    Mine would be:

    10. Elite Force & Elite Force II:

This is the only game from post-2000 that I will include on this list, because I am very unimpressed with everything that happened to Star Trek gaming after Activision obtained control over the licence. Star Trek: Elite Force was an enjoyable, if unrealistic, game, set nominally in Star Trek: Voyager's episodes, but containing elements from other parts of the franchise, including a memorable mission on board a mirror-universe ship. Like Voyager itself, it suffered from a tendency to make certain enemies, who should not look weak, appear less of a threat (you know which ones), and was very gung-ho for a game set on-board a science vessel, but out of everything that happened after the Interplay and Microprose stopped making Star Trek games, its probably the most fun. The same can't be said for the sequel, which was another step down for Star Trek games - transferring the focus to the Enterprise E TNG movies and post-Dominion War Alpha Quadrant, but failing to capture the spirit of Star Trek badly, as with most of Activision's work.

    9. Harbinger & The Fallen:

These two games aren't actually related, but they both share the setting of Deep Space Nine, and thus I have included them here together. Star Trek: Harbinger was an attempt to do an adventure game in the style of Judgement Rites or A Final Unity, but using DS9 as a setting instead. It wasn't bad, but never really reached the level of those games, despite featuring the entire cast of DS9 reprising their roles (and what a cast that was). Star Trek: The Fallen unfortunately did not have everyone reprise their role, but was a very interesting third-person-shooter, complete with a plot that touched on Bajoran archeology, and features enemies as diverse as Bajoran and Jem'Hadar soldiers. There were three campaigns; one as Sisko, one as Worf and one as Kira - unfortunately Avery Brooks didn't reprise his role, but thankfully Michael Dorn and Nana Visitor did! The Fallen can be made to work with modern systems via nGlide.

    8. Generations:

Some people will be surprised that I have chosen to include this not-very-well received and almost forgotten tie-in-game for Star Trek: Generations, in my list. But the reason why this game deserves to be here, and others don't, is that once again, this was actually quite faithful to Star Trek as a setting, and while the game suffered problems, being an early Doom-style FPS, it allowed you to explore some quite diverse and interesting planets - interact with them via an inventory system - and had some decent narrative depth, complete with the entire TNG cast once again reprising their roles. I don't know another game where you can infiltrate a Romulan Outpost in first person, and order a plate of Romulan viinerine from a replicator in their barracks! Or explore the ruins of a Minosian planet for that matter.

    7. Klingon Honor Guard:

The best of all attempts to create a Star Trek first-person-shooter. Star Trek: Klingon Honor Guard used the Unreal engine to let players go on a flight of fancy; what would happen if you made a Klingon version of Quake, Unreal or Half-Life - a Klingon Call of Duty? What if instead of a Glock 17 pistol, you had a Klingon Disruptor Pistol? If instead of a space marine, you were a member of the Klingon Special Forces? It managed this, whilst still remaining remarkably faithful to on-screen canon. The missions led you to Klingon colony worlds, the prison planetoid Rura Penthe, and a Klingon battlecruiser, amongst others. It featured voice work by Tony Todd as Kurn and Robert O'Reilly as Gowron! It's hard to forget stumbling through frozen caves whilst trying to get into the security perimeter of Rura Penthe.

    6. Fleet Captains:

Not a video game this time, but a part of the recent dramatic upsurge in board games in geek culture in general. Star Trek: Fleet Captains is one of the first examples of an attempt to create the highly-faithful and intelligent games that Star Wars has been getting in recent years - and by far the best I've played. The game is the closest thing so far to a tabletop version of Birth of the Federation. Your starships explore sector-by-sector, finding planets, building outposts, and engaging in scientific and combat missions, against the Klingons, Romulans or Dominion. Unlike games like Star Trek: Catan, which are just a re-skinning of an existing game, and have little to do with the setting, it attempts to model Star Trek faithfully - it's always better when a board game captures the setting it is meant to be depicting. A pity it's hard to get the Romulan Expansion these days. Until Star Trek: Frontiers and Star Trek: Ascendancy come out, this will remain the best - but when they do, all bets are off, as Ascendancy will try to replicate a 4X computer game on tabletop, and Frontiers will use the Mage Knight system to actually lay down new exploration tiles as your ship moves into the unknown!

    5. A Final Unity:

What is the best work of fiction involving the beloved Enterprise D crew, which isn't an episode or movie? Easy question. Although it suffered some compatibility problems even at the time of release, you can get Star Trek: A Final Unity working on DOSBox on many modern Windows 7, 8 and 10 systems. Considered by fans to be the equal of a TNG episode, or even a short season, the game is to Star Trek: The Next Generation, what Judgement Rites is to Star Trek: The Original Series - you can navigate, battle, beam down landing parties, solve mysteries, and all with the full TNG voice cast! The plot, as in Judgement Rites and Klingon Academy, was also great. The only reason this game isn't higher in the list, is the quality of the games below being such a high bar - the order of the top five was a narrowly-fought contest. But it rounds out the top five, because it is an all-time classic, and captures the setting perfectly.

    4. Klingon Academy & Starfleet Academy:

Talk about faithfulness! Star Trek: Klingon Academy brought back Christopher Plumber and David Warner as General Chang and Chancellor Gorkon! Star Trek: Starfleet Academy brought back William Shatner, Walter Koenig and George Takei as Kirk, Chekov and Sulu! And they were as well-written as some of the motion pictures! Klingon Academy in particular is fondly remembered for being a faithful direct-prequel to the amazing film Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, which is many people's favorite Star Trek film, above even The Wrath of Khan. It depicted the Klingon Empire of Gorkon and Chang's time from the inside - even enrolling you in their command school, and being taught very realistic political and battle tactics by General Chang himself. In a memorable scene in Starfleet Academy, Kirk discusses his answer to the Kobayashi Maru with one of the potential graduates. Unlike many later games, which defiantly DO NOT deserve to be considered canon, these games emphatically do.

    3. Birth of the Federation:

Not only is Star Trek: Birth of the Federation the best Star Trek strategy game ever made, thus far, it's also probably the best 4X game ever made. If this were merely some strategy game re-skinned into a Star Trek game, I would not include it on the list. But as fans know, BOTF lovingly reproduced the Next Generation era, complete with minor species who react as they would in reality, upon first contact - Mizarians surrendering to the first people they come across - Mintakans becoming worshipful of the first Federation or Romulan representative they meet - the Chalnoth and Nausicaans hating the peaceful Federation, but finding the Klingon Empire a far more inspiring society - the Betazoids, Ullians and Vulcans, giving research bonuses, etc. It soaked up thousands of hours of Star Trek fan's childhoods, and playing it today, via Armada Fleet Command's universal installer, it's as great as ever

    2. Judgement Rites & 25th Anniversary:

Honestly, I have never played a game more faithful to it's source material than Star Trek: Judgement Rites. It remains the best game ever made for Star Trek by a long shot, and one of the best games ever made, period. The game, and it's sister-game Star Trek: 25th Anniversary (which I have also included here due to it's extreme similarity, but which is not as well written), lets you do literally anything Kirk could do in Star Trek: The Original Series - plot a course to a new star system, beam down a landing party, explore a planet, solve mysteries, fight Klingons and Romulans - and it was as well written as any of the series - featuring the full original voice cast! If there was justice in the world, Judgement Rites would be considered equal canon with Star Trek: The Original Series and Star Trek: The Animated series. Many fans consider it to be equal to those, and treat it as a lost season of episodes, or a movie. The only reason it doesn't take the top spot is due to the great influence and vintage of the number one. But really, Judgement Rites is the real number 1. They are now available and fully playable on GOG.com and Steam - what a treasure for fans!

    1. EGA Trek:

An excellent start to the 90s - the golden age of Star Trek gaming - EGA Trek's expansiveness and accuracy (even the tutorial being presented as a briefing from Starfleet Command), secure it's place as an eternal classic. Subsequent attempts to remake the game have lost some of the spirit, and have been forced to drop Star Trek as a setting due to licensing, but I hope that someday CBS will license a faithful remake. It was itself a remake of the older text-based Star Trek game for early computers, which was apparently ported to almost everything, and enjoyed huge popularity with early computer geeks. If you have the patience to learn a game that requires methodical strategy, do yourself a favor and DOSBox this game. It could be classed as a Roguelike - and thus suits this post-Dark Souls age of hardcore gaming.

    END OF LIST

    Honorable mentions:

    - Bridge Commander
    - Starfleet Command
    - Star Trek: Klingon
    - Star Trek: Borg

    Dishonorable mentions:

    - Armada & Armada II (for treating starships like disposable tanks, and having a fanfic plot)
    - Star Trek: The 2013 Video Game (to call it "Gears of Star Trek" would be too complimentary)
    - Away Team (the idea of a squad-based top down away-team game is good; the game wasn't)
    - Star Trek Online (where to even begin; 22nd century starships in the 25th century?)

Bridge Commander. By virtue it is the only Trek game I still have installed on my PC
    A Final Unity. Best story
    Klingon Academy. SFX are amazing
Generations. Beign the first PC Trek game I ever owned. Loved the videos.
The Fallen . Great, immersive worlds
Starfleet Academy. Due to the videos of Shatner et al.
Birth of The Federation. I would have gotten a 1st at Uni if it wasn't for this game! Took 30 mins at times to process the turns on my 200MHz PC!
Borg. Videos are amazing. I love Wolf 359 and the way it's filed like a TNG "lost" episode.
    Harbinger.
Elite Force 1&2. Love the Type 2 phaser fire and adaptive Borg shields, and exploring Voyager
Dominion Wars. Lovely SFX. Never had any issues running it, unlike some.
    Armada.
Hidden Evil. Frustrating to move around, but ok worlds
Klingon Honour Guard. Yuck. The only game I ever had major difficulties getting to work stably. Likes the "saucer" seperatign D7!
25th Anniversary/Judgement Rites. Sacerligeous, I know! Basic graphics - would score better if those were improved.
Star Trek Online . Too much grinding. The episodes are great fun though. I wouldn't want to pay for it!
Star Trek 2013. OK, not as bad as folks make out
    Legacy. Meh
    Away Team. ARGGHGHG!
    Starship Creator. CRAP!!!!!

The graphics in Judgement Rites and 25th Anniversary are amazing! :)

    Like an expressive painting! :)

I seriously love old school game art - those pixel arts often captured more expressive things than later ultra-realistic games. From the 60s style rooms on these alien planets, to the cool sprites.

@MANT! - Interesting list! I was personally not a big fan of the Starfleet Command games, partly because I came to them a bit late I think, but they were certainly one of the better things to come out of Star Trek gaming. Glad to see Judgement Rites getting the recognition it deserves!

Klingon Honor Guard was one of my favorites as a kid, and it can be made to work with modern systems pretty easily. Part of the reason I love these games so much is that they allowed you to actually explore new areas of the Star Trek universe never seen on screen - new planets, lots of lore and mystery - and they actually added to the setting rather than subtracting, by making logical additions - like say new Klingon rifles in KHG, exploration of a Romulan base, complete with Romulan food, Romulan computer interphases, or ancient ruins, etc, in Generations, and just an absolute ton of episode-worthy writing in Judgement Rites.

Fascinating planets and locations in games (incomplete list):

    25th Anniversary

    - - Beta Myamid System / Hijacked USS Masada
    - - ARK-7 Research Space Station

    - - Planet Digifal III / Planet Hrakkour IV
    - - Alpha Proxima System / Asteroid Scythe
    - - USS Republic

    Judgement Rites

    - - Espoir Research Space Station
    - - Planet Balkos III
    - - Delphi System
    - - Planet Onyius II
    - - The Antares Rift
    - - Planet Nova Atar III
    - - Alien Colony Ship

    A Final Unity

    - - Mertens Research Space Station
    - - Planet Horst III
    - - Planet Morassia / Nature Preserve
    - - Planet Frigis
    - - Planet Allanor / Chodak Ruins

    Generations

    - - Amargosa Observatory Space Station
    - - Planet Galorndon Core (Romulan Outpost)
    - - Planet Arvada II / Alien Ruins

    - - Planet Qualor II
    - - Mendora Nebula
    - - The Kor-Van
    - - Praxis (House of Duras Outpost)

I agree FTL is one of the best Trek games ever made (without the Trek name) - and I love Mass Effect a 10000% (although its more similar to Babylon 5 in some ways; think its a more general tribute to sci-fi space opera).

But Star Ocean 4? No so sure about that one ;)

I can only list my top 4.

    4.) Starfleet Battles
A good space combat board game. Some of it is self-explanatory (though the panels and sample game) but the only reason it is not ranked higher is that so much of it is so complicated.

    3.) Star Trek Conquest
Good graphics and a fairly good combat system. Available on the Nintendo Wii and PlayStation 2 (I got it on the Wii)

2.) Star Trek Roleplaying Game/Star Trek Starship Tactical Combat Simulator (FASA)
A great game simulating "Boldly going where no man has gone before." and starship life plus its tactical combat game for space battles (which I enjoy watching and playing). That is a supplement, only, however.

    1.) Star Trek Tactical Assault
Available on the Nintendo DS and PSP (I got it on the DS) with a good combat system. Now, one thing I wish the game had: Blue Alert. Readies weapons but not shields (the opposite of Yellow Alert which does shields only) like the other half of Red Alert. And an option to Arm Phasers but not Photons - or vice versa.

Tactical Assault looks cool, but I haven't played it - someone like me who loves story appreciates that you get little on-screen sprites of Captains and stuff talking when their ships are in distress - adds a bit of character to an otherwise sterile thing like space combat.

Unfortunately in general, all the good Star Trek games have been on PC only, which is bad for console gamers - Tactical Assault, despite being just average-to-good, is probably the best console Star Trek game made - and even then, only on DS and PSP, not a TV console.

Although when I was younger I tried a few 'pure space' combat games, like Starfleet Command, I never got into them as much as with things like Judgement Rites or Klingon Academy, because Star Trek sort of requires character interaction (so does Star Wars, or any good setting for that matter). So these days, I'm quite damning in my criticism of games that just model a bunch of starships firing at each other and nothing else - things like Dominion Wars or Legacy.

At least with things like Starfleet Academy and Klingon Academy, even though they were pure combat games, between missions you had meaningful dialogue, and even dialogue choices. Those FMVs were great.

    2. Starfleet command 3, rpg like and simplier than Bc, this game has it's own good taste.
    3. Armada 2. Ah i like Rts. But this one need a little mods, so the ships aren't too easily get destroyed.
Btw is there any new startrek games , that is similar to master of orion or Bof? I didnt play my bof since it always randomly crashed.

I'm a big sucker for the games where the original actors reprise their roles in the video games. Borg is definitely a guilty pleasure, despite not actually being a video game.

Damn, I barely come to this forum any more, perhaps I can change that in the future.
Anyway as a long term Trek gamer this is something I can not ignore.
My first choices are obvious but then sadly it becomes a little nebulous as some titles have not aged that well as I remembered including titles I once really loved.

Okay the first on my list are the titles I am not completely sure about as as I mentioned before trek games don't age that well in general and some of these titles were often only good around the time they were released in and quickly became outdated.
Sadly I can not take some titles into account as despite owning them I have never played or finished them such as the Starfleet Command series 1, 2, 3, and Orion Pirates, Dominion Wars, and Invasion which I still should play again and try to finish one of these days.

Klingon Honor Guard. It was okay I guess and I liked the big levels such as that space station. But basically this was Unreal with a Klingon skin and I did not find the storyline that interesting.

Away Team. Okay the graphics are in general crap, at some point the cutscenes during the mission briefings stop because apparently they were not all finished in time, the gameplay has quite some errors and flaws in it, and some of the character feel a little fan wankish written (like the writer tried to make them a little to much Star Trek, we have someone related to Kirk, Pulaski, someone who knows Chakotay, a little to much 'small universe' syndrome), but I really love the storyline in general and kept wondering who was behind the take over of the Alpha and Beta Quadrant superpowers and the Borg until the end.
I also thought the Incursion was a great design.

Starfleet Academy. For the time this was the Star Trek starship simulator and it had such a variety of missions not to mention all kinds of background information on the computer I spend an entire evening reading.
I also rather liked the subplot that takes place during the game and I really wish I had been able to unlock it myself during my sessions.
The FMV is rather somewhat mixed, the acting is okay but it is clear that the people are on a set with a green screen. Also check out the opening with the applauding cadets, I guess those darn Dominion shapeshifters were already infiltrating the Federation in the 23th century but apparently no one told that them that humans in general are diverse enough that it is rare to find complete look alikes.
The gameplay was enjoyable for the time but has not aged that well and the same rather goes for the graphics. (for some reasons 3D graphics age much faster than most pixel art)
I recently tried to play it again but found it rather difficult to get back into.
Wish the Meclani AI were part of Star Trek canon.

Klingon Academy. Sorry, never finished this one.

Star Trek Shattered Universe. I liked the premise for this game and in general really enjoyed the campaign, going through the Mirror Universe and encountering familiar plot devices from the original show such as the M-5 computer, the Doomsday Machine, the First Federation, the giant Amoeba. A shame that the Gorn and the Vulcans did not make it.
The graphics were perhaps not the best but I still liked them and in general have no problem with them.
Gameplay however is a different story, the ships don't always handle that well and I really wish they had some sort of mini warp or something and weapons specifically designed to take on capital ships. I also wish we could command our co pilots instead of basically flying solo.
The game was also ridiculously hard sometimes and the time limits during some missions could be very frustrating.

    5. Star Trek TNG A Final Unity. Probably the best The Next Generation game that really captures the spirit of the show.
It really feels like a lost episode and would probably have made a much better movie than Generations.
The art is in general also great, especially the backgrounds of some places and the gameplay works in general well though it has some hiccups here and there sometimes. (like the time it sometimes takes for a character to walk to an exit).
I am less positive about the spaceship combat which doesn't feel as good as the adventure part. I never figured it out and after having played Bridge Commander I wish that system replaced this one.
The Chodak and the Garidians would make a good addition to the Star Trek universe

    4. Star Trek Elite Force 1 & 2. For a long time EF1 was my favorite Star Trek shooter while EF2 despite the graphical improvements didn't feel as enjoyable due to the weaker storyline. I found the Delta Quadrant always much more interesting than yet another campaign in the Alpha Quadrant during the TNG era.
Sadly as I mentioned before after a long time it has been forced to give up its place for DSN The Fallen as the game sadly as I have come to dislike some of those cramped little levels and rather linear gameplay.
Still love the Borg and Forge (wish it made another appearance) stuff though.

    3. Star Trek Deep Space Nine The Fallen. Previously I would have put Star Trek Elite Force 1 and 2 here but after having replayed them recently I have come to determine they have not aged very well.
The story of DSN the Fallen is not always as exciting/exotic (it is rather grounded in the show, both a plus and a minus as it would not allow for some of the stuff Voyager's crew would encounter in the Delta Quadrant) but it pretty well fits in with the show though in general I am not a fan of the Bajoran faith stuff.
The controls are not always as good though, the mouse aiming is fickle sometimes as I require auto aiming to get a decent shot. And sometimes I shoot things I don't want to shoot instead of enemies.
I really like the Grigari and their ship (I want a toy of that thing) and I wish the aliens made another appearance.

    2. Bridge Commander. Some people favor Klingon Academy as the best Star Trek space sim, for me it is Bridge Commander that really captures how I think a starship would handle.
A great storyline, lots of civilizations/species and their ships (sadly no Borg in the main campaign), nice background art.
However the game did have some flaws, nothing against Martha Hackett but Saffi Larsen could be incredibly annoying sometimes, who is suppose to be running the ship? Me or her?
Graphics of the characters is rather poor to be honest in the vanilla game and even the ships and planets could use an update now. (I should use some of those graphics packs.)
The Kessok would make an awesome addition to the Star Trek universe.

    1. Star Trek 25th Anniversary & Judgment Rites. I consider both part to be of the same game (though Judgment Rites has some better background graphics) split in two releases.
A collection of good, enjoyable and the occasional average (but nod bad storyline) which really recreate some of the atmosphere of the show. The gameplay is in general also well and not obscure though there are occasional little issues. Some puzzles are also really ridiculous annoying. (entry codes on Scythe for example)
The space combat gameplay was okay in general and it is clear that the designers were inspired by Wing Commander, however some battles were ridiculously hard such as the final battle at the end of Anniversary.
Wish it could be updated with the battle system from Bridge Commander.

And yeah, I also love the pixel art, sometimes when I find some nice pixel screens of games I can not help but watch them and longing back for that era. (had that with the mentioned games, had that with Wing Commander 1, 2, and Privateer)

Star Trek games I would like to see? A Bridge Commander 2 (there was some planning being done on a sequel and one of the ships we would have flown would have been a Defiant class which would have controlled quite different than a Galaxy or Sovereign Class)
And yes, I do know about Star Trek Excalibur and the new Crew game designed for VR that is being made.

Star Trek Elite Force 3. I really would like to see Munro, Telsia, Chang, and Chell back for another adventure, perhaps this time operating from DSN (meaning that Nana Visitor, Alexander Siddig, and Aron Eisenberg could make an appearance) and using Defiant during their missions to various worlds, ships, and space stations while taking on a new force that threatens the Alpha Quadrant. (with the Borg making another appearance alongside)

Another adventure game would be nice but not one of those tie in games Telltale has been making in which are basically 'choose your own story' games. I mean adventure gameplay like 25th Anniversary and A Final Unity.
And which crew should play in it? I don't like the new Abramsverse/Kelvin verse so those would be out for me and I think there is little point in bringing back the characters from shows that have ended more than ten years ago. (and several of the original cast members have already passed on)
I guess a non talkie Original Series adventure game could be done but people would probably complain about the lack of voices.

I don't know if I've even played ten Trek games altogether over the years.

I enjoyed the following, in no particular order:
    Starfleet Command I and II
    Voyager: Elite Force
    Deep Space Nine: The Fallen
    25th Anniversary
    Klingon Academy

Technically, that would be Elite Force 3. :techman:
