We just got back from seeing it in Glorious IMAX 3D.

I liked it very much. I thought the action sequences were well done, and it hit some emotional notes nicely. The music was good too.

Who was it that appeared to Bruce in the portal during his nightmare? The guy who said "You were right about him. You were always right about him."? Was there any significance to that or was it just some random dude?

Anyway, I gave it a B+.

I can't honestly believe we're at a point where "$800 million would be a huge disappointment." I mean what the hell, that's some kind of absolute insanity.
$800 million is a huge number, sure, but you've got to put that number in perspective. First of all, the film's budget was $200 million with an additional $100-150 million in marketing. We know that studios get about 1/2 of the domestic gross and less that than from the international gross, but let's just go with 50% to make this easier. BvS would need to gross about $600-750 million (and that's being generous) just to break even. Sure, it'll make a profit, but that's not great ROI.

Secondly, let's look at other superhero movie grosses. Not counting China where Deadpool was banned, Deadpool is going to match or exceed BvS's worldwide gross. An R-rated X-Men spinoff starring an unknown comic book character is going to tie Batman Vs Superman. Just think about that. Also, The Dark Knight and TDKR both made more than a billion, so it really stands to reason that this film should have at least matched those films. Big blockbuster movies all make around a billion or more these days, so why didn't BvS?

Thirdly, this film is supposed to launch the DCCU, so the 29% on RT, the terrible word of mouth, and possibly recording breaking second weekend drop is a pretty big disappointment.

Didn't Dennis point out one time that the way Hollywood's accounting practices work makes trying to crunch numbers to figure how much a movie needs to make to be profitable an exercise in futility.

Barry Allen/The Flash, played by Ezra Miller. It's apparently a callback to a similar scene in Crisis on Infinite Earths.

It's not enough. According to this apparently

Reports from last year said Disney and Marvel were reportedly disappointed with the box office totals from this film since they did not live up to the first one

It's going to get ridiculous. They can't just outperform every previous movie.

It's unrealistic expectations

What happens if "Civil War" is the first movie to make 2 billion? And the "Avengers Infinity War part 1" makes 1.9 billion? Will be deemed a failure?

It's impossible to keep getting a higher number. They're just setting themselves up for failure

Maybe they'll scale back after "Infinity War" and not expect a billion for all their movies.

Yes.

Stephen "Green Arrow" Amell told some gossip rags that Grant "the Flash on TV" Gustin is awesome, and it was unnecessary to recast.

Studio's are quite frankly morons, they don't control budgets properly and misuse marketing to increase costs even more. The fact that movies whom make close to $1 billion are deemed disappointing never mind the laughable idea those that make more than $1 billion are not total successful movies drives me mad. WB haven't exactly laid the ground work for the DCEU and decided to cut corners so its their own fault quite frankly if their movies under perform. As for Disney if they don't think they have already peaked and after Avengers 3 their movies will start to make a lot less then they are deluded fools.

Avengers 2 was enough of a disappointment to get rid of Whedon and it made 1.5b.

Your making stuff up, Whedon has stated he simply had enough.

If The Dark Knight can make over a billion dollars in 2008, then surely a film which pits Batman against Superman almost a decade later should be making almost the same to constitute a financial success? Not to mention adjusting for inflation.

A few months ago, a lot of film pages on Facebook were doing clickbait surveys along the lines of 'what will make more money, BvS or Star Wars TFA?' I don't think anyone wonders now what the answer will be. Perhaps WB had no such illusions but given the antipathy to the prequels, they may not have ruled it out.

I liked BvS and I accept that it's made a lot of money but let's not kid ourselves that the first big screen meeting of the world's most famous and established superheroes has met expectations financially.

Just came back from seeing the movie. My favorite part? Wonder Woman! I'm looking forward to her movie.

Now I didn't read this entire thread but:

I can see Superman coming back from the dead but what about Clark Kent? Since they buried him I guess there's no coming back for him unless people know he's Superman?

I'm sure they'll retcon it somehow. I wasn't terribly pleased with that development, either.
