By that reasoning MCU would never have existed...

Even if BvS underperforms there's no going back.
Will WB be sad that they didn't make more money. Likely.
Will they scrap their future plans because of it. Highly unlikely.

The next two films are Suicide Squad which has generated a lot of buzz even among people who don't watch comic book movies , and Wonder Woman who was a highlight of BvS even for a large number of people who hated the movie. Both have a good starting position regardless of BvS backlash.

I don't see them backing out of Justice League neither, it starts shooting in the next few weeks and is reportedly lighter in tone. Risking another underperforming movie is still financially better than delaying their entire slate.

People said that about ASM2, especially because it was going for spin off movies. I think they have too much invested in it, but I personally think two awful awful movies in a row means they have a hell of a time salvaging it. Two movies in and they've completely missed the point and essence of the characters. Can you realistically salvage a Batman who callously kills and comes across as a fucking lunatic? Or a Superman who appears to be at the end of a typical Superman arc in his comics? Wonder Woman was -okay- but I think the casting of a woman who can barely act to lead what you hope is going to be one of your main franchises is already going to kick their ass.

For all his perceived faults, Snyder is a director with a certain recognizable style. I'd hate to see him replaced by some generic, workmanlike director who takes no chances and turns out something stylistically unremarkable.

Get George Miller on board by greenlighting another Mad Max movie on the condition he does a DC movie. Guy knows how to do visuals while making a compelling and coherent movie.

The Wonder Woman theme is on YouTube.

It really was the most momorable score in the film. Loved when she showed up, as Wonder Woman in the outfit for the first time.

^ The idea that WB could pull together the cast and crew of Suicide Squad (not to mention presumably writing up new dialogue and scenes) at a handful of days' notice, because of negative reaction to BvS, has been widely debunked. These reshoots have been planned for some time and the timing is coincidental.

The reshoots have been planned for some time because WB saw this coming. They were panicking months ago, as per Drew McWeeney. While they were hopeful the film would do well, they realized what they had on their hands since late last year (which is why we saw the lighter, more 'fun' trailer for DoJ back in November/December).

They're not going to cancel Justice League 2 :guffaw: JL1 is going to be nothing more than a set up for the Darkseid invasion.

Don't be so sure. At the very least, I wouldn't be surprised if Snyder was sacked and someone else was brought on. Estimates are now saying DoJ has plummeted a record 81% in its second weekend, the largest of any comic-book movie ever. If these numbers continue, expect major changes in the DCEU line-up.

Totally different situation, Sony had a way to both get big money and completely eliminate the risk of starting up a 4th competing comic book movie franchise in the market and they took it.

WB doesn't have the luxury of another delay to start things from scratch yet again, without any security it will do better, so as long as things are profitable, even if they're not insanely profitable, they'll keep on trucking.

I don't think they will, but giving someone with such a lack of talent and pedigree like Snyder has already made this universe difficult to salvage.

Is there a theme there? I just hear T2 type ba DOOM ba DOOM DOOM percussion and some guitars and fragments of some motif. Meh.

In my opinion, just about the only thing good about the two DC movies were the soundtrack. Hans Zimmer knocked it out of the park with the MoS soundtrack after The Dark Knight soundtrack. Marvel have never nailed a consistent and iconic theme with their movies, even with some decent soundtracks.

And now he's gone, hopefully Junkie XL sticks around because his work on the BvS soundtrack and Fury Road was stellar.

Finally got a chance to see it this morning. Since so much has already been said, these are a few of my stray thoughts:

-Not the worst.movie.ever. But good? Eh. I think there is an alright movie somewhere in there waiting to be edited correctly. Maybe we don't need 5 million dream sequences...
-visually stunning.
-Affleck looks great as Batman. The killing thing though? No. But I would still like to see a Batfleck solo movie.
-Irons as Alfred was probably my favorite thing about the movie. He nailed it!
-Also intrigued by Wonder Woman. Looking forward to her movie.
-Yeah Luthor was annoying. Still not impressed with any big screen Luthors.

My biggest disappointment was Cavill as Superman (or maybe more accurately Synder's vision of Cavill's Superman). I defended MoS with all of its flaws, but I just don't like Synder's Superman after seeing BvS. I like the idea of Superman questioning his role in the world, and never had a problem with Pa Kent's speech in MoS. I think exploring how the world would react to a Superman is interesting, however this Superman is just so depressing. When Superman spends the entire movie dour, I long for Christopher Reeve (and I am no "it was better back in my day" person). It's when Superman said "No one can stay good in this world," that I said "ok, I'm out." I just can't see the character I know as Superman saying that. Snyder is well within his right to interpret the character as he sees fit, and I applaud when people try to give their own take on such a well known character. It just doesn't mean I have to agree with all of their choices.

I think Cavill has the look for Superman and he could definitely do Superman, but the vision of Superman in these movies is just completely wrong. The montage where Superman saves a bunch of people, he just looks so fucking bored and resentful that he has to do it. The plane scene from Superman Returns is still by far and away the best scene of Superman on the silver screen in my opinion.

The movie will be close to or above Man of Steel's full gross in 10 days. 10 days..

The studio said $800 million was a hopeful figure before it was released, so I don't really feel $1 billion was ever a necessary target.

RAMA

BVS made $530 million in six days.

MOS made $668 in its lifetime

$800 million wasn't a hopeful figure. $800 million would be a huge disappointment. This film needs to hit $1 billion to be considered even a moderate success.

I liked Man of Steel, and despite finding it flawed on many levels, enjoyed BvS more than I expected to and I'm now looking forward to seeing Wonder Woman.

I do think DC may struggle though. Taking away Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Lantern and Green Arrow, I don't think DC have many other good characters. I know Marvel had lost many of their first string characters and they pulled it off, but I'm not sure that the DC creatives are similarly capable.

I've got no interest in Suicide Squad or those characters and I'm not picking up much interest elsewhere. I hope it'll prove me wrong...

I can't honestly believe we're at a point where "$800 million would be a huge disappointment." I mean what the hell, that's some kind of absolute insanity.

There was one thing that did make me chuckle: Joe Morton playing Silas Stone, creator of Cyborg. Joe Morton, aka Miles Bennet Dyson, creator of Skynet. You'd think he would know not to create cyborgs. :)

Avengers 2 was enough of a disappointment to get rid of Whedon and it made 1.5b.
