There's really no excuse for that when you and your girlfriend are reporters....

I've recently been reading some collections of 1942 Superman comics I got from the library, and it's ridiculous how constantly Clark uses his unfair advantage to scoop Lois on stories about Superman's exploits. I do wonder how ethical it is for Clark to report on Superman in the first place, given the conflict of interest and the obfuscation of certain key facts, but constantly making sure that Lois fails to get the big story seems particularly nasty. I'm kind of surprised she managed to keep her job.

(And I'm sure Snyder would be happy to hear that 1942 Superman sometimes indirectly brought about the deaths of criminals, say, by smashing through the side of a plane to rescue Lois and then not bothering to prevent the structurally compromised plane from crashing with the villain aboard. Once he even deliberately tricked an elderly villain into killing himself by substituting a rapid-aging potion for the de-aging potion the villain thought he was taking. It's surprising, because I know Batman's no-kill policy was in place by that point. Although it's possible he was still playing by "I don't have to save you" rules.)

Yeah, this is something that always rubbed me wrong about Superman. A bigger deal than Superman telling Lois that he never lies to her, but is lying about his identity.

In Superman TAS, this very issue was played for laughs.

In John Byrne's Superman run (Action Comics #597) this came up and Lois was rightfully pissed about both Clark and Superman and didn't try to hide it. I think she forgave him after Superman agreed to share more with Lois about his private life. Things that he doesn't talk about with anyone.

Global box office take is just shy of $200 million.
Guess Superman won't have to do this...

Superman is like a lot of other heroes - he changes on the whim of the readers/authors. After all, Batman spent a large chunk of his career excessively chummy. It's the main reason superhero reboots bother me less than other movies. The source material getting rebooted 30 times in various states of grimdarkness takes the edge off it.

I gave it a solid A. I went and surprised myself by enjoying the film. Sure it has big problems, namely in the editing, as others have pointed out scenes pop up seemingly with no rhyme or reason. Now the movie does have a coherent narrative, but it certainly feels like a lot of footage has been excised.

I felt like a lot of the Superman elements got shortchanged though. This was definitely Batman's film, fortunately Affleck was great. And like others here I loved Wonder Woman, she had a great theme. Poor Amy Adams though, while she did get a fair amount of screentime she didn't really have much of a character this time around, she was more of a plot device than a character. But I think others beat me to that criticism already.

I have no huge issues with the direction of this film, but maybe it's time for WB to move on from Snyder.

I was actually surprised how much Lois had to do in this movie. I thought she was would be a glorified cameo with all the heroes around. I was also surprised to see them living together... and seeing her bewbs.

Wasn't Wonder Woman's theme just an electric guitar riff?

Yeah but I happen to like electric Guitar rifts.

I read reprints partway through '41, and he was definitely still occasionally inflicting mortal harm on criminals on purpose in those stories. It really fits with his M.O. at that early time...he was effectively the guy who bullied the bullies (and sometimes killed the killers).

Guess that gives me a little more motivation to schlep out to the theater tomorrow....

A very good movie, not excellent, but it was certainly a nice follow-up to the Man of Steel. Most of the major players portrayed their characters really well, especially Ben Affleck.

My only gripe is with Luthor's character, who didn't quite project the evil genius persona. Eisenberg is a fine young actor, but at times I felt he was trying to channel the Joker, acting out his sociopathic eccentricities, not the billionaire genius criminal mastermind he's known for. Which to me raises the questions: Who is Luthor? What are his motivations? Why was he trying to demonize the Kryptonian superhero? And why taunt the Dark Knight to attack the Man of Steel, when he already appeared to have an axe to grind with him?

Other than that, I look forward to the JL movies. I give it an A.

A+. I loved it.

But damn, is Kal going to have to kill that son of a bitch in every movie?

Minor annoyance - I got tired of Wayne's dream life pretty quickly. They come across less as nightmares than some kind of psychotic breaks or something.

What am I saying? He's Batman - of course they're psychotic episodes!

Flash seems sketchy to me. Missed seeing Hal.

Deadline reports this as tracking to be Warner Bros biggest opening ever, beating a record set by Harry Potter. It's killing in China. Don't think they'll be sacking Snyder any time soon.

I haven't seen the movie yet but with all the talk of aesthetics and so on you think they would go for a more traditional portrayal of Luthor at least once in the movies.

I don't know that there is a good traditional portrayal of Luthor to be derived from the comics. The best would probably be Byrne's, but the character gets reconceived pretty regularly.

Anyone chuckle at the times when we had to be told there was no civilians in the area more than once?

Anderson cooper-everyone's left for the day at lexcorp so no one can get hurt

General-The second object crashed in a deserted part of Gotham. No civilians

Batman: The ports of Gotham have been abandon for years.

Pacing was all over the place for the first hour. It was like Snyder couldn't pay attention for more than four seconds

Lois goes back to Gotham. She somehow knows that the Kryptonite spear can affect Doomsday

Batman Killed people. No going around it.

-Grenades thrown straight at guards

-The Russian being burned alive

-Cars falling on to cars with people in them

-Blowing up guards in a billion dollar plane

I heard leaving the theater that they thought the title of the movie was misleading

"Batman VS Superman.............for five minutes. Then he gets his ass kicked by Kryptonite gas bombs"

I was expecting a couple of jokes to lighten the mood. I feel like the audience was practically BEGGING for SOMETHING.

They were gungho for

"I figured you were. Cape"

Wonder Woman does steal the show. There's no denying it. It's been said many times. I heard a few applause's.

Sadly no applause at the end. I think people just wanted it to end.

There was no applause in my theater either. I was at least hoping their would be when Wonder Woman showed up to the fight, because that was such an awesome moment.

Although it was a strikingly literal and faithful adaptation of the style and approach of the Batman comics of the '50s and early '60s, [the Adam West Batman] was made with the deliberate attempt to mock them and invite people to make fun of them. And yet it's one of my favorite Batman adaptations ever, and one of the most beloved today, though it went through a period of being widely scorned (and Miller's The Dark Knight Returns -- and therefore this movie -- only exists as a reaction against the campy comedy of Batman '66).

I feel it's an urban legend, at best, that Miller's Dark Knight Returns was conceived of or executed as a reaction to Adam West's Batman. Batman, in the comics, had already become serious fare; if anything was a reaction to Adam West's Batman, it was the Denny O'Neill/Neal Adams era that produced Ra's al-Ghul. Dark Knight went through a long gestation process, including the single day that our mutual friend Bob Greenberger was the project's editor, and its starting point was Dirty Harry and Clint Eastwood rather than Adam West.

The thing that gets me about Snyder's grasp on it - and I actually enjoyed the film - is that when he was defending the film (this was in the same series of UK interviews that produced the 'sad Affleck' meme), he said something like 'Well, if you look at the original comics, I've totally captured their aesthetic.'

When I read that, before I saw the film I couldn't help but marvel that, apparently, the most important thing to him was capturing the aesthetic. Not the spirit, not the heart, not the essence of the characters but the aesthetic. Yes, it's a visual medium and he undoubtedly makes great-looking films, but if he thinks people are satisfied solely because films look like the source material, he's missing the point.

Years ago, I described Snyder's Watchmen adaptation as "soulless." It's a word I still use. He absolutely captured the aesthetic of the graphic novel, but he never left his own stamp on the material.
