CBS/Paramount sues to stop Axanar

Actually, I have always imagined script coordinator for Jane the Virgin to be the toughest job in Hollywood. This is a legitimate thought that has crossed my mind while watching / hearing about Jane the Virgin.

Kudos. Sorry you got doxxed, though.

Thanks. And you'd be right about Jane. I was only there for ten episodes, but it was an incredibly challenging job, with many moving parts and facets of each script/episode to keep track of, much more so than any other show I'd worked on before or since. Entirely worthwhile though, because it's a fantastic show and one I'm very proud to have been a part of, even if for a short time. :)

As for Alec doxxing me, I was a little annoyed when it happened and rather surprised he "went there" but after a moment and a deep breath, I basically landed on feeling like this:

"A true victory is to make your enemy see they were wrong to oppose you in the first place. To force them to acknowledge your greatness."

There's an old saying, "show me, don't tell me." He's not forcing anyone to do squat by simply calling them a loser.

Do we know for a fact that this is Peters himself, and not just one of his worshippers? If it's somebody who thinks that honestly, then I can just roll my eyes, but if he's saying that about himself, then it's kind of sickening.

As I stated above:

After board member "Loken" (Alec Peters) was given the boot from TrekBBS back in May. 2014, a new board member "Red Omega" surfaced here with a similar writing style and similar agenda to "Loken." However, it was a different IP address from "Loken's."

Several months later, we ran another IP address check on "Red Omega." He had, at some point, begun using the same IP address as "Loken" had been using. So "Red Omega" was given the boot, too, from TrekBBS in October of 2015.

I can't speak informedly about other sites, but for TrekBBS, "Loken" and "Red Omega" were both Alec Peters.

I would think that the Axanar folks would have fallen all over themselves to take advantage of any settlement offer, but as per usual I underestimated their hubris and pig-headedness.

It seems a lot of the donors are still in anti-JJ mode. I can understand this of itself, but not failing to realize by now that the vehicle they've boarded is not going where its sign says.

And exactly like Propworx. He's the scorpion who stings the frog so they both drown.

I think that between all the auctions and ebay sales he did manage to get at least a couple thousand items into the hands of fans, which is a lot of work. Stiffing MGM and (sound familiar?) saying its not wrong because MGM was itself bankrupting, no justification I can see.

I have another technical question. They're talking about specifying which episodes/movies the infringed material came from, would that be just their first appearance or every appearance? Would they have to list every appearance of a Klingon or Vulcan, or just Errand of Mercy and whatever episode they want to use as the first appearance of Vulcans?

Generally copyright comes from the first notice and that's all you need - but if you look up the CBS/Paramount copyrights, you'll see they hold tons of 'em - go here - http://cocatalog.loc.gov/cgi-bin/Pwebrecon.cgi?DB=local&PAGE=First and type Star Trek into the Other Search Options search box. I'll wait. ;)

PS You'll do better searching under Star Trek rather than Garth simply because any searches for Garth will bring up IP owned by Garth Brooks.

Let's not forget, he also posted here as "Linnear" as well.

Again, if the case goes forward, I do think the Judge will grant an injunction for the length of the trial. That said, I'm not a Judge or a lawyer, but as someone whop works with Judges; most cut through legal BS pretty quick, and most don't care for lawyers who try to argue every single small technicality they can find. They are there to adjudicate - and they just want the facts of the case to render a decision.
Indeed. And this judge by reputation keeps things running; he doesn't like obvious delaying tactics. http://bit.ly/axajudge

There's two things I would like to know but don't know if we can ever find the answers to:

1. Was donor money used in any way for the Woodland Terrace purchase?

2. Were all the funds that initially went into the Propworx bank account from Kickstarter transferred in their entirety to Axanar's bank account?
I think CBS/Paramount would have to explicitly make the crowdfunding proceeds an issue in order to be able to go down that rabbit hole. And they would have to allege in what way the manner in which financial transactions were conducted are materially related to the copyright infringement at the heart of the legal complaint.

Only obvious to the ignorant and uneducated. Mockumentary has never meant "funny." I talked about this about a hundred pages ago. Even parody and satire need not be humor-based.
Parody, satire, etc. are all forms of humor. They don't have to be "ha ha" funny. But serious is not parody, satire, etc., either. Prelude was definitely serious. I think the plaintiffs would use the "reasonable person" standard to satisfy their allegation that Prelude was not a parody, or even close.

In a forum from about 5 years ago he claimed he sold his previous business for 16 MILLION DOLLARS.

If he did, which is a huge "if", he's likely wasted it all or else he wouldn't need to pay himself $38,000 for working on a fan film.

I remember seeing that here, or some claim he made about "being a millionaire" ... but just the other day I saw a screenshot from some other forum where he revealed he also hadnt been able to keep much of that $16 million for some reason.

I don't know. The guy is so full of contradictions and propaganda about himself, it's hard to know what's really true.

If only there were a word for the kind of person who doesn't tell the truth...
