $500 million range.

I'm a bit more optimistic. I reckon STB will easily reach $600m.

We'll have a better idea once the 2nd trailer and behind the scenes stuff come out on May 20th.
