Forgive me if I remember incorrectly, but Zod never accessed the ship. He erased Jor-El from his ship, the Black Zero, but this ship is the one Clark found in the ice. (And then left for the government to keep for some reason.) I could be wrong though, will need to re-watch MoS.

He left the Black Zero and went to the scout ship because it had a birthing chamber on board, there he encountered Jor-El and proceeded to erase him from the system. Zod then flew the ship back to Metropolis where he attempted to stop the attack on the Black Zero that eventually sent the other Kryptonians back to the Phantom Zone.

Yeah, I edited that last bit out (must have been while you were typing) as I checked the movie and saw how shit my memory of it had been.

I guess it's lucky that his final command was, "Next guy to say hello gets full command."

Didn't Mr. Plinkett do a 3-hour review of a 2-hour long Revenge of the Sith? I took it as a definitive confirmation that Mike Stoklasa had lost his friggin mind.

It is my understanding that while we may all enjoy it and view it as a financial success, in the halls of the WB it is viewed as a bit of a disappointment. They were hoping for an Avengers size opening, whereas domestically not only did it only do $6 million more than The Dark Knight Rises and $8 million more than the Dark Knight, it had a tremendous Friday-Sunday drop which is an indication that the movie might not have legs. That's a win for WB marketing who pushed people into the theaters for the Thursday/Friday open, but might fair poorly for the long term success. Next weekend is being looked at as a barometer of the movie's larger success.

I enjoyed the film, it had a lot going on however the Superman character felt empty just as he did in Man of Steel. They touched upon the Jesus/God worship bit, but there's nothing that inspires me to route or care about this version of Superman. He's no boy scout. The actor playing him i have no issues with. I think Snyder delivered a fantastic visual masterpiece, but like MOS it took itself to seriously and in the end the hero characters didn't feel like hero's

So the movie made $15m on Monday, a record for a Monday in March. Admittedly, it's rare for Easter Monday to fall in March, but that's still a lot of money.

^ That seems pretty good. I think it's safe to say the low numbers on Easter Sunday were due to people wanting to do something else on the holiday.

Critics need to get in touch with popular/mass culture. If I go to the local multiplex to see a movie like BvS, I want a riveting, visceral experience that goes with my popcorn and soda.

If I want "deeper substance" in cinema, then I will go to a film festival or an arthouse theater (which I actually really enjoy doing). But BvS isn't supposed to be that kind of experience.

Should they tailor make their films to not offend critics (most of whom I assume are internet journalist or bloggers nowadays) or should they continue making films for audiences (who mostly have responded positively to MOS and BVS) but tighten up some of the weak spots of their films?

Tricky situation to be sure.

I don't think they need to completely rethink things. Snyder's more mythic and serious approach is still a really good one and worth continuing I think; they just need to make sure future movies are written and edited together a lot better and actually make their characters look somewhat, you know... inspiring and likeable.

Actually for me the problem was that it WAS trying so incredibly hard to be deep and important, with all the speechifying about gods and saviors and myths and Superman's role in the world, etc.

I'm perfectly fine with some of that, but it did feel like the movie laid it on awfully thick.

I don't think I've seen a single TV ad for this since I saw it Thursday night. Maybe Friday morning, but I don't actually recall that. It feels like the TV advertising really dropped off for some reason.
