^ Interesting but questionable. Remember the guy making the fake communicators? They looked old, beat up and authentic but they were fakes. I'm sure a nacelle cap is much easier to reproduce. Not saying this one isn't one of the real ones but I wouldn't put up any money for it unless I was somehow convinced of its authenticity.

How easily people are parted from their money... You could box up some air and claim it possibly could have passed through Gene Roddenberry's nostrils 50 years ago and someone would buy it.

No question that is the real thing. It comes from the daughter of the man who originally made the Enterprise miniature; Richard Datin. He cut off the two nacelle ends to add the lighting effect after the pilot episodes were filmed and kept these two pieces. These items are well documented and a fantastic piece history. I'd say the new owner got a deal!

When were the spikes cut off? I recall the Enterprise still had them in WNMHGB (in certain shots), then it had the translucent domes with the lighting effects and no spikes. But there was no intermediary with the wooden domes with no lighting effects and no spikes.

The three foot model still had spikes during this post-pilots pre-series publicity photo shoot.
