The Colony - USA Network

Well, they refer to "The Arrival" constantly, and they're hidden overlords are using advanced technology for incomprehensible reasons. Sometimes you don't have to use the word for it to be obvious what something is.

Or what, does the Walking Dead not feature zombies, too?
And the arrival was quick enough to strand Beau in LA after he went there for a day trip to get tacos.

So Will Bowman solves two cases in two days and the resistance is freaked out at his efficiency? If the resistance was really expecting the red hats to take a year to get that far, maybe they should be taking a serious look at themselves first. :D

The reason Will agrees to take the job is that their son is trapped in the Santa Monica bloc. Another sign of how quickly the lock down happened.

I'm really enjoying this series! I didn't expect to like it that much, but I'm pleasantly surprised. The characters are great and seeing how they react to being occupied is fascinating. Occupied LA is fascinating too. This series has a great visual style as well.

I do think that we must see the invaders (whoever or whatever they are) at some point. If became only about our side of things, it will get old after awhile. We need to see what the other side is up to at some point. Sure, maintain the idea that the invaders don't show themselves for awhile to build up the mystery, but reveal them at some important point.

It's the only descriptor that fits. They don't use jets, they don't use propellers, they don't even have wings; they just float around. As for the age, the rust-like deterioration is a big indicator.

Oh, and they also have uberpowerful particle beam weapons of some sort. But let me guess, that's typical tech levels for a modern day setting, too?
OK, finally watched the new episode. And yeah, the reveal of the energy weapons definitely lean things toward 'not of this earth". Still not getting your argument on the aging thing though. Lots of manmade devices rust. Why does it have to be "ancient" if it shows some rust?

Anyway, moving on to other aspects. I find it interesting that the girl said there was "no one" outside the wall.

I said they looked really old, not ancient. And when you see something that rusted on a TV series, it's code for "really old." Hell, in Shannara, they have cars, satellite dishes, and other such things that are at least a thousand years old that are only slightly more rusted than those drones. Also, the particle weapons were shown in previous episodes.

The drones do look pretty old. They look like some kind of 50's drone that has been sitting around for a while and then dusted off for use. They look more practical than sci-fi.

Good news, Colony has been renewed for a second season.

I've enjoyed the first 3 episodes so far. Decent storytelling and some pretty thoughtful gray areas that the characters are dealing with.

On the subject of "aliens? or something else?", now that we have a second season, there's every chance we won't even see them until the final scene of season 1. If even then.

Well that was quite a twist at the end of last night's episode. A significant change for the character, and this is now a show full of all sorts of double agents and characters with uncertain loyalties.

And then they flushed it all down the toilet 10 seconds later.

Why did they do that?

At least they gave us an interesting little tidbit as we overheard part of a mysterious phone call that even mentioned the perception of time.

Well, this was unexpected.

I began to like Phyllis and now they do this. I liked the way she took the "news" and her plea to not ignore her husband.

As for the rest of the characters, I am still waiting for something to click with them.

And I am also curious about that perception of time tidbit, and good news about a second season, thus it will not be a waste to invest more into the characters.

Now onto Lucky Man. Heard good things about it. And James Nesbitt.

Really enjoyed the last two episodes after not liking the first two at all. I'm definitely going to stick with the show for the rest of the season.

Phyllis was a stand out actor in a sea of fairly bland folk. This last ep though was very good, nice little pace it's got going there. I'm thinking this may end up like Alias with big twists every episode, hopefully with more planning.

And yeah, nice hint.

Can someone explain to me what exactly the green zone is?

Seems like where all the people with influence or money/rich, or part of the new government get to stay?

Out of all the characters, I found Phyllis so much more interesting then everyone else. Oh well.

For a moment I thought Phyllis was going to reveal to Katie that she was Geronimo but that Katie's group had totally bastardized her message.

I watched all 4 episodes tonight and to be honest, im kinda bored. If this show is really just about the family drama and less about whom the aliens are and what they are doing then im done. If i wanted to watch family drama there are many shows i can watch. I want my alien scifi and looks like i wont get it from this show.

So, tell me more about the Arrival, and whoever these Hosts are. And the Factory.

Apparently Snyder can leave the Block and report to one of his superiors at some sort of standard-looking capitol or office building. We heard something about New York this week, as if that's where the bosses are. We also heard a conspiracy theory that this is some sort of coup that some powerful people and parts of the government have been planning for some time.

Apparently Snyder's immediate superior lives just a few miles outside of the wall on the California coast? Did I interpret that scene correctly?

I'm finding it hard to believe that humans did this. They couldn't have built those walls so quickly and easily. At least not modern day humans.

We've had the theory that they're all in the future, just locked inside the bubble of the Los Angeles block, but now that we've seen outside the walls a few times, that doesn't seem to be the case. It doesn't look like the future. The theory that the Hosts are humans from the future still seems possible. They would have the capability to use all those drones and make the wall. Maybe the earth is so screwed up in the future, that the only place the future humans could escape to was the past, and they decided to try to change the past along the way, so humanity wouldn't screw up the earth so much anymore.

The satellite phones are obviously a hint. Perhaps a hint that everything we've been told is true after all. I kind of like not knowing for sure. It kind of puts us in the same shoes as Will and Katie, where we're just not quite sure about which side is right and which side is wrong. How much of what Snyder told Katie this week was true? All of it? None of it? And was Snyder initially taking Will to meet that yoga lady who's his superior?
