"Star Trek - Federation Rising, a sequel to Horizon, will begin crowdfunding on Saturday, April 23rd at 12:00am EST. The countdown begins: http://federationrising.com/

You asked, and we've decided to answer. The absolutely wonderful responses we've received (and the sheer number of them!) since releasing Horizon nearly two months ago have convinced us to create a sequel.

Federation Rising is a two hour Star Trek fan film that continues the story of the NX-04 Discovery, and her crew, that began in "Star Trek - Horizon", a fan film set in the Enterprise era. In the midst of a dark war with the Romulan Empire, the new Coalition of Planets is working to find peace and stabilize the quadrant. The Empire, desperate to stop the Coalition, is busy building the largest invasion fleet in history. With the Coalition depending on Earth’s Starfleet for guidance and direction, Captain Hawke, the crew of Discovery, and Enterprise must find a way to even the odds and ensure the future of the The United Federation of Planets."

Horizon was a perfect follow up to Enterprise and highly acclaimed. Now for the next chapter - this comes as a surprise as Tommy said there wouldn't be another one, however I am curious to see what they do

It doesn't say, but I assume they won't be using Kickstarter. Good to know further fan efforts are still starting up.

Hey, all

I came here to post and let you all know that we're going to crowdfunding a sequel via Kickstarter...and it looks like you all got ahead of me! How cool is that? The support you all give to my projects is so encouraging. This is a preview image from our Horizon facebook page.

I thought Horizon was a great achievement. Not sure I have any real interest in another episode.

Interesting to here Tommy is planning a follow up. Perhaps Indiegogo is the way to go with the funding, so you would have what you raised if original target not met?

Looking forward to seeing what story you tell, Tommy.

EDIT: changed ser to seeing!

Pleased to hear a sequel is planned as Horizon was an exceptional fan film. Not completely convinced on the wisdom of another Kickstarter project while the outcome of Axagate remains unknown, but good luck all the same.

What I saw of Horizon was quite good, I just hope he doesn't get caught up in the fervor and let mission creep take over.

Thanks for the interest and well-wishes, everyone! Just to answer a few questions...

I chose Kickstarter again for the sequel because I knew if I went with Indiegogo and made only half of what I was looking for I'd be in a really bad position. I think Indiegogo is great for when you need to raise some extra cash but don't necessarily have a minimum amount. If we were to raise less than what we need it would be pretty hard to make the movie, so it's all or nothing.

With that said, I do feel like we'll go out on a high note with the sequel. I learned so much doing Horizon, so I'm taking everything I learned on that one and putting it towards making a sequel that's at least nine times bigger and better. It's actually funny, to me at least, that I can see when watching Horizon my skill level progressing over the course of the film. I have that film under my belt now and feel like I'm ready to move to the next level.

I won't be be retroactively coming up with a series name for these because I plan on this movie to be the final one. I feel like a third movie at this point wouldn't make sense, based on the story we're setting up in this one. That said, I also had no plans to do a second movie, so who knows what could happen.

I'm just dropping in to say that I was very impressed with the result of this team's efforts. Horizon was a solid piece of fan work. I'm sorry you won't get to tell the story you wanted to, but I look forward to seeing what you can do when freed from the constraints of playing on the Star Trek playground. All the best to you!

Edit to add: Also, FWIW, I appreciate the classy way you're handling this disappointment.
