I wonder if the release of the script - or at least a version of it - will be a bigger blow to Alec's ego that the law suit. For so long he has been trumpeting how amazing this film is going to be, and wouldn't it be a hoot if a goodly chunk of his devoted fans were turned off when they realized just how terrible his script is?
No. It doesn't matter. At this point, anyone who still #standswithAxanar is clearly not doing so on any sort of rational basis. They're True Believers. Even if the script makes Waterworld look like Citizen Kane, it won't make a difference.
They'll simply assert that it really is that good. Or say that it's only a first draft and this is why they rewrote it, and of course we haven't seen the latest rewrite. Or, depending on what Alec Peters says about it, deny that it's even real, saying the leaker made it up to make him look bad. Or refuse to read it on that basis. Or say every script gets rewrites and it's unfair to look at a script draft from over a year ago- heck, early Star Wars (1977) drafts were pretty weak. Or say that the lawsuit interfered with the latest rewrite and you can't judge because it isn't finished yet.
Point is, ultimately this no longer about the facts. We're all haters and anything we say is part of the larger anti-Axanar conspiracy and therefore is to be denigrated and ignored. Unfortunately this mindset is not limited to Axanar- you see it with political figures of both parties, anti-science debates, 9/11 conspiracy theorists, whatever. If it doesn't agree with their viewpoint, they simply ignore it.
I learned this lesson the hard way when, back in the day, I had the unusual hobby of debating Apollo hoaxers on the wonderful Bad Astronomy website. i found that every time you have a new fact to bring to the debate, you think, "yes! This is irrefutable! Now I will win the argument!" And-yes! You are right! It is irrefutable! What you quickly learn is, unfortunately, because the people debating you have not reached their position by any sort of logical fact-based approach to begin with, you can't "convince" then using facts. They simply refuse to acknowledge them. You can't win because they're not even playing by the same rules you are. It's exactly the same thing here.
I'm lazy so I will copy and paste from FB
So let's get this straight:
4) The script - according to the MTD - CANNOT be the final version, and therefore is not official, protected by any copyright or trademark, and at best is just a rough outline of ideas. Any other classification of this leaked script would reveal that the MTD was just a fancy time waster.
There's an updated timeline of the case at the AxaMonitor wiki tracking the lawsuit.Checking in.Would anyone care to give me a recap of where things stand?
Sorry, Allyn, but you can't claim copyright on a work that is derivative from someone else's copyright.Actually, the draft script would be protected by copyright, simply by existing (even though it does contain the copyrighted material of others), and Alec Peters and his cowriters could justly claim that their copyrights are being violated by its unauthorized distribution.
My unsolicited advice to the person who has the leaked script is not to quote from it at all. Summarize it, review it, whatever. But don't quote any of Peters' material, just to be safe. Or, safer, anyway.

Have they actually had the gonads to file for a copyright on Axanar, and was it granted by the US Copyright Office? I doubt both.........Sorry, Allyn, but you can't claim copyright on a work that is derivative from someone else's copyright.
