What is the worst episode in season one and why? Give your reasons.

One vote only. Once the thread settles and we have a clear winner, I'll do a thread for season two and so on until we have seven episodes competing for the title of all time worst Voyager episode. Only 16 to choose from for season one so it shouldn't take long.

In season one, I would have to say Emanations is the one I struggle to enjoy the most. It's Harry's first proper outing and it's pretty boring stuff. The aliens aren't very interesting and it feels like stuff we've pretty much seen before. Heroes and Demons isn't a favourite of mine either but it takes place exclusively on the ship so I count it as a bottle episode (which are ones I love). Emanations is just a weak episode that doesn't grab me.

Honourable mention for best season one episode: Eye of the Needle

Since season 1 is the only one I don't have on DVD to enjoy in an endless loop, I picked Time and Again, although that aforementioned Emanations comes in a close second.

Why don't you like Time and Again?

The fruit salad costumes or the annoying kid?

I've lost count of the amount of times I've used the phrase "I'm from Kalto province" to try and justify my strange behaviour.

I'm going with Emanations for all the reasons Hux stated. It's just sort of...there. Ex Post Facto is a close second but I think that is because from what I have heard the script was written before the show was even cast. Some consider that a Paris episode. I never did...if anything it was more of a Tuvok episode but whatever. It did have that unusual form of punishment which was mildly interesting so Emanations it is.

I liked Emanations.

I was disappointed by Cathexis. boring, boring, boring and funny when it was meant to be suspenseful. Enter Lt durst who gets a line which means he's about to DIE!!! :P

You make me buy season 1 of the Voyager DVDs, too. Just to complete my collection. But I refrain from doing so, because of the lousy quality of the DVDs. It means throwing money into a toilet bowl (if I only knew where the toilets are aboard Voyager......)

I quite like Cathexis. Crew acting mysteriously as though they've been taken over by an alien. Proper Trek stuff plus a bottle episode. Every time I watch it, I forget Tuvok is the alien.

wow, this is thorough.

Cathexis

I love the episode title, but this type of episode has been done so many times that this time it was just boring.

In terms of a bottom 5 though:

Cathexis
Ex Post Facto (The Dog thing was corny but the punishment was rather interesting)
Emanations (Another boring episode)
Learning Curve (I know there were season 1 episodes left over, so that begs the question, what was the real Season 1 finale)
Prime Factors (That alien leader guy was creepy from the start).

Emanations was one of those episodes I wish I never saw. The tale for me didn't go anywhere, it was very dull and boring. Not interesting in Harry Kim much anyway. Sub Rosa was another episode I felt that way.

I think "Ex Post Facto" was the worst, slightly worse than "Heroes and Demons," the way the mystery developed and was resolved felt really annoyingly forced.

"Emanations" was a little flat but not real bad and "Cathexis" was pretty dumb but fun.

Although I cast my vote, I don't think any VOY episode is bad except FURY.

EMANATIONS was the least good for me in Season 1 because I felt it was too dark for Voyager. Same goes for THE CHUTE in Season 3. I think such episodes would do much better on DS9, which is basically a dark show.
Also, the fact that Janeway nearly gave up searching for Harry was a bit off-putting. She is usually not like that when it comes to her crew.

The best episode in Season One would be - no doubt - CARETAKER for me, closely followed by PRIME FACTORS.

For some reason I like the scene in Cathexsis where Tom punches Harry in the face. I know...it's because Harry was temporarily 'taken over' and I don't hate Harry and really don't have any particularly need to see him beat up but for whatever reason...I like that bit. I also like it when Tuvok puts the phaser on the wide beam setting and everyone goes down.

Ex Post Facto gets my vote. It seems a bit odd to see a tawdry domestic melodrama that primarily takes place in the alien's home on a Trek series. It did establish Tom's bona fides as an inveterate Lothario, I suppose. I think its biggest contribution was to establish the character of Tuvok, P.I., which, of course we saw a number of times over the years. Sorrily , though that didn't prove to be enough. Emanations would trail by a little bit. I did actually find its examination of a culture's after life beliefs and practices to be interesting, but it wasn't a particularly dynamic one.The condemned character's attenuated physique was a bit of a shock to view, but it did accentuate the idea of his having some terminal condition that would warrant being dispatched to that dark cavern. Having spoken about some positives, the episode definitely get dinged by the failure of the bearers to discern the difference in weight and physique between the actual sacrifice and Kim. The latter is clearly not emaciated.

Feces. OK it wasn't THAT bad but I found it the least entertaining and a little bit irritating. For one I don't really care for the Vidiians with their ugly faces and while I like Torres enough I found her two split halves annoying. The human half was a pile of cry and the Klingon half just seemed really cheesy to me. It wasn't played very well in my opinion.

You can't even buy Star Trek in my country - can you imagine that? :wah::wah::wah:
All you are left with is pirate copies ... of the worst quality, of course.
Which means I'd even settle for the DVDs ... Blue ray would be a dream ...
