Would a political event incite you to move?

All true Americans are. The invitation is right on our Statue of Liberty.

As the saying goes, there isn't always someone you want to vote for, but there's usually someone you want to vote against.
Unfortunately, that is the norm rather than the exception.

I might just have to write-in a candidate.

Amen to that, coloratura and teacake! I've experienced a civil war firsthand and wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. Nobody can blame people for running for their lives. Who of us wouldn't do the same?? Being German, I am now for the first time ever proud of my country. What I am not so proud of is the global resurrection of right-wing tendencies which sadly shows very strongly in my own country atm and - no disrespect meant - in the US as well, apparently. When I was in my late teens, I was seriousely considering emigration for political reasons because back then it all started all over again in my country. Now, in my 50s, I think emigration is no solution. I rather stay and stand up for my ideals, i.e. peace, equality and a fair chance for everyone, regardless of religion, gender, age, sexual preferences or country of birth. For everyone left of the right-wing scum, that is... And yes, that last bit may be hypocritical, but I still stick with it, just as I stick with cheering on "Ma Angie", even though I've always been a green/social-democrat voter and she's a christ-socialist.
How completely nuts has the world become if a politician from an opposed party can be better than one's own ones!

Unfortuantly if people believe their voices aren't being heard it can push them more towards the extreme ends of the political spectrum either on the left or right.

No, I would consider that weak. The proper response to your living place well and truly going to hell (not something I foresee in this election cycle, anyway) is to pick up the appropriate tools and fix it. Sometimes that tool is a hammer. Sometimes that tool is a rifle.

Thanks for the info - somehow I thought political topics were relegated to TNZ only. Good to see this isn't the case.

Anyway, when Bush was in office I had looked into a transfer within the company where I worked, to go to the UK office. But, I ended up deciding to stay with the determination to vote in the next election... I was so confident that we'd have a change of president given the insanity that took place with invading Iraq and destabilizing the region. I was aghast at the outcome. I would never renounce my citizenship... just considered being an expatriate for a period of time.

Btw, Canada looks like it has a rather refreshing new Prime Minister. Kind of reminds me of Obama's good qualities, and also his weakest (which was experience).

The refugee flow going on in Europe is scary... I feel bad for those displaced people, but on the other end of it, their large exodus is causing so many difficulties in the nations where they're fleeing to. Never seems to be a clear solution to such problems.

If I thought Canada, Scotland or Ireland would let my useless ass into their countries, I would move in a heartbeat. Alas, people who grade English exams are surprisingly NOT in great demand, nor are hubby's IT skills.Hell, I'd be happy if I could move above the Mason-Dixon line, but since I was dumb enough to marry a Texan, I'm stuck here.

It's all Shaw's fault, {{{{{ auntie }}}}}. Ever since Pygmalion, the whole Commonwealth thinks Americans are unable to speak or write proper English. Admittedly, there is some truth in this opinion, but like all prejudices it doesn't apply to everyone.

No. Even if I was pyshically up to it, which I'm not, it's too much work and I don't have the necessary funds.

The worst part about Canada is that it has no Florida, there is NO SOUTH to go to with beaches. This would slowly kill me. Yeah I know the west coast is a little balmy, but not forever.
