The Colony - USA Network

So, tell me more about the Arrival, and whoever these Hosts are. And the Factory.

Apparently Snyder can leave the Block and report to one of his superiors at some sort of standard-looking capitol or office building. We heard something about New York this week, as if that's where the bosses are. We also heard a conspiracy theory that this is some sort of coup that some powerful people and parts of the government have been planning for some time.

Apparently Snyder's immediate superior lives just a few miles outside of the wall on the California coast? Did I interpret that scene correctly?

I'm finding it hard to believe that humans did this. They couldn't have built those walls so quickly and easily. At least not modern day humans.

We've had the theory that they're all in the future, just locked inside the bubble of the Los Angeles block, but now that we've seen outside the walls a few times, that doesn't seem to be the case. It doesn't look like the future. The theory that the Hosts are humans from the future still seems possible. They would have the capability to use all those drones and make the wall. Maybe the earth is so screwed up in the future, that the only place the future humans could escape to was the past, and they decided to try to change the past along the way, so humanity wouldn't screw up the earth so much anymore.

The satellite phones are obviously a hint. Perhaps a hint that everything we've been told is true after all. I kind of like not knowing for sure. It kind of puts us in the same shoes as Will and Katie, where we're just not quite sure about which side is right and which side is wrong. How much of what Snyder told Katie this week was true? All of it? None of it? And was Snyder initially taking Will to meet that yoga lady who's his superior?
The only problem is that Snyder said that meeting the Hosts was a humbling experienced that made the universe feel smaller. If they were just humans from the future, I don't see why that would make the universe feel smaller. At best, they'd have to be from another dimension, though the implication from the start has been that it was an alien encounter and everything has been reinforcing that (despite the producers offering alternative ideas to the contrary; but fuck them and their lying asses -- I'll never believe a single thing another director, producer, or star has to say regarding mysteries on a show or movie ever again. If they don't want to spill the beans, just say nothing, dammit.).

The tutor lady is seriously creepy.

Also when Snyder is asked what is in between the colonies he says that they don't want to know, as if it's horrible. But the empty city with warehouses of food isn't really horrible.. as in, why not just say "nothing, it's empty"?

We don't know where that warehouse is, though.

We learned there are 7 colonies along the Pacific coast. How big a colony is, we don't know. Each colony is subdivided into blocks. The Los Angeles Colony is subdivided into the Los Angeles block and the Santa Monica block. Travel between the blocks is restricted and monitored. Travel between colonies is completely prohibited.

We also learned one other thing...we learned that the "hosts" knew everything about Earth. They knew who everyone was and knew exactly who would be out into what positions as soon as they invaded.

I also find it interesting that they call the invaders "hosts" which suggests that we are THEIR guest. (Side note: it's also an interesting reversal of the Visitors from V).

Here I are my guesses on the possible nature of the "Hosts"

1. They are super advanced dinosaurs that survived the comet impact 60 million years ago and are back to reclaim their homeworld. It's worth noting that the symbol of the Transitional Authority is a Raptor (which is why they are called Raps). That would also explain why they are called hosts since this is technically their planet and they were clearly here first. Thus the Colonies are simply nature preserves. A way of keeping the population under control. My be they are terraforming or restoring the planet to an earlier state.

2. The hosts are Gods of some sort. They put us here and have decided that we needed to be brought under control. that would explain why they seem omniscient and knew everything about us. The factory could be some form of hell.

3. Parallel Universe. They are us...only a version where things went horribly wrong and the hosts are trying to fix the problem.

Yes they call themselves "hosts" I would assume as only the higher ups whose job it is to keep spewing the propaganda call them that? So at some point they said "we are your hosts" probably many some points.

That dinosaur theory is great!

Of course they could be a super race of any kind that considers any planet it takes theirs, the whole galaxy theirs just because they can.

I get the impression that, since the old woman died during the Arrival, that the Arrival was an event or a period of time. Further, since they have a database containing all digital information from the start of the digital age up to the Arrival attests to some form of advanced power or technology. It seems that digital data from humanity stopped at the Arrival.

I think the high speed Rolodex output that they had to print out was another hint related to the Host's different perception of time. Apparently, the Hosts would have no problems absorbing the reams of information that the humans had to print out in order to comprehend. Perhaps the manner in which Snyder was humbled by the Hosts was their ability to process and use information?

It makes me wonder if the Hosts are actually robotic, or AIs that control the robots? Perhaps the factory is producing more? Although, it is hard to understand how humans could help in an advanced automated production process.

Mr Awe

Remember how the captured humans had to be cleaned before they saw the aliens?

Clean rooms are required for super technology, so that is possible.

I'm wondering what we're not seeing as far as the apparent respect, awe, worship.. that some humans have for them. I realize some people will always get desperate and make up stories to themselves to gild their cage. But it hasn't been that long and yet we have the cult talking about this being human destiny and plenty of others apparently "humbled" by the hosts. But what did they actually bring that people are happy about? Everyone's life is shittier and the folk in the Green Zone, all they have is the upper middle class stuff that was available before but with a heap more restrictions.

There is not a single person in these colonies who would not have people they lost via no contact because of the geographic seclusion they now all live under. Every single person will have people they have no idea what happened to. And yet some are happy to serve the hosts, get extra rations etc.. I dunno.

Let's assume that the remaining humans know that 3 billion plus humans have been removed.

It's almost a year later, and it's just about have a couple eggs every day.

So how did you get to LA?

They relocated me.

So we're not the only colony.

There are others.

How many?

The Pacific Coast region... California, Oregon, and Washington... has seven colonies. But beyond that, I meant it when I said I have no idea.

What about all the land between the colonies? What's out there?

That's somewhere you do not want to be.

Why? What's the...

Regular people have never seen the aliens.

Regular people know nothing about the Aliens.

All people continue as nearly unobstructed zoo specimens until the aliens kill them all, or leave.

How the humans "govern themselves" inside each zone is I suspect completely each human who they put in charges decision, and everything is fine so long as order is maintained and no one migrates between zones.

We don't know what they want.

Something happens at the "factory".

Lasers are used to propel "something" into at least orbit. (This is real/theoretical tech)

Telescopes are outlawed.

Synder (lower, lower , lower middle management) was approached to lead, before the invasion, so it's possible that although not contacted directly, that the residents of the green zone were chosen years before the invasion as the most likely to acclimatize to the new world order and collaborate.

A cult could easily spring up around worship of alien invaders.

Not all religions worship peaceful, benevolent gods.

Even today so-called religious leaders claim natural disasters that kill people are the will of God. People swallow this lie all the time and keep sending their money to their favored televangelist,.

I suspect some people are benefiting from the Arrival just as some people's lives improved under Nazi and Soviet rule. All forms of government and occupation have appealed to someone other than the invaders.

So they took a whole lot of folk and assigned them new jobs initially as part of their grand plan.. the blonde cop used to run a dating agency and now she's super NCIS person. I guess the Green Zone is full of people who lived much simpler lives who suddenly got told "you're good at this prestigious thing we're getting you to do and here is your big house a movie star used to live in".

I thought he was approached after the invasion. Doesn't Sawyer say "BEFORE?!" as if this is super new info and Snyder corrects him and tells him no, it was after.

Sorry. I'm stupid. You're smart. I was wrong. You were right. You're the best. I'm the worst. You're very good-looking. I'm not attractive.

So that was a bit meh, the resistance should get its shit together.

Yes it's hopeless.

Go out in a meaningful way, not shot in the back defecting.

I like the telescope/tunnel b story..

It took 4 seasons for the Resistance in Falling Skies to Figure out that the aliens were living on the moon.

Noah Wyle's JFK impersonation was indelibly bad.

"We choose... To go to... The Moon!"

I enjoyed that one. Some unexpected surprises and revelations. The factory is on the moon! And, I wonder if the man coughing up the blood was growing an alien or something inside of him? The invaders are referred to as "the Hosts" but I wonder if the humans are really serving as "the hosts" for some aliens that grow in them?

The Raps.

Apparently the Arrival or subsequent activities damaged that building in the background when Quayle was calling from the payphone.

We have an interesting dichotomy going on, probably more due to production limitations than intent. Electricity is as plentiful as today in LA. The Bowmans have no problem burning as many lights as they probably did before the arrival. Where does this electricity come from? Likewise with the beer in capped bottles, or the alcohol at the Yonk. None of this looks like home distillery alcohol or bottling. On the other hand we're led to believe food and medicine is rationed and in limited supply, however that party at the Yonk seemed to not want for any supplies one would find at an LA bar nowadays.

We still don't know if the hosts are true aliens. Of course the lasers on the drones and the Moonbase could point to that. Thing is, both the drones and moonbase look man made. I wonder what those big tanks on the moon that the workers are working on are? The other thing that is very impressive is that not even one year has passed yet and we have these super walls already up, that is a major feet of engineering. Would love to see a flashback story of the 'Arrival'. The drama and the cat and mouse games also are enjoyable in this show, it has grown on me.

The width of the wall, if it went up over night, could only have been done by someone with way better tech than us, and it's seems there's a laser fence on top of the wall, well there's something up there glowing that you can only see in the dark.
