In Trek's case, it's being licensed by CBS to Paramount to make the movies.

That is incorrect. Paramount owns the movie rights. We've been over this. Paramount would not have standing to sue for copyright infringement if it was only a licensee.

The prop collectors are a tiny fraction of fans, as it is an expensive hobby - especially Trek props. Alec is still able to put out well attended auctions, but even before the Axanar debacle Propworx went bankrupt so it's not clear if it is a viable business model. It may be kept alive purely by the discounted rent it's getting in the werehouse.
I guess I should clarify - I don't know if HIS business model is viable.I'm under the impression that Peters is not exactly the best at managing money, so I woudn't necessarily count PropWorx's financial shenanigans as a bellwether for the market.
EDIT: Jerry Goldsmith's score for TMP 'turgid'...![]()

A conversation with Doe-vid Gerrold by Alec Peters?
David Gerrold described the score to TMP as both "brilliant" and "turgid".Seriously? Really? Which one of those pityfucks said that?

I was mesmerised by Peters' brown slip-ons. Now THAT'S Hollywood.I like how Gerrold's shirt opens up at the end of the interview and we see his belly.
They say lawyers make the worst clients. I guess that especially includes lawyers by training. A little training is a dangerous thing.I haven't watched the video yet, but I'm thinking I don't really need to be in a hurry.
From what I've read here about the conversation, it just tells me that Lord Axahat is not listening to his pro bono legal team's advice* to STFU. Surely, he must be thinking, his training as an attorney makes him a much better judge of appropriate behavior than those who work for him.
*If W&S have not advised AP & Co-conspirators to STFU, in my opinion they must be incompetent or just trying to lose.
They relly like to bite the hands that feeds them, don't they?!?David Gerrold described the score to TMP as both "brilliant" and "turgid".

I could be way off on this, but I seem to recall a quote from Alec somewhere saying that the original business model for Propworx was to deal directly and exclusively (or nearly so) with the studios to handle their prop auctions. On its surface it doesn't sound like a bad idea. Among other benefits, there's no question of authenticity since all of the props are directly from and certified by the studios themselves. However, what Alec discovered the hard way was that there just aren't enough studios with enough items to sell on a regular enough basis to sustain an ongoing auction business, and Propworx eventually went bankrupt in 2012 allegedly owing MGM among others hundreds of thousands of dollars.
What does not seem to be clear is the business model for the new Propworx entity that was incorporated in California last year and that he is running today. Is it a more traditional version of an auction house now consigning items from private sellers etc.? Is it online only? I don't know.
Yeah Alec did.
J.J. Abrams is a Star Wars fan and because of this he claims that Episode VII is a fan film. The only problem with this 'belief' is that fan films are made by fans out of an appreciation of a particular franchise not by the source's copyright holders or original creators.
All kidding aside, what you say above, Red, is along the lines of what I have been thinking for a while now...the "goading" part. I try to figure out people's motivations and thinking, in situations such as this, and perhaps,Imam looking for logic and reason in a place bereft of both???
I think he's still arrogant & deluded enough to think he can come out of this clean (which would jive with the delaying tactics his counsel seems to be taking) - he's also got his facade to maintain, the one that keeps his acolytes so fiercely loyal (and keeps the money flowing). DG seems to have a touch of arrogance about him as well.
Others though that are wisely keeping quiet, or have jumped ship altogether know better (RMB seems torn at times between keeping his head down and his loyalty to Lord Alec + the project he's spent so much time on)
