Chris Evans is the new Top Gear presenter. No Clarkson, May, or Hammond

BBC News

Evans said he was "thrilled" to get the job, describing the motoring show as his "favourite programme of all time".
"I promise I will do everything I possibly can to respect what has gone on before and take the show forward," he added.
Clarkson was dropped in March after punching a producer while on location.
Car enthusiast Evans, who has signed a three-year deal with the BBC Two show, had been tipped to replace Clarkson but had previously insisted he was not interested.
The BBC's David Sillito said the all-new line-up meant Clarkson's co-hosts Richard Hammond and James May would not be involved.
He said while Chris Evans was a household name, Clarkson had a long-running association with Top Gear and his were big shoes to fill.
Top Gear is watched by some 350 million viewers worldwide and is one of the BBC's biggest shows, with overseas sales worth an estimated £50m a year.

Production on the new series of Top Gear will start in the next few weeks and more information will be announced in due course.
Jeremy Clarkson was suspended, then dropped, by the BBC in March following a "fracas" with a producer at a hotel.
His final appearance on Top Gear will be shown on 28 June. The episode will be made up of two films shot before Clarkson was suspended, with Hammond and May presenting links from the studio.

When did he officially get it because last Fridays TFI Friday seemed like one long gratuitous audition for the Top Gear job. Spoiled the show entirely for me.

So let me get this straight, no Hammond May or Clarkson but we get Chris Evans. Just him? All by himself? Won't he be lonely, or are we going to see a lot more guests on the show?

My interest in watching just dropped 90%.

IMO they should have got James Martin- experienced presenter, petrolhead, gruff Yorkshire type but non-controversial.

While I did enjoy Evans past work on 'Don't Forget your Toothbrush' and 'TFI Friday' it's just not the same without the 3 idiots and therefore won't be watching. Chris is a suitable car show presenter but it won't be the car show I want to watch.

So the stuff about Phil Glenister and those two others being lined up was just rubbish.

Well Glenister is probably a no/no now (though I guess there's no reason you couldn't have both come to think of it) but I'd imagine the other two might still be in the frame (assuming you mean Jodie Kidd and Guy Martin?)

I like Evans, and given I was never a religious watcher of the show anyway I'll give it a shot when it comes back.

According to the article, Evans will be the lead in a "new lineup." If production is to begin in "a few weeks," we should hear about the others in the new gang before then.

He hosted the compilation called Top Gear: The Races, and honestly thought that was to appeal to the American market, because other than that, he wasn't all that great at it and rather bland. Maybe that's to offset the apparently wild behavior of this Evans fellow.

Because you know what I think when I'm watching a British show hosted by Brits produced by the British Broadcasting Corporation?

"Needs more Americans."

Well, Doctor Who could at least employ researchers who know something about America when they set scenes here.

Never mind - I guess then American TV writers would have to give a fuck about what the rest of the world is like, in return.

Matt has been in a series called Episodes filmed partly in the UK and broadcast (among other places) on BBC2.
He might be better known in the U.K. than here nowadays.

Yep, exactly. Actually the effect of seeing him host made me do a double-take. I mean, OK, it was just a compilation show and it shouldn't matter more than that, a fan and car buff presenting a famous show, but now that it's been announced he's a new host, it's like it was a screen test of sorts. I hadn't realized that it was filmed recently until the last line he utters, which is akin to "Who knows what the future holds for Top Gear?" It was like a wink and a nudge and a fairly obvious one looking back on it. He seemed trying overly hard to fit in.
