sf/f TV development news - 2016

I think I heard that one of the creators behind Riverdale is also one of the creators behind the new, much-acclaimed take on the Archie comics, much like the DC and Marvel TV shows have comics creators working on them.

None of these pilot ideas really sound all that interesting to me, though. The Mars one could be okay if they go for a scientifically grounded approach like The Martian, but that may be too much to hope for.
 
The Mars one and. Transylvania sound the most interesting to me. Transylvania sounds like it could be a network TV version of Penny Dreadful.
The Mars show is something we haven't seen much on TV.
Frequency has potential, I like timey-wimey stuff like that and I really enjoyed the movie.
I'm not familiar with Archie comic so I'm rather indifferent towards Riverdale, the only thing that has my attention is the creators.
 
It seems like Riverdale has been floating around, network to network, for years now.

The Transylvania show does sound much like Penny Dreadful. Still, could be an interesting spin on that idea.

I can see the Frequency concept getting old real fast as a series. But, if it gets Jeremy Carver to relinquish his showrunner duties on Supernatural, I'm all for it. If Supernatural receives another season, a fresh voice needs to head it up.
 
That's true, the Archie people have done some interesting stuff, like the Afterlife books (I never heard of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina-- I might have to look for that), but this CW take looks far from interesting-- it looks like generic CW crap.

At first I was surprised to see a female detective as the lead character in a show that's reportedly set in the 1880s. But then I checked -- turns out that the first female Pinkerton detective, Kate Warne, began her career in 1857. And the mid to late 1880s are when Nellie Bly made her name as an intrepid reporter and adventurer (and I can't believe nobody's based a TV series on Nellie Bly yet, although she'd had a smattering of movies and novels based on her).
 
Lots of interesting news there.
Braindead sounds like it could fun, and Shaloub's casting definitely helps.
Transylvania sounds like it could be interesting.
Lail and Mitchell's casting on Dead of Summer has put that on my radar now.

Arrghhh.... I can't get over how stupid that name is. The original character was first name Abraham, last name Van Helsing -- not first name Van, last name Helsing. "Vanessa Helsing" is a totally idiotic way of feminizing it. At least Wynonna Earp (the comic and upcoming Syfy series) makes sense as a name.
 
I liked her on Tomorrow People, and Flash so I'm glad to see her get a new regular gig. Not really familiar with any of the other actresses mentioned in the other posts.
 
Vanessa Hudgens, too. I wonder if any superheroes will actually make an appearance, or if all that stuff will happen off screen.
