Spoilers STAR TREK BEYOND

Speaking of specials does anyone remember that huge special they did years ago for some Trek anniversary and some of the guests seemed like they didn't really want to be there? I remember the clip with Patrick Stewart and he came across as feeling rather awkward and such.

They did have a really nice musical act with Kenny G and a montage of ST ships of various series and models in various scenes. Just the whole thing sticks in my mind because of how awkward it felt..

Haven't seen that. Was that a TNG 25th event? I think that, unlike some of the other TNG cast, Stewart is not comfortable speaking spontaneously in front of an audience.

Yeah it was a TNG / TOS thing... He spoke well but he just didn't come across as being at all comfortable, or that he wanted to be there. That is just how it all came across to me.

That was for the 30th Anniversary.

So I can assume that we will have the past and present of Star Trek in this fan event. The guests could be people who have worked in the franchise. Exhibition of old and new material.
I wonder if the surprise could would be Shatner, although they have forgotten him since Abrams is on board the franchise. And Orci, will he be there?

I don't think this will be a convention as such, just a panel and a screening.

You are right. I was thinking about Shatner, but his presence could be an embarrassment.

All good. Have clarified my post by adding 'Axanar'.

This is an event aimed at winning the fans over, kicking off the PR campaign for STB in a serious way, and keeping STB in the 24/7 media cycle for the next 2 months until it is released.

Getting the grassroots fan base excited for STB will be a good start. JL will get a chance to show his Trek credentials. :techman:

The push will obviously start on May 20th, and ramp up from there, with hopes of a healthy opening weekend in North America.

I'm keen to see what the official production budget is, see what the final product will be like and of course, compare it to the two earlier JJ films.

Any dedications to LN in STB will make me bawl my eyes out I suspect :wah:

I don't know. I get the feeling I will grin, cry and laugh. Anyway, it's late in Oz and time for bed.

If I recall correctly, Stewart *wasn't* there. He did a video message from London. It was hammed up, but didn't come off as uncomfortable (at least to me).

I had a post about the ST specials in the general Forum. I basically concluded all the specials were useless except the first 2. The 30th was terrible. I'd much rather have a new show and a movie over a dedicated special any day.

Honestly, Paramount isn't aiming at a fraction of a percentage of fans. Axanar is barely a blip to them in reference to Beyond.
