CBS/Paramount sues to stop Axanar

I am talking about things like how Spock is upset that Kirk is dying and calling him a friend but we have seen no friendship. In TWOK we know they're friends. In STID we are told they are but see no evidence. Things like that.

I disagree. I do think we are seeing the beginnings of a budding friendship. You can become emotionally attached to someone in a short time. And, lets face it, Spock was having a bad year. Lost his planet, his mother and that would push the emotional buttons of anyone. Then he's forced to watch someone die that he was getting close to.

Vonda McIntyre's novelization did a great job of addressing most of those plot holes.

But back to Axanar, would you believe they released another podcast this morning? When they first got sued I stupidly assumed that they'd stop making and widely distributing audio recordings of of their intent to make money by infringing on CBS/Paramount IP, but I see now that I was a fool.

1. The Enterprise (at Earth) is the closest ship to Regula.
2. The Enterprise (crewed by cadets, trainees, and instructors) is the best choice for the mission.
3. The senior staff of the Enterprise was re-assigned en mass to be instructors.
4. The Reliant's sensors seem to be totally useless.
5. The crew of this ship don't notice there's a missing planet.
6. Yada yada Khan knows Chekov.

And that's just the beginning.

Yeah, I always wondered for starters why the flagship of the fleet was tasked with being a training ship? Is there a history of that in the military? Doesn't seem like the best use of resources. I know, plot contrivances, and all that, but for the story it didn't even seem terribly necessary.

They're gearing up for a World Tour. They obviously have no common sense.

We are also left to assume that the "friendship" to this point happened between films. We are given glimpses of this in the opening sequence when there is a real rapport between them that feels like good friends. Whether you bought it or not is certainly subjective, but without 3 seasons of a show and one movie before it, it's hard to really establish the same level of friendship you had by TWOK.

They have to keep up appearances. Their loyal fans need to know everything is going to be alright.

I still to this day am quite grateful (as I am sure Pavel Chekov is) that Kirk is such an expert marksman. The good admiral basically aims his phaser (set to vaporize!!) right at Chekov's fucking head when he fries the Ceti eel.

This is awesome to me for two reasons:

1) We could easily have wound up with Chekov's smoking head
2) It ties in nicely with Kirk's trolling comment to Khan ("like a poor marksman, you keep... missing... the... target!")

What about it doesn't make much sense?

"You lie! On Ceti Alpha V, there was life! A fair chance–"
"THIS IS CETI ALPHA V!!! Ceti Alpha VI exploded six months after we were left here. The shock shifted the orbit of this planet and everything was laid waste..."

The sensible suggestion is that 6 no longer was present as a concentrated mass in the system. There could have been some sort of resonance relationship that shepherded 5 over long periods, but the script says the 'shock of the explosion' caused the shift. The only thing that could have reached ceti alpha 5 from an explosion was debris or radiation, not some sort of 'shock wave', except for perhaps the insanely difficult to even measure gravity wave. If debris large enough to change the orbit of 5 hit it, the surface would have been liquified. if radiation arrived, it wouldn't meaningfully change the orbit.

planets aren't billiard balls in physics.

The only way I could see this happening is if 6 'exploded' like a rocket, sending most of its mass on a slow, close pass to 5, and slingshotting 5. but again, I would imagine this might deform 5 so much that it would break up the crust.

Wouldn't really imagine any survivors of a planet 'shifting its orbit' due to an external force over a short time.

Oh yeah, it's a good, fun movie...but it doesn't make much sense.

Not to mention we never get a single face to face confrontation between Kirk and Khan. I never realized that until someone pointed it out on TV or in a movie, and now it does take my opinion of the movie down a bit. At least we got some face to face confrontations between Khan and Kirk, and Khan and Spock in STiD.
They're gearing up for a World Tour. They obviously have no common sense.
I skipped a few pages so I missed the announcement of this World Tour. What is it exactly?

Get to eat with Peters and, presumably, write him a check. First stop is somewhere in Arizona.

LMAO..........Lord Alec further proves just how full of it he is starting at 5:43.........(where I believe he refers to @jespah too, not certain on that though)

You didn't see any friendship?

Re: Into Darkness. The films works. I quite enjoy it. Burnett spoiled some of it on his Twitter feed in the weeks leading up to the release, which royally pissed me off and has, admittedly, put me into less of a disposition to sympathize with his current plight, but once I got over the spoilers, and actually watched the film for what it is, I quite liked it.

Re: Axanar podcasts: There were at least 36 or 37 of those things on iTunes the last time I checked. (I downloaded them all for future reference. Clearly I need to go grab the latest one, lol)

I haven't had a chance to listen to it yet but has Peters followed Burnett's shameless glomming on to the success of the completion, release and positive reception of Horizon in it?
