That was always my hope for Shipp as well, and thought it was a huge missed opportunity back in S1, but the Jay we've gotten has really grown on me, and looks great in the costume. My thought is that they are doing the Malcolm Thawne/Barry Allen separated at birth storyline, but with Jay and Hunter. That would make who we think is Jay, Hunter 2, with Jay 2 in the mask. Well's knew Jay on Earth 2 and they had issues with each other, so unless Wells has also been lying about that (which there is no reason to, now that he has Jesse back and Wells is no longer working for Zoom) then the Jay we are seeing has to at least *look* proper.
Not being familiar with the character of Zoom from the comics, somebody pointed out an aspect of that character that may be important:
He's not a true speedster, he manipulates time in a way that makes him appear to be traveling at super-speed.
That opens up the possibility that Zoom really can appear to be in two places at once...which means that he could really be Hunter Zolomon, the Earth-1 counterpart of Jay Garrick...and that he's been posing as Jay to infiltrate Team Flash.
Reading up on the character, I also learned about Inertia, a reverse version of Impulse who (a) was Hunter Zolomon's protege, and (b) got his powers from Velocity 9. If Zoom and Team Flash's Jay are two different people after all, then it seems like "Jay" might possibly be Hunter Zolomon while Zoom is someone else...and is filling Intertia's role.
Either way, I definitely think that the guy in the iron mask is the real Jay Garrick from Earth-2.

Then he would be the worst dad ever! Gets out of jail after 15 years and ditches the dutiful son, and Instead of tapping out his own name, he taps out someone else's after watching his Barry get the snot kicked out of him.
Now my theories are always wrong and I too believe that the shot of the back of the neck is the actor playing Jay. In my story, Zoom (Henry earth 2) replaced Henry (earth 1) in jail before Barry got him sprung.
If he's not a speedster - how does he run up buildings?
Not to mention the fact that Caitlyn has studied Jay's cells and should have noticed if he had some completely different power.
My theory: Jay Garrick is Zoom. He's jumping at will between worlds and has such mastery of his body he can fool all of the medical scans. Why has he been hanging out with our characters? To get Caitlin to develop Velocity-9 and make him even faster. Why didn't Zoom kill Killer Frost when he killed anyone else? Because he's sweet on Caitlin-1 and didn't want to kill Caitlin-2. Why did the hooded man tap out "Jay"? He was trying to say "Jay Garrick is Zoom". How did we see Zoom's first appear through Jay's chest to drag him back into the portal? The being in two places at once vibrational trick. They hang a lantern on it earlier when Caitlin tells Jay he can't be in two places at once. Why did he pick that time to get 'abducted'? Because Caitlin made Velocity-9 for him.
He's had no power on Earth-1, except when he was using one of Caitlin's drugs.
I could have sworn the masked man was a black dude in that earlier shot too, but then the back of his neck was white. Of course, it could be different stand-ins. In the movie Zodiac, for instance, a different actor plays the masked killer each attack/possible attack, and the actor who played the prime suspect never played the masked killer.
... And wow, for as fun an episode as that was (incensed milquetoast Barry-2 was a riot - "I'm going to have words with him and ask him what the heck is going on!"), this masked man thing is a totally gripping mystery. I was on Team Arrow out of loyalty last season, but there's no doubt in my mind that Flash S2 so far is at least as good as Arrow S1-2, and definitely better than Arrow S3-4.

I hope we see Barry 2 again. I really liked how Gustin played him, and how he did matter in the end. It was also a sweet message that you don't need to be special to make a difference. I thought he wouldn't work, but by the end, I totally bought his character.
If Jay is a baddie, or Zoom's speed has to be put into a new person, or the speed turns into a bomb that'll blow up the city, Team Flash will try to put it in Barry 2, miss and Iris 2 winds up as the Flash of Earth 2.

If she gets Zoom's excess speed energy, we'd have a legit reason to have XS on screen. Which doesn't really make a good speedster name on its own, so never got why the comic character came up with it... But would work for this reason.
I just got caught up on the latest few episodes. Great stuff! Can't wait to find out if the man in the mask is actually Jay Garrick.
