CBS/Paramount sues to stop Axanar

I think you misunderstand me. I DON'T oppose the current business model (a few creators preparing material for the masses) as it is the traditional model for entertainment content creation and it is highly accountable to the consumer. In short, if we don't like it, we don't buy it, and the content creator(s) is/are out of a job.
Can you imagine the machinations involved if "fans" somehow had a democratic process of creating new content? Can you imagine how terrible that new content would be?
I can't imagine it ending well, especially, as you point out, there is rarely a consensus and an overeliance on nostalgia or familiar elements. This means that it rarely will be different in any extreme or ground breaking way.

I think we'll start off with your basic 2 mil which should get us some awesome carpet, and we'll go from there.

See. Alec Peters has shown us the way. We all know the path to Hollywood success lies in the carpet tiles!

The Future of Trek forum shows that the fans clearly and unanimously want a prime universe show set in the JJverse, which is both entirely original and a TNG reboot, with deeply complex serialised arcs made up of entirely standalone stories where the characters deal with cerebral issues while exploring strange new worlds and embroiled in an intergalactic war, all happening in the lost years between any two Star Trek productions. And the cast would wear TWOK jackets over First Contact undershirts.

That's right. I think this was one concept for the uniform design ;)

How dare you sir?! I will take my limited edition Bat'leth out of its original packaging to challenge you!

No you won't. It's in it's original packaging...

The only True Star Trek is Spock's line, "Check the circuit." Everything after that is both an abomination and not TRUE Star Trek.
I was out after 'Check'.

You filthy 'The-ers' are heretics !

Shut up and take my money!

I liked them too, but they were more like Die Hard than classic Trek.

Most of the Trek movies are unlike the TV episodes. It's been taken for granted since before 1979 that you have to do something on a larger scale than a typical TV episode to get people to pay to see in a theatre what they can see for free on TV.

The movies are all trying to be bigger stories, with more big events (e.g., character deaths, etc) and a lot more action. JJ Abrams isn't responsible for Spock's death, the destruction of the Enterprise, Picard shooting up the holodeck or racing around in a dune buggy, etc. The JJ movies are continuing that trend; they're just doing it in a way that looks like 21st century movies instead of 1980s movies. In that respect, a big dumb shootemup Axanar would be more in line with the movies, including JJ's, than with TOS or TNG or whatever the Axanards consider the real true Trek.
