The X-Files : Season X (Spoilers!)

Not a fan of "Home Again". First of all, the second I saw that title, and that it was by Glen Morgan, I got super excited for a sequel to "Home". About five minutes into the episode I realized I was in for a crushing disappointment.

The entire dying mother subplot was a massive bummer... I'm guessing this is all leading to them finding their son in the finale. And the homeless tulpa story was just very... there. And Mulder and Scully do absolutely nothing to affect the story. If they had been there or not every single event would have turned out the same. Also, Mulder doesn't believe in tulpas? Season Six "Arcadia" was about them fighting a tulpa!!!

Just watched 4 straight episodes.

Decent, but nothing special. Though I LOVED the werelizard episode.

Reading through a few random pages of the thread, I'll agree with whoever said that it felt like just watching re-runs of some old episodes. There seems to have been little or no effort to bring it into the "modern" age of tv shows. I know some folks here aren't big fans of Breaking Bad or Daredevil type of shows, but with only a 6-episode order, it shouldn't have been that hard to come up with a story that was worthy of 6 episodes. Instead we're getting some minor 2-episode (?) conspiracy angle that is sure to pale in comparison to something like Mr Robot's brilliant paranoid conspiracy or even the likes of HYDRA. Plus some heavy hints about a son named William that pretty much no one cares about.

I'll certainly watch the final 2 episodes, but if they bring it back again next season, I hope there's something a bit stronger or deeper on the story front.

The only thing I liked about this most recent episode was Mulder's "I don't do stairs anymore" bit. Otherwise, pretty dull.

Wow. Reading everyone's mainly positive comments about the series is making me realize that my tastes must have changed dramatically since the original series ended. I have only liked one out of the four episodes. I will finish this series, but I'm not sure that I will return for more.

This makes me sad. The series meant so much to me in its original run. I even found things to like about the final 2 seasons, but this series just isn't speaking to me at all.

Don't blame yourself. It's tv that has changed. Television shows can do so much more now than they could last century. Does every show have to have a grand character arc like Breaking Bad or Mr Robot? No, of course not. I still get a guilty pleasure out of watching Law & Order SVU every week, but we expect the shows at the top of the pile to have a strong cohesiveness and unifying theme throughout. And many expected/hoped X-Files would be in the upper ranks. But its not. It's only theme is "hey everyone, remember The X-Files?"

That said, I feel like I'm being way too harsh. I don't hate it or anything. I guess I just had higher expectations. Just looking at new shows from the past 365 days, it pales in comparison to Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Mr Robot, Humans, The Expanse, Ash vs Evil Dead, and surely many others. (I still have to get around to watching The Man in the High Castle.) And it's nowhere near as globally ambitious as even something like Sense8. I had some serious issues with that show, but at least it aimed high.

Man Anderson can play emotion really really well. Once again I marvel at her portrayal of Scully and the scene at the end was really nice. Didn't like the trash man storyline (I thouht it was going to be scarier) but the stuff with Margret and William was well done.

I think her "you're responsible" accusation was pointed more at herself in that scene. She follows it with:

"You put it out of sight so it wouldn’t be your problem, but you’re just as bad as the people that you hate."

Her comment here can be seen as talking about her decision to give William up, with a strong dash of self-loathing thrown in.

Sure, I just found it it a weird juxtaposition thematicaly. We come to the realization that we have to take responsibility and not simply put things out of sight and ignore them, next we see of the guy is him packing his bags, literally walking away... well it's not a biggie, just seemed a bit inconsistent to me.

I'm really enjoying this season. The X-Files of old is back and I think they've selected a good variety of episodes that reflect what the show is all about. Giving Mulder and Scully a kid way back was a mistake though and it's getting in the way. And I don't have any concerns about whether or not we'll see more seasons. The show is popular, it came back from the dead more than once and we're in an age where several other old properties keep coming back. Did anyone really think this was it? Hopefully we'll get more than 6 episodes next time, unless someone decides that 6 is a good number after this season..

It seemed too much of a parody to me. It had its moments but in the end I was like "Meh..." The plot twist of the monster being turned into a human instead of vice versa was very clever, I would have liked it if they explored it a bit more. It felt hasty to me because of the long almost-monologue of the monster at the cemetery, I would like it better if Mulder and Scully were more active.

That being said, I enjoyed the goofy-tone, especially Scully's face while listening to Mulder at the hotel.

Agreed. I enjoyed some aspects of the story, but the overall feel seemed a bit too goofy and over the top for me.

Honestly, I'm not expecting much closure or resolution. When has X-Files ever offered closure or resolution? It's always been great with set-up, but lousy with payoff.

I liked the way they wrapped up the Samantha storyline. They shouldn't have dragged it out as long as they did, but it was a good story.

Hulu leaked the 5th X-Files episode, "Babylon," last night -- three days before it was scheduled to premiere on Fox. After a few hours of being available, it has since been removed from the site.

We finally caught up last night, watching episodes 3 and 4.

The monster episode was amusing in a nostalgic kind of way. I think if that story aired during the original run, it would have been seen as a lot worse. Mulder rambling on in the motel room was great, and the "sex scene" in the cell phone store was hilarious. Nice nod to Kim Manners too,.

The 4th episode, the Garbage Golem, had some pretty righteous violence. Jerks getting their comeuppance is always nice to see. The whole thing with Scully and her family seems to be propelling us forward to seeing their son.

The biggest revelation of the night was the preview, which definitely said "One more episode until the Season Finale." I read a story online about how Anderson isn't really interested in filming the series full-time again (she lives in London, they film in Vancouver). But maybe once a year they could drop a mini-series like this on us.

Here's hoping.
