If you had watched the trailer correctly, you would have seen the LucasFilm logos at the beginning and end as well as Disney insignia somewhere. The question about if this was an official movie or nto is stupid given that the very first place to show it was the official Star Wars website followed by Good Morning America... Kind of think a fanfilm wouldn't be able to do that

I don't think I said anything about it being a fan film. Like I was just saying to @The Wormhole, this feels different (in a good way) than all the other Star Wars movies.

Even my 90yo grandmother who doesn't know much about SW knew there was a sort of "spin off" movie... I'm sorry, but there is no way that even the most casual fan would not have known in this day and age

Exactly. My sister really enjoys the movies but isn't a scifi nerd and doesn't keep up on all the latest SW news like I do, so was naturally a bit confused about who all these new characters were and why it didn't seem to be continuing on from the last movie. And some of my coworkers today were just as perplexed.

Disney definitely needs to do a better job explaining what these standalone movies are, I think. Simply putting "A Star Wars Story" in the title doesn't really do enough.

Yes because fakes NEVER use the Lucasfilm/Disney logos when they release a trailer.........I believe all you had to do was say "Yes it is" to answer the question. You could have included a link to be helpful. A lot of people don't spend 24/7 on the latest sci-fi news. @tomalak301 was just asking a question.

I don't know, I don't think it's any more complicated than figuring out which Marvel movies belong to the MCU and which don't and are part of their own thing.

Although, there are people I know in RL who I just know in December are going to be asking "this isn't a sequel to TFA? Why aren't they doing a sequel to TFA?"

It really says a lot about how great the designs for the Original Trilogy were that they can use them in a big blockbuster movie in 2016, and they still look as good as they did in 1977. There are a lot of movies and TV shows where that is not the case.

Showed my family the trailer. My wife and 15 yo son are excited, 12 yo daughter seemed kinda "meh", but my 7 yo son's reaction was "A fourth Death Star?!?" Apparently he lumped Starkiller base in with the others, and it wasn't clear from the trailer what the timeframe here was, so I had to explain. But otherwise, he's excited.

A fake wouldn't look this good and have Felicity Jones, Forest Whitaker and Donnie Yen in footage that wasn't ripped from some movies that already existed.

So far the only Star Wars TV project was the live-action series talked about before George Lucas made the sale to Disney. Rogue One isn't that but I suspect there may be a SW Netflix series or something of the like before the end of the decade; depends on how the new trilogy goes, I suppose.

I just watched IGN's trailer breakdown and they mentioned a few bits of info I hadn't heard before. They said they believe Diego Luna's character is named Casian Wilux or Wilex, something like that. The black armored troopers are Death Squad troopers, and the droid we see several times is an enforcer droid. They pointed out that if you look during the scene of Jyn, "Casian" and the enforcer droid running through the Imperial base Jyn is holding some kind of tablet, and she's holding it again in the scene with the AT-AT, so it looks like there's a chance they're part of the same sequence.

The kneeling black robed figure seems to be standing in front of what smacks of a freezing tube. Perhaps they Darth Vader... on ice!

Disney does own the whole kit and kaboodle now... so expect to see Vader on ice skates at some arena near you!
