If money keeps disappearing there's either laundering going on, a drug problem, a gambling problem, or straight up irresponsibility in spending.

@Lynsioux was talking about that house Alec bought his ex and her kids yesterday and mentioned she thought it might've been to keep her quiet/cover something up. I could see drugs & irresponsibility, but it would take a little more suspension of disbelief for me to see him as a compulsive gambler...........

Yeah I was wondering that. If he's genuinely bidding on props costing 6 thousand dollars or more, how is he funding that? Leaving aside the fact that I would be stupid to bid on something run by Alec Peters, I would love to own Siskos uniform. But despite working full time for a decent wage and having a partner who does the same, there's no way I could afford to bid. How can he? On the flip side, if he had enough personal savings to do so, why does he need a salary for working on his pet project?

When I retired at age 59, I had worked for wages in over 40 of those years. Most of us do. Alec Peters is a person who has never been employed by anyone since he was a volleyball coach at Occidental College, and another school (USC?) for a few years after law school. Wonder why he left that field? This is pure speculation here. I could not find anything on him and Occidental besides the article online re his coaching career in light of his JD degree, and how much he LOVED coaching. BUT I did see an article about Occidental's team having some penalties for breaking various rules re recruiting and so on. Makes you think, doesn't it? But anyway, my point is, he is clueless about what real people do in life. He thinks he's got it all figured out. One scheme after the next. But Karma....

@Tom you had some kind of relationship with Peters because of Renegades. Does he still talk to you or does he just talk crap about you now since you post in this thread?

If the outfit does not fit, you must acquit !! hmm... where have I heard that before. ;)

A good question... there isn't a viable answer that does not add to the idea that Alec is committing fraud.

It was the Chewbacca defence...

You know, as it so happens, a friend of mine in the US happens to know a family with... legitimate... business concerns - could always ask him to see what they can do

Purely out of concern, of course, as legitimate businessmen

Marketworks Founder Alec Peters Resigns from CEO Post By Ina Steiner

Marketworks founder Alec Peters resigned earlier this year from his CEO position. The company, which began life as an eBay auction-management service and now helps sellers on multiple marketplaces, is currently in a national search for a replacement.

"In order to take this company to the next level, we need someone with a different skill set," said Peters. "A good entrepreneur knows when to step aside. The entrepreneur who can take a company from start-up to public company, like a Michael Dell or Jeff Bezos, is rare." According to Peters, Marketworks has the potential to be a public company in a few years.

Peters won the Ernst & Young 2004 "Entrepreneur of the Year" award for the Alabama, Georgia, and Tennessee region, which recognizes recipients for growing a company from a concept into an industry leader. He was also named one of Catalyst Magazines "Top 50 Entrepreneurs" in Atlanta. He has a law degree from the University of North Carolina School of Law and coached NCAA volleyball at the University of Southern California. Peters founded Marketworks, then called Auctionworks, in 1999.

Marketworks Chief Marketing Office Paul Lundy said Alec Peters is an inspirational leader. He brought passion and leadership to Marketworks for the first 5 years of the company. But, according to Lundy, Peters had always stated that he knew he was not the right person to run an established company with operational intricacies. "His forte is starting businesses," Lundy said, and now that Marketworks has offices in four countries with over 4,000 customers from 37 countries, "It's a natural time for him to make that decision."

Peters calls his push two-and-a-half years ago to go international the "last great challenge" for him. Since he left Marketworks, he is working on three Internet-based ideas, two in the marketplace space. "Just being excited about the potential of these ideas is fun." He also plans to increase the time he spends as a speaker at entrepreneurship classes at Georgia State University, Georgia Tech and University of Georgia and his work with the entrepreneurship program at Georgia State University.

Marketworks has hired a recruiting firm to help with the search for Peters' replacement, and the hunt is going well, said Lundy. "We are being very selective. We need someone who can create value with a great track record. We've seen a couple of candidates already that we are pretty high on."

Speculation about possible bad personal habits or private relationship details of Mr. Peters is really making me uncomfortable here. The public record of the companies that people here have access to may be less than transparent in its content, and I think that is ok to note; and relating personal experiences, same. Lots of the Axanar record is material for comedy clubs. There is a lot of grey area. But voicing speculation of coercive personal relationships, drug habits, etc. I feel is just not good and I hope this can be heard in a constructive way, thanks.

He's funding it with other people's money who won things at the auction. He gets his 23% buyer's premium and uses it to purchase items he has bid on and won. Which he gets to save said 23% buyer's premium because he's the auctioneer. And save on shipping, since the item is sitting in the Axanar warehouse. Brilliant. Legal. And a terrible business practice. Alec wrote the book "How to Piss Off Your Customers".

I have not talked to him since August. We had a email battle regarding some of the terms he was using in the Indiegogo campaign (long story, rather not get into it). Bottom line, he was a little over the top with things he claimed was 'marketing reasons' and now some of that is why CBS/P is suing them. When we filmed back in 2013, Alec came by for 3 days and was very eager to see how the process was. Things were good, I even recommended some people to join his crew, etc.. It's only this past year (after the successful Kickstarter campaign) when things went down hill. Was it mission creep? was it greed? Was it to much ambition and the need to be better than anyone else? Who is to say for sure.

As many here who now me, I can be the nicest guy in the world. But, I will speak out when I see other fans get ripped off. As James Cawley said recently, if you cant do it for the love of Trek you should not be doing it at all. We are all fans, and some of us do what we can to keep Trek alive and entertain other fans. Star Trek is not a commercial venture, we don't own it, and we need to respect those that do.

Read through this link again. It's a long read and I'll admit, it does go a ways toward explaining a good deal of Alec's issues surrounding money. Where Axanar and such is concerned though, it bothers me somewhat to write it off as some sort of pathological thing, but then again, it's not really my place I guess.

My surmise re the ownership of the house was not to suggest any vices or anything. I don't think Alec is a drug addict. I'm sure he's not a gambler. He does enjoy living well. My suggestion of "keeping her quiet" was about allegations already raised re shill bidding, sharp business practices, possible auction fraud, etc. In any event, providing a home for a friend is a nice thing to do, and I think his primary motivation was indeed helping a family he cares about. He is very good to the children and loves them. I apologize if anything more nefarious was implied in any of my statements.

Of course, after this business of dropping Diana... Makes you wonder if he has a history of dumping his women when he is in trouble

I'm not going to be a noodge about this, but I really think a line needs to be drawn in this thread about speculating about anyone's personal relationships or personal life. My feeling is it is not this thread's business at all what patterns any of the Axanar people have in their personal relationships, and speculating about their personal conduct outside of Axanar's business operations should be kept in the minds of the thinkers, rather than expressed here. Not wanting to piss anyone off or single out just this post, but I think this is pretty essential. Thanks.
