Spoilers The Flash - Season 2

Dark Knights and Men of Steel aren't necessarily references to Batman and Superman in universe, just a wink to the fans.
Uh, you can keep trying to say that as much as you want, but it doesn't make it so. Those are direct titles and synonyms of very specific characters, not general phrases that could apply to just anyone. There is zero ambiguity there. Zero.

I saw:

A man in a domino mask and hood (maybe Green Arrow, but it seemed more blue)
A version of the Flash
Supergirl!!!!!!
A man in a wide-brimmed hat, pointing a revolver
Grodd roaring
And... a Legion flight ring.

And yes, I went back and double-checked that last one.

That was Jonah Hex with the hat and gun.

I wonder if they might be hints to future stories or just Easter eggs

After a life time of reading comics, I know what they are. I'm also a realist. Batman and Superman seem to be "off limits" in the DCW, so the best the writers can do is a winking reference to the characters. Reading more than that into it is wishful thinking. Flash and Green Arrow are more or less the analogs of Superman and Batman in the DCW-verse.

The footage of John Wesley Shipp is from that show's Pilot. For some reason it was flipped, reversed logo.... Probably a mistake or not?

The issue of whether Barry knows of Superman is bound to come up on the Supergirl episode. It will be revealing if he has never heard of Krypton or Kara's cousin. Curious if at the least National City exists on his Earth.

I didn't go back and confirm, but Alt-Barry's phone might have some Easter egg names on it.

Also I could be wrong, but I think the Green Arrow in the stream was black. Connor Hawke?

That was really from the '90s series? Gee, I was just thinking the other day about whether that show could be treated as an alternate Earth within the multiverse established herein. This could be taken as evidence that it is.

So... anyone have any thoughts about the rest of the episode? Kind of odd that Barry just kidnapped his counterpart and knocked him out. At least he could've explained the situation, gotten his cooperation, and gotten a briefing on the details of his life before trying to impersonate him. Still, there were some nice moments, especially the talk with his mom.

And it was fun that they used this opportunity to bring Deadshot back from the dead -- and make him a terrible shot. And Reverb was interesting. Somehow Carlos Valdez's performance reminded me of Craig Charles as an alternate Dave Lister from Red Dwarf (I'm not sure which alternate -- there were several).

I'm really, really glad they didn't follow through on Iris-2's sexual invitations to Barry-1. I hated it when Deep Space Nine's Sisko slept with Mirror-Universe Dax (and Kira!) while pretending to be his counterpart. Impersonating someone's lover to have sex with them is called rape by fraud, and it's a crime. So I'm really relieved they avoided that here.

I wonder who that'll turn out to be in the metal mask in Zoom's cell.

So, the 1990 series joins the ever expanding Arrowverse. Tina McGee, The Trickster and Bellows can now be considered Earth-1 counterparts. I wonder what they'll do with Alex Désert if he ever guest stars.
