CBS/Paramount sues to stop Axanar

There are a ton of questions about what that donor money paid for.

His alleged car? The IMDb subscription? SAG dues? What else did Darth Garth appropriate donated funds for? I am sincerely hoping Loeb & Loeb push to get a legit accounting of where all the money went.

I would love to go to several ST conventions on someone else' money! Can I start a Kickstarter program for that?

That's not verified, by the way. The source of that is not solid (it's not clear that he is, in fact, saying those words). And I was told indirectly that this is nothing more than rumor generated by hopeful fans.

It does seem a bit early for there to be a casting short list. We're still eleven months from the premiere.

And even if you listen to the podcast, he's talking about the fact that he doesn't believe they would even be casting until the fourth quarter of this year .. like October.

So I tried to listen to hear the line that the interviewer in the podcast interpreted as "you're on the shortlist?" .. but the context of that conversation and what Tony said after it doesn't support it.

So to be honest, I feel that outlets reporting on this story are premature, and maybe a little reckless. Sorry, T'Bonz! :D

Thank you!!! I'd been saying that too. Seemed more like clickbait to me. Frankly, i'd be surprised if they're far enough along to even think about casting at all, considering they only just hired a showrunner less than two weeks ago.

Since we've started airing our dirty laundry in this thread, it's time I confess to being "John Carter" at TrekMovie, and questioned the Marc Cushman books when the season 3 Kickstarter (run by Axanar Productions) was announced. Here is an interaction I had with Alec.

In it he states, "When you actually reveal your true identity and actually show that you have accomplished anything in your life, then maybe people who have great reputations in Star Trek like Mr. Cushman and myself, people who have actually had a positive impact on this fandom, who have actually PRODUCED things people love, well, maybe the we will take you seriously." which is customary behavior for Alec. So anyway, here are some things I've produced that people love.

Star Trek: The Original Series Soundtrack Collection - Like Peters, I've had my name in Variety, but in my case it was because I was interviewed about this set.

I've also been involved with the soundtrack re-issues for the first 10 Star Trek movies. I was an editor on II, III, IV, VI and FC and I got "Production Assistance" credit on TMP, V, GEN, INS, and NEM. I've also been involved with the TNG and DS9 album re-issues in various capacities. More Trek projects are currently in the works.

And while I'm not a Bad Robot employee, I can be seen in the 2009 film as a very old cadet (as I like to put it).

See that guy in the first row of cadets just behind the bald man? That's me. Cadet M52 (as my paperwork stated). I was on set for all of the trial stuff and the promotion stuff at the end. Nimoy was on set in full make-up this day and was kept a secret until JJ surprised us after lunch with his reveal. A few days before this we were in Tustin filming the hangar sequence. A few months later we filmed exteriors in Northridge of us walking around outside Starfleet Academy.

So that's my Star Trek resume up until now. I've been at this successfully for several years now Mr. Peters, all of it official and licensed. Can you or Mr. Cushman make that claim?

Neil

You don't look old ...

Very cool. :techman:

No, they will be casting, building sets and shooting soon. They have to be to make that January 2017 first episode premier date on network TV and then online. 10 - 13 episodes especially for a scifi show take a very long time to do. They'll be streaming all episodes all at once like Netflix and Amazon. It'll be too stupid not to use the online model that everyone loves.

Mic drops!

If you look at the production schedules of previous Trek series it might give some sense of the time frames involved. Unless the plan is to shoot a season and release it all at once as is done with some streaming shows now - and that's unlikely, IMO - they probably won't start shooting until late summer.

TNG was casting in spring of 1987 for a production start in July.

I'd assume a weekly model, considering that it seems CBS wants a flagship-type show to promote their streaming service, they don't want people to sign up, binge-watch over a couple of days and then cancel right afterwards.

Bryan Fuller signed on in February, 2016. This much we know. He's probably nailing down a character roster and series concept over the next few weeks/months. They'll certainly be eying key talent at the same time but no offense to Todd he doesn't strike me as the kind of series lead they'd be zero-ing in on before a character list is set.

My guess is they'll start casting in April/May and begin shooting in June, with the main leads announced just before shooting, and supporting cast being unveiled throughout the summer. It would not surprise me if Todd is involved in some manner, but the idea that he's on a short list for a major role as early as February?

That would really surprise me.

I doubt very much Star Trek is or will be the only original series they'll be releasing when this CBS online gets started.

Exactly my thinking too. Casting in April/May and begin shooting in June. The timing of Bryan Fuller coming on pushed everything back because I think there may have been some problems finding a show runner. I don't think there were that many people anxious to do Star Trek. Also, many of the fan favorites writers/executive producers all have their own show or shows they are currently running. Even Brannon Braga got a show or two. Despite what people may think of him for his contribution to Star Trek, he can write things outside of Star Trek. 24 and Salem are prime examples. He was also heavily involved in that 13 parts Cosmos: A Space Odyssey series on FOX back in 2014.

Yeah, I'm with DRT. I believe you will see them release this weekly, like Hulu does. Remember, CBS does not have major plans quite yet to offer other original programming on the platform, so they can't do a one-time dump like Netflix does, which has other programs to keep you subscribed throughout the year.

But I do agree with you on the timetable. I believe we'll start seeing casting by the beginning of summer.

What are you basing this on?

I don't think there were that many people anxious to do Star Trek.

Once again, what are you basing this on? I can probably name 10 people I know personally in Hollywood (who have great credits to their name) who would've killed to do the next Trek series. And two of them aren't even Trek fans.

Also, many of the fan favorites writers/executive producers all have their own show or shows they are currently running. Even Brannon Braga got a show or two.

I'm sorry, but I can guarantee you that Braga was not even considered. Not that he is a bad producer or writer ... but you don't evolve the franchise by bringing back the old showrunner that you unceremoniously dumped during the run of your last series.
