Agents of SHIELD: Season 3 - Discussion (SPOILERS LIKELY)

Great news. I hope they're more tie-in heavy. Post Winter Soldier, they've been doing pretty much their own thing.

Eep! The Secret Warriors use Jimmy Olsen signal watches!

I like "Yo-Yo." Her power is a clever twist on the speedster paradigm. And it's nice to see more people using their powers for good, as well as the multiculturalism.

Coulson didn't say "Thank you, Mister President" when President Ellis left the room. That's a pretty serious breach of protocol, I think (if years of watching The West Wing taught me anything).

Fine episode.

So it looks like Ward is gone. I figured that slug thing would be Dax-like, where hosts experiences transfer over (so Ward would kinda still be Ward) but it looks like that is not the case. Personally though, I think Monster Ward is a step up from Hydra Ward.

It's also good to see that Talbot is going to play an important role in the near future. I always liked his character.

Lincoln is starting to bug me though. I liked him when he first popped up but he shifted to mistrustful and stayed there. He needs to loosen up.

And he knows what he likes:

Coulson is still awesome.

I like how Daisy's group is shaping up. I like Yo-yo, and the jimmy olsen signal watches (if only they could summon Supergirl away from Earth-whatever and give her some real training).

FitzSimmons will engage in their first Marvel team up. The science duo will get animated for an episode of Disney XD's Ultimate Spiderman this Sunday, Mar 13 @ 10am EST/9am Central.

When the show first started, Coulson was a regular, and I've always imagined how much fun it would be for FitzSimmons to show up for a romp with Spidey. Sadly, Coulson was written out last season, and my hopes were dashed, but now it's happened. The only downside is that the animation for this new season has been dreadful.
But it's gorram FitzSimmons! Teaming up with Spidey. My day has been made. :)

It's a Quinjet catapulted into orbit, Yoyo is onboard.

Likely they find a way to lure "Hive" to it, trap them both, she extends her powers to send it there to blow him up?

Not sure what else we can say at this point.

Here's what Jed and Maurisa have to say about that (and more)...
What can you tell us of this three month time jump? We see someone from S.H.I.E.L.D. is inside a quinjet in space that’s about to explode. There’s a floating necklace, which looks like it belongs to the new Inhuman we meet in the premiere. Tease something!
WHEDON:
We wanted the challenge of painting ourselves into a corner. [Laughs] Obviously we won’t say much about it. The visual is designed to get you asking questions.
TANCHAROEN: We will be peeling back the details and layers of that vision as we go for the back half.

So, we’ll see some more flash forwards to this moment?
TANCHAROEN:
You might.

Are you essentially promising that at least one person will die by season’s end?
WHEDON:
I think that will become clear later in the season what exactly we’re promising, but I don’t think that flash forward bodes well.

I don't think Yo-yo will be sent to space by Shield any time soon. Her powers would be completely useless up there. I can't speculate further than that though. We'll just have to wait and see.

Anyone else notice how sunken Ward/Hive's eyes are and how skull-like they're making him look? I wonder if that's just an aesthetic choice or if there's some significance vis-a-vis Hydra's symbol and maybe even the Red Skull's appearance. Perhaps what Shmidt did to himself wasn't a *total* accident after all..?

Since we see her necklace floating there and only the shoulder patcher of a SHIELD agent, it's almost certainly NOT Yo-Yo (are we really calling her that?) since that kind of thing is almost always a red herring.

I do like how they've changed up the usual speedster formula. Restricting her actions to a single heartbeat before pinging back to where she started is pretty novel and sets up some clear rules to what she can and can't do. Also neatly deals with any issues of inertia that other speedsters never seem to address.
Begs the question though: what if they found a way to slow her heart-rate? Would she be able to go further/faster? What if someone shot her with adrenaline; would she start to vibrate and phase through matter?

You make it sound like she's a brand new character that the writers for the show created. She's been around for almost a decade or so now I think.

I'm aware she's an established character, but I know bog-all about her so I'm discovering her via the show and since I elected not to wiki her, those are the kinds of questions I find myself pondering. Sue me.

Even so, it's not as if they *have* to stick slavishly to the source material. Or did we all forget the time they snuck Daisey "Quake" Johnson into the MCU without anyone noticing until almost the last minute? ;)

She's Yo-Yo Rodriguez. What's wrong with that? Although her codename is usually Slingshot, fwiw.

Anyway, I got the impression that the shuttle scene was actually taking place at some other point in time. It wasn't until they switched from that scene to Earth that they mentioned that it was taking place in the present, which is pretty suspect in and of itself.

By the way, I'm wondering if Hunter's constant complaints about powered people were meant to lay the seeds for his and Bobbi's departure for their spinoff. After all, the team is recruiting more Inhumans, so if Hunter can't get along with powered people, that might lead to a schism. Maybe the idea is for Marvel's Most Wanted to take over being the show about normal humans doing spy/adventure stuff while AoS becomes more superhero-oriented.
