FOX: Sleepy Hollow - Season Discussion

Didn't Ichabod call her Lizzie or something? I think I remember being surprised he was calling her something other than Betsy.
Considering that "Betsy" is just a nickname for Elizabeth (and that Betsy Ross's name was Elizabeth Ross), I'm not sure why there's any confusion there.

I know that Betsy and Lizzie are both short for Elizabeth, so my surprised wasn't because I didn't understand why he would call her Lizzie, it was just that I hadn't heard anyone call her anything but Betsy before that.

Ohh, they did not just write Nicole Beharie out of this show, did they? How can they break up the team? That's just wrong. She's such an incredible actress, such a compelling presence, and part of such a great double act with Tom Mison. The show would be rather pointless without her. But then, I gather the show's future is in limbo; it's neither been renewed nor cancelled yet. If the alternative is Crane without Abbie, then I say let the show die.

It's also really harsh on Jenny to kill off the two people she's closest to in consecutive weeks. That just seems gratuitous.

The best part was seeing (and hearing) Clancy Brown again. If this is the end, at least they brought things full circle, with Corben and the Horseman.

And what a relief that Betsy Ross's role was brief, and that she wasn't brought to the present. At least that means that if the show does return, she probably wouldn't be part of it anymore (although I don't know if I'd watch anyway without Beharie).

It would've been more impressive, though, if Pandora had done more to assert her dominion over the world than just putting on a scary light show in a church.

Oh, man. This felt just like the latest episode of Arrow. :( Why are they killing off strong female leads? Why?!? :wah: If this was indeed the series finale, then I can understand the sense of finality in the episode, but they also left the ending open to a possibility of a renewal.

This particular episode hits close to home. My coworker and close friend of 14 years, Ms. W, is retiring. In fact, her last working day was Thursday. She has been such a great friend and a second mother to me, and although I'm happy for her, the selfish part of me is terribly going to miss seeing her every day. :( Abbie's words to Ichabod resonated with me when she said, "This isn't goodbye; it's more like 'until we meet again.'" :weep:

Interesting, so Betsy Ross went back to her original timeline in the 18th century after spending some time in the catacombs. Does this mean she went and saw the "other" Ichabod, with whom she discontinued her friendship? This would make sense, since she was never reported to be missing in the eyes of the people of her era (or at the very least, she might have vanished for months). It further explained why the sudden change in her attitude toward Crane from that period. The time variance between the catacombs and the outside world would also be consistent with Abbie's experience. (The outside world travels at a much slower pace.)

This sucks. Not a good week for some of my favorite female characters. Ugh...it's hard to imagine Sleepy Hollow without Abbie. If these sources are to be believed it looks like Nicole Beharie wanted out. They don't say why. Whatever the reasons for the death of Abby it just plain sucks.

Sources tell THR that Beharie had been unhappy and was actively trying to exit the series for quite some time. The character, sources say, was originally supposed to be killed off during the midseason finale but insiders are said to have gotten cold feet.

I haven't seen it yet, but I'm definitely not looking forward to that. If Abbie is really gone, then I hope the show just gets cancelled. The main reason-- sometimes the only reason-- that I watch is to see Abbie and Ichabod's relationship. Same as Gryffindorian, this will hit close to home, since they remind me so much of myself and someone I knew a long time ago.

That episode gave me such a headache. Were the writers all "I'm bored. Okay, let's just have Betsy magically return to her own time because, you know, why not it makes total sense. Done. Now, let's get this Hidden One crap over with already despite building him up all season long. Done. Okay, let's build up Pandora and make it seem epic but really just kill her off in ten minutes after a light show at a church shows how she's taking over the world and thus is super scary and uber powerful or whatever, cause why not. Done. Now let's just kill Abby while we're at it for Reasons. Done. Now let's make Ichabod the head of the Men in Black as decreed by George Washing however many years ago, but they wait until now to make that known, because G.W. totally knew when that exact moment would be. Done. Okay, job well done; I'm outta here, bitches!"

That's a shame. They shouldn't even bother to renew the show without her.

Well, I was only five minutes into the finale when I went onto Yahoo! which prominently said in a front page headline, SLEEPY HOLLOW KILLS OFF MAIN CHARACTER. :brickwall::brickwall::brickwall:

The same thing happened to my mom with TV Guide on Facebook.

Wow, it was so nice of them to drop major spoilers for Arrow, Empire, Vikings, and The Americans without warning. I'm behind on Arrow and Vikings and was not aware of those spoilers until now. I had known about what happened on Arrow and was being very careful to avoid finding out who it happened to.

Ok, the episode pissed me off. Abbie's death was a huge shock, I had no idea that was even being considered.
I was a little disappointed that they sent Betsy off to her own time, I really thought she was going to be coming to the present with Abbie and Ichabod. Now that Abbie is gone it could have been a fun to do a role reversal, and have Crane teaching Betsy about the present day. It also would have at least made our new lead a familiar character, instead of a new character coming out of nowhere.
After all the build up with The Hidden One, the final confrontation with his was disappointly brief. The same goes for Pandora, but at least it was cool to see Headless again.
The stuff with Abbie was a nice farewell, but it is going to be really weird to have the show without her if it does continue. So much of the show revolved around her and Ichabod that I kind of have to wonder why they are even continue without her. They've had a hard time keeping up the quality with her and Tom Mison, so I do kind of wonder how good it'll be without her. I'm not going to totally write off the show, since shows' have gone through major changes like this and still managed to hold my interest. I was hoping that maybe the stuff about her soul/Witnessness moving onto someone else meant that Abbie had a doppelganger out there somewhere, and Beharie would be coming back, but apparently that is not the case.
The set up at the end with this secret organization is interesting, but it is a little weird that they would take so long to sudden reveal themselves. If they had been aware of Ichabod coming to the present since Washington's time, you would have thought they would have kept a close eye out for him and appeared as soon as he woke up. I am curious how Abbie and Jenny's dad ended up with the letter. Is it going to tun out him and Corben were part of this group, or at least involved somehow?

I really can't stand how spoilers just immediately get everywhere. How many people actually watch a tv show live anymore? f I watch it within 24 hours that's a rare thing. And not everybody sees the movie on opening weekend. Yahoo! front page is the worst offender of this. I dread checking my mail on the opening weekend of a major movie I haven't seen yet.

As for the SH finale, it was alright. Certainly more interesting than anything else this season.

That could've worked if they'd actually hired a capable and interesting actress to play Betsy. Nikki Reed is quite lovely to look at in repose, but the moment she starts talking, she becomes very unappealing, with a dull delivery and a mildly abrasive personality. It would be a horrible letdown to go from the compelling, powerful, gifted (and even lovelier) Nicole Beharie to such an unlikeable, untalented replacement. Not to mention going from a terrifically diverse cast to one centered on two white leads.

The news that Beharie was originally going to leave in midseason until they got cold feet explains a lot. When the show came back from break and Sophie suddenly learned about the supernatural and stepped in as a substitute partner for Crane, I wondered if maybe that meant Abbie wouldn't be returning. And once Abbie did return, Sophie felt like a fifth wheel, and it was unclear why the show needed her. I'd imagine the original intention was that she would be the new female lead, but once the decision to drop Abbie was reversed (or at least postponed), Sophie was sidelined as a result.

After all the build up with The Hidden One, the final confrontation with his was disappointly brief.

It makes sense, though, since Peter Mensah was never more than a guest star and Shannyn Sossamon was a regular. Pandora was the real big bad of the season, so it's fitting that it came back to her at the end. Still, given that, it would've worked better if they'd defeated The Hidden One sooner and given Pandora's arc a bigger climax.

I hadn't realised it was the season final or had watched the episode before coming to thread so things were bit of a suprise and now I'm not sure whether to watch it or not.

But definitely agree that if Nicole Beharie is gone permanently (any interviews with her on the subject?) then Sleepy Hollow should be cancelled.

Agent Mills was the Scully to Crane's Mulder. It just hard to imagine the series going forward without Beharie. JD, I agree. Why did the feds wait til the last minute to pick up Crane? Is there going to be some kind of Bureau of Extranormal Affairs? The whole premise was just an afterthought.

Twice in one week I read the discussion thread before seeing the episode. (This and "The Americans") And in both cases a major character bites the big one. Oh, well, at least I saw the Canary's "swan song" unspoilered.

Others have already let those cats out of their respective bags.
So? If you're going to complain (no matter how passively) about spoilers ruining things for you, it's sort of a dick move to spoil stuff in the same breath.
