Star Trek Will Be Removed From Amazon Prime... Netflix Next?

FYI if your patient you can get TOS, TNG, ENT blu rays for pretty reasonable prices via the European amazon sites. They are priced in the USA between $20-$70 per season. I bought either single seasons, or box sets of completes series, for an average of $12 per season. They look much better than the streaming versions, and are packed full of special features. I set up some Star trek alerts on slick deals, and have completed m star trek blu ray collection. Hope someday they give DS9 and VOY the same great blu ray treatment, but not looking likely.

I was able to get the UK Enterprise complete series on Blu-ray via Amazon for $120.

I was watching TNG this weekend on Netflix and the first thing that appeared when I started the episode was "This title is available until March 1st". Looks like Netflix Canada is getting rid of it's only Star Trek show. But we don't have CBS All Access so not sure it's related to that.

Looks like I'll be watching as much as I can for the next month.

I have used Netflix since 09 shows come and go until the go Playon. I just joined prime, like many I doubt I will buy a all access pass, mainly because CBS is an over the air network, If they put it on cable channel I might be more accepting, and let's face it if it fails they may rethink both all access and broadcasting trek

FYI, Amazon has apparantly reached a renewal deal for the 5 Trek shows, and the expire notices have been removed.

I have most of the shows on DVD aside from TOS and ENT, and I've been rebuying TNG on bluray, but I would still be a lil upset if Netflix removes the show. It's more convenient for me when I'm in bed to just pick an episode vs look through the different cases and pick a disc with a few episodes I want.

But I could see CBS waiting for the license to expire and then only offering the shows through their on-demand service. Makes sense. Then they have control over distribution of that content. I could see them even selling DS9 and VOY by individual episode eventually. (similar to how some shows are sold for like 1.99 on demand) That way once fans are starved for DS9 and VOY and they can't get it anywhere else (legally), then maybe they will be inclined enough to give the blu-ray treatment to DS9 and VOY. Build up a demand by choking off the supply...... (Disclaimer: This is a complete crack-pot idea I have and is in no way representative of any fact of true goings-on behind the scenes at CBS)

Not legally they can't, and if you're going to go illegal might as well go the whole hog.
What in the world are you talking about? (Here in the US, anyway: ) We have a legal right to create backups for personal use - it's the same right that allows us to rip CDs to listen to on portable file players. If we were talking about getting those files from someplace other than personal backups of discs we own, only then would it be legally problematical.

Has the DMCA been repealed? Used to be that you couldn't bypass copy protection which is in every commercial dvd and blue ray.

As far as I can find, it hasn't made it to being actually decided by the Supremes, but a 5th Circuit Federal Judge dismissed a DMCA case in 2010, and wrote in his decision that the DMCA could not supercede Fair Use. So, tentatively, what I said was correct.
