Captain America: Civil War - pre-release discussion, news, rumors, etc

I think the only people at risk of dying in Civil War are Bucky and or Rhodey.

Although I do find it funny that all movies now are addressing the accountability aspect of heroes and the battles they fight.
Bucky and Rhodey are pretty safe. One of them will replace Steve Rogers as Cap and the other will be needed to bolster the ranks with the loss of one or more from Iron Man/Thor/Cap in the next few movies.

Accountability ? It was what the Civil War comics were all about, ten years ago. Not a new idea.

Is it only me that doesn't think the black lines on Spidey's suit are anywhere near bold enough ?

Excellent trailer! Can't wait! Still don't have the slightest clue how they're going to cram in so many characters and storylines into 2.5 hours though. We're going to need to understand the motivation of every single character in choosing their side... Not to mention the introduction of two major new characters spinning off into their own movies!!!

I'd prefer hints of expressions to be applied in post production in a more subliminal way. To all intents and purposes, just a cloth mask, but you would pick up on expressions...

I gather that's sort of what they did in Deadpool, using CGI to give his mask the same cartoonish expressiveness it has in the comics. Which works there since it's a fourth-wall-breaking comedy. This is a more realistic way of doing the same thing.

I always liked how the performer inside the Spidey suit in the '70s TV series exaggerated his head movements and body language to convey expression.

So... I haven't been reading up on this very much, to avoid possible spoilers. Is William Hurt playing General Ross again?

Yes, he is.

And if nothing else, it makes this Spidey a bit different from the others.

Which is no doubt a key part of why they did it. We've already had two pretty authentic versions of the Spider-Man costume in the movies, and Marvel no doubt wanted their Spider-Man costume to be impressively different in some way, but there's not much that can be done to make it fresh while still retaining its classic features. (I wonder if the Stark Spider suit has gliding membranes that extend from the sides like the webbing in the original Ditko costume.)

Spidey looks crappy. Bad cgi, costume is a step backwards after the pitch perfect suit in ASM 2 and what the fuck is with the eyes? Spidey's eye's don't change. When did Black Panther get the ability to run so fast and be bullet proof? He was just a guy in a costume last time I read an adventure with him.

So the best thing about this trailer is that Marvel Studios is finally giving us a film with the tone of a DC film. Their last film that did that, The Winter Soldier, is considered by many to be their best film, it's certainly their most respected film. So this is a plus and it's the tone they should've been taking since day one. I'm tired of jokey films where every hero is spouting snarky quips non-stop with villains I can't take seriously. The downside is that we've seen Marvel heroes fighting in both Avengers 1 and 2, so there's nothing in any of the Civil War trailers so far that has elicited anything other than "meh" and boredom from me.

I think I'm just getting tired of Marvel Studios product, the only thing from them that I'm interested in is Dr. Strange. I'm more excited for BvS and the upcoming X-Men film.

Panther shouldn't be bulletproof, although it's possible he's wearing enough kevlar to take a round or two. But on the running thing, he's not just "a guy in a suit" - he has access to a Wakandan herb that can be distilled into a potion not unlike a temporary version of Cap's super-serum.

Black Panther's suit/armor is made out of Vibranium. The same metal that Captain America's shield is made out of. In the old comics it was just a black suit, like Spider-Mans, but recently (the last 20 years or so) it's been converted into armor. Vibranium is lightweight and impact intolerant, so it makes perfect armor and defensive weapons (Capt's shield).

Compared to something like Adamantium (which coats Wolverine's bones) with is super hard, heavy like normal metal and indestructible. Adamantium is what you use to make weapons. It's not very good armor, unless the person wearing it is super strong.

Panther also uses an herb he coats his body in to give him super abilities, akin to the likes of Captain America, Spider-Man and Daredevill. All native to Wakanda.

Thanks matthunter and M.A.C.O., I figured I'd missed some changes since I last read a story with Black Panther. I imagine they've probably developed Wakanda a lot more as well?

Oh yeah, mate. Wakanda is, I believe one of the most, if not the most advanced countries in the Marvel Universe. Their science and R&D is all based around Vibranium, and is leagues ahead of other countries as a result.

So Mr. Sunday Movies did another 10 Things You Might Have Missed video, and I literally laughed out loud when he pointed out the civilian casualties from all of the Avengers battles in recent movies. I know I've made note that the Avengers had it easy compared to Superman in MOS and the X-Men in DOFP, but this is almost laughably too low and only reaffirms had bad these armies of cannon fodder are at their jobs.

The property damage is through the roof though.

I noticed that this one deemphasized the web lining, which helps make it stand out. TASM1 has weirdly emphasized basketball bumps that I don't get. Otherwise, all of them look like Spider-Man suits so all are pretty cool. I like that this take ends up feeling fresh.

I suspect the CGI will be polished a bit before release because it did look a bit animated in this. But I'm still glad to see it.

Although I do think the highlight was Black Panther. Damn he's going to be fun.

I'm pretty glad we're finally getting a Spidey suit with:

A. Non-raised webbing.
B. The "fat spider" logo on the back.

That said, I've liked every other Spider-suit so far with the exception of Basketball-Man in the first Garfield flick. And it might take me a little while to get used to how tiny the spider is on the front of the MCU one. :)

I don't get why everyone's hanging their head when they're shown the footage of Avengers 1, TWS and AoU. It's like, uh, we saved the world, remember? Your point is? You need to keep that whole saving-the-world thing "in check" for some reason?

Maybe this plays better in context in the released film...

People died. It's not inappropriate to express heartache...especially Wanda, who suffered a personal loss.

Loki, Hydra and Ultron were going to kill a lot more people. What does Anthony Mackie, for example, have to feel bad about?

It feels like this franchise is letting itself be defined by the overreaction to the end of MOS, for some reason.

No one is saying they didn't save a lot of people, only that some people were killed or injured.

The whole argument of whether they should be kept in check or not is kinda the point of the film. ;)
