And I'd rather not have the movies do something just becuase the comics did it. Hell if being interpreted in different way is good enough for characters like Sherlock Holmes and Dracula I don't see why isn't good enough for a supporting character in a comic book.
I got into a debated with another poster in another thread, and I said there that I don't have problem with them making changes to characters in the movies, but there are situations where they change things to much, to the point that the character is unrecognizable and this is one of them. I really don't have a problem with the characterization of Johnathan in general as a movie character, but it was not a good adaptation of the comic book character.

Han Zimmer retires from composing superhero movies
I watched Batman: Mask of the Phantasm yesterday (still my favorite Batman movie) and chuckled a bit when, during the credits, I saw that Hans Zimmer played a part in the film's excellent music (which was composed by the late Shirley Walker). He was the synthesist. That was way back in 1992.

I honestly don't get the love for modern composers. I can't think of a single movie or television show in the last decade (if not longer) that had a theme that was all that memorable outside of musicals. They all blend together in my ears. Certainly nothing as awesome as the original Superman let alone Star Wars.

To be fair to those of them above, Williams is an almost impossible follow given how many anthemic scores he has put together. Yet, not every piece of music need be The Imperial March and many many scores are rounded and beautiful without having any central theme at all, enhancing mood and interplaying with the images on screen. Alexandre Desplat's score to The Imitation Game is a great example of this. Wonderful piece of scoring, without the bombast of having a Superman Theme or Pursuit of the Falcon pinning your head to the back of the theatre seat

Hugo - Has mad love for Junkie XL's score to Mad Max - Fury Road, but no themes here sadly

And cos I can only post 5 pieces at a time:

I saw the movie on Monday, in IMAX 3d and I loved the movie more than I thought I was going to. While I kinda liked MOS, I really did enjoy BvS. Now, it does have ton of flaws. Which all pretty much have been pointed out. Highlighted by Jesse Eisenberg's Lex Luthor. I can appreciate what he was trying to go for, I can even appreciate his commitment to it. However it just didn't work, at all. Now, I don't particularly like him as an actor. So this was already an uphill climb and it just didn't make it. I too loved Ben Affleck as Batman/Bruce Wayne. I think we now have the complete Batman/Bruce Wayne in a single actor. He has supplanted Michael Keaton as the Batman/Bruce Wayne for me, I'm very happy for him to take the title. I also thought that Gal Godot was awesome as Wonder Woman, in her limited role. She has an amazing presence as Wonder Woman, an inner strength that projects through. Now I can't wait for the stand alone Wonder Woman movie.

I think there needed to be another MOS movie between MOS and BvS. I think this Superman needed to be shown earning his places as Superman of this world. You could have had some easter eggs of Batman and Wonder Woman and other stuff, leading into this movie. I'm not sure why we care enough about this Superman to root against or for him in this movie. Other then we know we should based on other Superman history.

I think Kevin Smith summed it up well with this line for me.

There seems to be a fundamental lack of understanding of what those characters are about. It’s almost like Zack Snyder didn’t read a bunch of comics, he read one comic once, and it was Dark Knight Returns, and his favorite part was the last part where Batman and Superman fight. But … you get to do that in that book because you’ve got three books prior to that and 50 years at that point of comic-book history to build on.

Having pretty shots and fight scenes mean nothing when there is no substance, as well as the characters being intensely dislikable to the point where you kind of hope the bad guy wins.

Ok? That still summed it up for me, I'm not really interested in hearing him talk for an hour.

I just listened to Kevin Smith's review on Fatman on Batman and he was actually largely positive on the movie, which of course the articles don't talk about. He had a lot of problems with it but he liked it for the most part.

I love the idea of a superhero who will only save you if your mother has the same name as his :lol::lol:

<<hey remember when SHIELD was reveled to be a front for HYDRA in the original Winter Solider comic>>
That happened in the Secret Warriors comic book. Actually a shocking amount of material has been taken from that comic, esp Agents of SHIELD.
<<Hank Pym is an older retired super hero in the comics with an adult daughter>>
Hank Pym has retired a few times in the comics. And in the comics Scott Lang's daughter becomes a superhero as well.
<<Peter Parker's classic Spider-Man costume was given to him by Tony Stark.>>
Tony helped Peter design his "Iron Spider" costume which he wore in the Civil War series with Iron Man technology.

First, regardless that they never really stated where Gotham is in relationship to Metropolis but across the bay feels too close.
FWIW, they were across a bay from each other in the Silver/Bronze-Age comics, so there is a historical precedent for that.

If nothing else I hope they keep Zimmer's Wonder Woman theme/leitmotif/sting/whatever.
Kind of an odd choice to give her an electric guitar motif when she's not just an ancient warrior, but her first film will be set over a decade before the electric guitar was invented. WWI and electric guitars...not a natural fit.

I think there needed to be another MOS movie between MOS and BvS. I think this Superman needed to be shown earning his places as Superman of this world.

Most superhero films have the hero become the subject of positive chatter or perception by bystanders in the first film; both Spider-Man series did that, Captain America, Donner's Superman, etc. Look at the Supergirl series--in its early episodes she's treated like the "fan favorite" of the common person, and her acts could not be said to be more heroic and/or beneficial to the public at large. So, its not uncommon to see the world treat heroes like...heroes without much build up on screen to justify the treatment.

Yeah, but Spider-man, Captain America, and Donner's Superman didn't destroy the city while saving the day, and none of them got statues.

Well, CA got a wing in a museum but he was a war hero.
