Spoilers STAR TREK BEYOND

Yup, basically in line with everything JL has said so far in broad terms.

JL also said the principals of the Federation will be tested.
I think something happened in the past, something bad happened because of Federation or perhaps he honestly thinks Federation is guilty.

Poor Kirk. Though, I must say, when this version of the Enterprise is at Red Alert, you certainly know it.
You can develop film while running for your life. :)

I think Krall doesn't agree with the Central Government perspectives pro-Federation. He believes Central Government is going along the wrong path.
I think Krall is opposed to non-interference. "Stop shoving your non-interference down my throat!"

In a way it would be like the Walmartization or gentrification of the galaxy

:guffaw:

A while back during the First Iraq Nonsense, we were fanta-strategizing as to how to "solve the problem" in the Middle East, and it was decided that if we (The US) used our Transports and Heavy-Lift choppers to air-deliver pre-fab WalMart stores, and "carpet bomb" the country (Iraq) with these stores, sit back for a couple of 6 months or so, and let the Gloriousness of Capitalism and Low Prices® nestle, our problems would be solved.

It was a thought, anyway...

I don´t know why Jaylah is helping Kirk. I don´t think she is pro-Federation. I think she has some kind of settling of scores with Krall.

Or maybe it's more of a "We begged for help and you did NOTHING!"
Well yeah, but eyeresist's quote was funnier from a certain point of view. Besides, Krall's line in the trailer sounds more like he doesn't want them there. So there'd be no help wanted.

All these theories about the bad guy being some sort of anti-globalist are great, but the fan theories are usually 10 times more complicated than what is actually in the movie.

The Federation probably doesn't look at the consequences of even indirect results of it's actions on neighbors outside it's sphere of influence. I could see some unintended issues that species might have against them

The UFP might seem imperialistic to some, or even just ignorantly expansionist with a sort of manifest destiny.

It is true that in TOS, the UFP required Kirk to set up a treaty port, and they didn't care HOW he got it. There were other times that Kirk conflicted with Starfleet orders.

The conflict in this movie could be very interesting if it's not handled superficially.

The Federation can be very pompous and self-righteous (especially in Captain Picard's time). While pluralistic, it still tends to believe its values are the best, or at least most sensible. While preaching sovereignty and rights, it forgets that it really means agreeing to its ideas of sovereignty and rights, especially individuality. Opposition to this probably seems like an anathema to the Federation. The point was made by Azetbur in STVI when she said, "'Human' rights. Why, the very name is racist. The Federation is no more than a 'homo sapiens only' club."
It also reminds me of a quote from Hawkeye Pierce in "M*A*S*H" where he responds sarcastically to Frank Burns about the war: "I just don't know why they are shooting at us. All we want to do is bring them democracy and white bread, transplant the American Dream: freedom, achievement, hyperacidity, affluence, flatulence, technology, tension, the inalienable right to an early coronary while plotting to stab your boss in the back."

I always saw the Dominion war as the Federation's fault. They encroached on others territory then refused to go away when told to.
