Make Planet of the Titans instead

After escaping the worm hole effect, have Ilia stop bouncing up and down in her chair.

I'd take Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, and rename it Star Trek: The Motion Picture.

Philip Kaufman's Planet of the Titans could have been cool too, though.

    Marsden is very sad.
    I'd not change too much.

Keep the Klingon scene and the station monitoring, have them call the recently refitted Enterprise out on duty with Kirk commanding and Spock as first officer and Bones CMO and they intercept because they are the closest Starship.

Even though there some nice character moments in the reuniting scenes, I don't think they are worth the detours and lack plot progress. Yes, even Spock's Kohlinar doesn't really forward the plot to me, he can still understand and feel exactly the same way as the Mr. Spock we knew from TOS and TAS. Bones being gone and drafted is really cute but totally unnecessary. Kirk's whole trying to get his command back is my second least favorite part of any of the movies, not just this one. And my alteration would totally get rid of that ridiculous transporter accident scene, which is my vote for worst scene in any of the movies. WTF were they thinking having that in a G movie? And since when do you need one transporter to transport someone, never is the answer, before or since. It's pointless and gratuitous.

Keep Decker as second officer, even keep Kirk's not total knowledge of the refit with Decker interceding, even keep what happens to Ilia and Decker at the end. I would have like just a bit of interaction from the new life form with Kirk and the crew before it just disappeared, as it was it seemed like it was destroyed

Not sure it needs a remake, just judicious editing.

The problem, as always, is cutting the spectacular music.

Agree. J.J. Abrams ST 2009 and STID proved TOS uniforms can still work.

I could see just tweaking the uniforms particularly in terms of colour and ditching the one-piece versions.

The writing could have used a touch of editing. In particular I'm thinking of rewriting a. line of Kirk's to establish they had had another 5-year mission after what we had seen in TOS. That would have helped address the obvious age discrepency of the characters between TOS and TMP.

But the biggest thing would be to inject more character drama and cut back on some of the extended visuals, particular the Vger fly-through scenes.

The MPAA ratings system was different in the '70s. That was back when the G rating was still actually aimed toward "general audiences" (including grown-ups) and not automatically at children like today.

The original "Andromeda Strain" was also rated G, and there's some intense stuff in that movie, too, such as dead bodies, powdered blood pouring out of a wound, partial nudity, profanity, animals going into convulsions and dying... nothing that would ever, ever appear in a G-rated movie nowadays.

The Star Wars trilogy movies were rated PG by the MPAA, not G.

This is a tricky one as I've always loved this film. More shots of the foxy refit big E would do me nicely :)

Sure but I would change those as well, I know its a homage to TOS but it stretches credibility in the 21st century.

I'd have Ilia returned as an android/human lifeform. I'd probably keep Decker around too.

Apart from that I'd not change a damned thing - it's fantastic !

TWOK, I hate the TOS uniforms they look like pjs on the men and bunny girl outfits on the women. Nothing professional about em.

    TMP uniforms are great.

Mind you, I'm glad I don't have to wear one...
